46:50 So, terrifying and fun fact: there's a deleted scene where they find pieces of Godzilla's blood scattered around the city which started developing eyes and organs. We know thanks to extra information in interviews and art pieces from the director of the film that this version of the character is possibly unkillable and the most powerful so far, because according to him Godzilla would "evolve until he could move to other planets, other solar systems, and even reach a point where he would become/absorb the entire universe, while suffering the entire time." All of this sounds odd until you realize the person in charge of this movie is also the one who came up with Neon Genesis Evangelion.
@@BlackStar_eclipse Also after Shin Toho made Void Ghidorah who is a 4D being of pure energy living outside of the universe and the Godzilla Ultima who is a super deity that lives outside of the universe and just projects his avatar into the universe while slowly collapsing it. So it's not even that out there for the Godzilla franchise.
@@jankieek8218 I think the odd part isn't so much how powerful it is, but the way in which its power is presented to us. It isn't in a regular dragon ball/comic book fashion, where he's simply capable of blowing up planets and that's it; suffering and body horror (his body slowly consuming everything) is specifically pointed out to be a feature, and it is something the creature itself cannot control or stop. Shin Godzilla is doomed to an eternal existence of suffering. That, to me, is the dead giveaway that Hideaki Anno was behind the concept for this version.
@@jankieek8218 Godzilla Ultima is such a terrifying being. The fact he exists in all plains of existence including possibly other peoples imaginations is terrifying.
That ending was very chilling and even terrifying. They don't know how lucky they are to stop Shin Godzilla before he reached his next evolution. Every one his evolutions were in response to the danger he was in and Shin realized that the greatest threat to him were humans. So in response, he almost made humanoid godzilla's.

I really hope they watch Godzilla Minus One when it releases on streaming or blu ray. I would say between the OG '54 movie, this one, and Minus One, they are the 3 best Godzilla movies. This movie's strength is in theme and cinematography, plus a really terrifying Godzilla, but it's weakest point IMO is the characters and any emotional investment. There were a couple moments where you could really feel something, mostly revolving around the nuclear bomb discussions, but most of the time the characters are standing in for political satire. Minus One solves that problem completely, with not only the best human story in any Godzilla movie ever, but one of the best and most emotional stories in any movie for the last few years.
Godzilla can mean different things to different people. And there’s so many different designs of him. His movies are separated by Japanese emperor eras. It’s really up to the viewer on what they prefer. For me, I think Gojira 1954 and Minus One 2023 are the two greatest Godzilla movies ever made. I think 2023 takes the cake as it’s basically a modern reboot of 1954. But my favorite might be MV because I find it to be more fun and even silly. I currently own two Godzilla toys. One is G89 by Art Spirits. The other is Hiya G21 V2. I was NOT a fan of MV Godzilla’s design early on but it grew on me and I now rank it 1st or 2nd for best Godzilla designs ever. While I probably rank G23 about 3rd. When I first saw Godzilla vs. Kong on my phone about 3 years ago, I didn’t watch it for the humans. A very realistic and emotional reaction finding out how 56 years had just passed and not 57 days. Monarch finally improved the human element from MonsterVerse. Yep, some of the unused concept arts for Shin were even used in the final evangelion movie, which, if i remember correctly, some of them even include Godzilla shedding his dinosaur-like skin and transforming into a seemingly perfect humanoid being deemed to eventually bring judgment upon humanity, possibly for crimes mostly involving the destruction of mother nature. The tiny godzilla things on its tails were then supposedly meant to be its "angels".
The tsunami that occured during the Fukushima meltdown saw canals flooded with boats that is recreated in a way here. And it just echoes the horrors of reality on top of Godzilla. Such a beautiful movie that deserves all the accolades it earned from japan and the world. Which makes me excited for Godzilla Minus One having a chance because I love these two movies. I love godzilla
Hideaki Anno, the director of Shin Godzilla, also did Evangelion, and supposedly after the human form he had 2-3 more forms ending in him either being a literal universe or ending up being this biblically accurate angel/god. Rumors are kinda caught between the two because Toho barred any of that information from leaking out because they didn’t think it fit Godzilla
An obscure but important detail is Chisso-Minamata Disease which was caused by dumping into a lake and poisoning the life in it, which spread to the people who ate them. That incident and the location inspired *_Nausicaä_* which is the film that established Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli and Anno's Studio Gainax. There are a LOT of similarities in the appearance of Shin Godzilla's design and the issues from that disease, as it's another massive post-war tragedy tied to Japan's modernization and struggled with corporate bureaucracy. That's a big part of why, _"Who Will Know?"_ has the lyrics that it does when the attack on Tokyo takes place. In addition to the Fukushima Daiichi disaster, and the history of nuclear tragedy, this is a less well-known historical element that carries a HUGE amount of weight to the film's core issues.
