Thank you for sharing this. Jani’s passing hurts on so many levels. I grew up in the 80’s listening to Warrant and was captivated by Jani’s songwriting and stage presence instantly. I too was a chronic alcoholic drinking daily just to get going in the morning. I nearly died several times. By the grace of God I was able to get sober back in 1996 and haven’t drank since. I know the pain and isolation Jani must have been experiencing. I wish so much I could have met him during his life just to let him know there is a way out with the help of other alcoholics. Thank you again for these wonderful photos. Jani was a beautiful soul. His death hurts me to this day.

Thank you for reading my comment Sheila! These photos really hit home for me. I have a ten year old daughter who already loves Warrant and music of the 80's. We've been to several big concerts together including Guns n Roses and Stevie Nicks. I told her about Jani and explained to her I had the same problems with alcohol before she was born. We listened to Maddie's beautiful version of Heaven and my daughter nearly burst into tears making me promise I'll never leave her. I thank God everyday she's never seen me drunk. I haven't had a drink in 22 years but I will never forget the feelings of despair and how many times it nearly cost me my life. I never knew him, but Jani and his music will be a part of me and my family forever. Wherever his beautiful soul is I hope he knows he's still having a positive impact on this world. Thank you for keeping his memory alive!

Thomas B Thanks for sharing. I happy to hear that you’re still sober and enjoying your family. Jani loved life and his loved ones more then anything. He fought his addictions vigorously. Unfortunately he lost the battle. It’s not as black and white as that. No ones story is. Stay strong! In this song. He says, “ I took my strength for granted.” He is truly speaking about his addiction. I miss him everyday and probably always will. Prayers and love to you

    • @califtom

I'm touched you wrote to me Sheila it really means alot. I feel fortunate for the life I do have despite emotional demons that still haunt me. You are absolutely correct, nobody's addiction story is black and white. We have underlying issues that booze is a symptom of. Its hard, if not impossible to ever recover without dealing with them on some level. His song "Comfortable With Sad" from the Jabberwocky sessions touches on this and I can seriously relate. Jani clearly wore his heart on his sleeve. The genuine affection he had for his loved ones and fans shines through every time he's seen on film. I just hope he knew how much he was loved by so many of us. As I said I never knew Jani, but I very much know that guy in the grips of an obsession who wants to stop but can't. Every time I relapsed before getting sober for good I also took my strength for granted. It wasn't until a friend in recovery told me alcohol is "cunning, baffling and powerful" that I knew I could never take even a day's sobriety for granted. This song he wrote for you is such a beautiful gift you will always have. I miss him too despite never knowing him but he's alive in my heart. Prayers and love to you and your family too. Thank you for making me feel connected to him in some small way.

I stumbled across this video today. As I sat in my office watching and listening I started to cry. I miss Jani. He was my favorite song writer and performer. I can't imagine how much you miss him as a husband, father, brother, etc. Thank you for giving us a glimpse inside his private life. I don't know how you make it through each day without him.

The soccer photos fit Victoria's post she posted after Jani passed. And then to find Liesa (spelling) was there for you with her and my connection. I am for sure they both are watching over all of you. Love from me to you, Scott

Damn Jani your music ment so much to your fans. If youd reached out your hand for help we'd still have you in this world. My future prediction for you is after you got clean and clear of your demons. The next twenty years of your life would have been spent writting number one songs for your self and for other A list artists. I predict that you would have written sucessful screen plays and seen them turned into movies. Your autobiography would have been eagerly awaited by your fans. Damn Jani your fans miss you so much. RIP Jani Lane the Song & Dance Man.

he was at the age that many men finally stop drinking, me as well..if he had survived that last bout it mightve been the one to make him quit; he wouldve hit bottom like they say. I barely survived my last time drinking, it couldve gone either way, I was 46...I dont drink cause I can never risk going thru that again, it was 8 yrs ago.

Love Jani Lane. RIP. You're the best. Great video. Thank you for sharing. Amazing to see his family life. I played Fuseball against Jani one night at The Button South in Hallandale, FL I believe it was 1990. They had just played at Summers on the Beach in Ft Laud. Cherry Pie just came out. I couldn't get in for some reason. I was 20. But I got into the Button and they came to party there after. Jani kicked my ass at fuseball. It was over before I knew what happened. He probably played alot on the road. Loved this band Warrant. Seen him many times. Always great. I was blown away when he passed. Way to young. He should've had a long live ahead of him. So talented. I wish I would've known him. I feel like I did. I'm sure all his fans felt that way.

I was blessed to be a friend of Jani's for 17 years, before he passed. I was invited to the service in Malibu and the Memorial Concert at The Whisky. I think of him (as with all the others) every day. I STILL get emotional (with no apologies) every time I go down the Jani rabbit hole.
Salt Water is devastatingly beautiful. So f-ing talented, he should still be here!
I will see him down the line in the after!