It's so nice seeing Shin Godzilla getting more and more attention from these reaction channels lately. They're gonna go nuts when Minus One becomes available.
I haven't gotten to see that yet, and it's hard to look shit up without spoilers - please let me know just one thing, is it the remake of the original that it seems to be? 'Cause I hope it is, but I won't turn it down if I'm wrong.
@@Geth-Who I wouldn’t exactly call Godzilla Minus One a remake, and I wouldn’t say it’s trying to be one, but it absolutely knows and honors Toho’s past with the franchise, and it’s probably closer to the original film than any others, in a lot of ways. There are a lot of homages in it. There’s also a lot of things that are just core to what Godzilla is about that you will recognize. True fans of the franchise will be absolutely thrilled seeing it for the first time. This isn’t some Hollywood film that wears a beloved IP as a skin suit to make a half-assed remake/reimagining/deconstruction/subversion to try and trick audiences with memberberries to part them with their hard-earned money and score some DEI points with the activist bankers. This is a Japanese studio simply adding another great film to its beloved franchise in a way that enhances and strengthens the IP. Godzilla Minus One is (the start of?) a new continuity, starting in the year 1945. It requires no knowledge of prior Godzilla films to understand and enjoy. But I do think knowing the franchise well will make for an even better time. It would also help to know the absolute basics of WW2 where Japan is concerned, but it’s easy to pick up on everything anyway in the story. There isn’t a ton of dialogue, a lot is told through visuals and the performances. I think it could have been a silent film and still be brilliant, especially with the amazing score playing over the near flawless cinematography. I watched it nine times in theater, by the way, the last two times in black and white. It’s a masterpiece.
I think I’ve heard from other podcasts (not saying it’s automatically fact) that “Shin” it was intended as “New” since this was a new iteration of Godzilla, or that it was constantly evolving into a “New” form. I actually didn’t know it also meant “God” which is cool, though I doubt the filmmakers went for “God Godzilla”
Add to the above words. 深(Deep,Abyss) 芯(Core) 進(Evolution) 審(Judgment) These are also pronounced ''Shin''. The Japanese language has many homonyms, so kanji are used to distinguish meaning. However, in the case of ''shin godzilla'', the word ''シン(shin)'' is written in katakana to make it ambiguous. This is done intentionally by the producer to give Japanese viewers a sense of compound meaning. And since everyone has their own interpretation of 'shin', there is no problem with putting the English 'sin' there.
@@JayRodriguez31Japanese is alot more complex than that. Gojira is the mixture of the word Gorilla and Kujira which is the Japanese word for whale so Godzilla isn't really the proper translation for Gojira as it's not a word but a mixture of different words.
Cool thing to note during the first atomic breath scene is that Godzilla is actually in pain. It’s meant to evoke him in pain bent over basically vomiting out his excess radiation. And if you look closely the corners of his mouth is actually burning off as he fires the atomic breath. As his body is constantly changing and evolving he’s constantly in agony. Another thing is the song. "Who will know” is supposed to be the voice of Godzilla and the female voice is his constant pain and the male voice is his urge to keep going and fight on. Absolutely phenomenal and one of my favorite Godzilla moments ever as a lifelong Godzilla fan
What a fun movie. Loved the political and social commentary/satire as well as the poignant discussion of the nuclear weapons. And one creepy ass Godzilla that will be etched in my mind forever.
My interpretation of the ending is Godzilla was in the process of evolving into the next ultimate creature and that is humanoid creatures showing if humans work together we can defeat any unstoppable obstacle
40:00 this is actually my favorite part of this movie. There IS no "reason". Just as you cannot argue or negotiate with a tsunami, tornado or earthquake, you cannot have an explanation behind 'why'. Cuz there isn't any. Tornadoes form on the whims of the atmosphere, a tsunami is a response to massive upheaval, and Godzilla arrives on Japan soil...because. It was meant to be. To borrow a line from another incredible movie, Nope: "What's a bad miracle?" And that's Godzilla's entire existence.
I liked that it was just following the basic driving force of every living thing: to live. It wasn't attacking in retaliation for the nuclear waste, it just evolved that way to SURVIVE the nuclear waste, then to survive being bombed, etc. There was no intent behind it, good or bad.
I think it’s a great detail that when godzilla first comes ashore crawling through the canal and then crawling through the streets that the imagery was straight from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, even down to the guy running down the street away from the boats.
34:25 “there’s no way he released Godzilla right? Like fine we’ll release him and THEN they’ll have to do something!” This was so hilarious because the most widely accepted thoery is that this is EXACTLY what Goro Maki did.
* Godzilla is the leaky nuclear reactor at Fukushima, given legs. * The scenes of destruction at the beginning were very similar to scenes of the Fukushima tsunami aftermath. * Interesting the mention of anime pacing and comparing Godzilla to a Titan. Supervising director Hideaki Anno directed Neon Genesis Evangelion with a very similar pace and visual style (and even reused some of the music), and director Shinji Higuchi directed the live-action Attack on Titan movies. * When the Prime Minister opens a cabinet to reveal a dry-cleaned, neatly-pressed work jacket, that got a laugh out of me. During the Fukushima disaster, you often saw bureaucrats on TV in those jackets, as if to suggest they were right in the middle of things supervising. * The song that plays during the atomic breath scene is in English, though it's hard to tell in the movie. The lyrics are on-line, and worth looking up. The title is "Who Will Know? (tragedy)" * There's an art book that contains images of additional mutations for Godzilla -- he wouldn't have stopped mutating until he'd destroyed the earth, spread out into space, and eventually consumed the entire universe. With little clones about to start popping off his tail, they stopped him at pretty much the last moment he could have ever been stopped. * The movie ends with Japan stuck with Godzilla, just as the real Japan is stuck with nuclear power. They can't get rid of it, so it just has to be carefully monitored and managed so it doesn't get out of control again. * While the movie can be critical of excess bureaucracy and the oft one-sided relationship between Japan and the US, it's not anti-government or anti-US. The strategy that finally stops Godzilla is only made possible by cooperation between Japan and several other countries, including the US, which provided the drone swarms that got Godzilla to waste his beam energy. I think it has an optimistic vision for Japan's place in the world going forward -- not as a recluse, not as a lackey, but as a player on the world stage.
Undoubtedly they will react to it, maybe not right when it releases, but they will watch it at some point. Unless Aaron turns evil and destroys the world, but I estimate a 70-30 chance against that happening, as long as Eric wins.
@@Mrs.Garrison69Aaron would give up as soon as the first ballistic needle is shown, so it will be a short battle. Eric will stand victorious in the wind with his Greek pantheon beard in profile. Only for Calvin to sneak up attempting to shiv him with his knife, that grinch like grin plastered on his face. Luckily Rick shows up from a red mist gives Calvin a swift kick to his ankle and he crumbles to the ground defeated utterly. Such is the epic tale of the Blind Wave Skirmish.
I’ve never clicked on a Blind Wave video so fast. I love Shin Goji. Even after Minus One, I think Shin is still my number one. I love the mad scramble of Japan just trying to deal with this creature existing.
I do love that Anno has made a career of deconstructing Japanese pop-genres. He started with picking apart Mecha shows with Evangelion, but this movie started an explicit series of “Shin” (“True”) versions of famous universes that take long, brutal and dark looks at different pop-cultural figures. First with Godzilla, then with Ultraman, and the latest version was Shin Kamen Rider. My hope is that we can eventually get Shin Gundam.
@@ravenfrancis1476 Actually! So was Shin Ultraman. It was long, brutal, and dark; but it was optimistic since dangerous phenomenons can resolved diplomatically nor use absolute brute force. It's placed huge emphasis on communication and why it's a foundation for the Power of Friendships, even with harsh dialogue and clash of personalities. This what Shin Gundam should explore further through.
What’s great about this version of Godzilla is that he’s not an ancient alpha predator, he’s a mutant. He’s an unnatural force of destruction. But what I really love about this movie is that they it shows a very believable scenario of how world governments would react to Godzilla and how they would work through all the bureaucratic BS to come together and take out that monster. Also I love that they took him out in such a unique way.
This is my favorite era of Blindwave. I’m so happy that after 20 years of loving Godzilla he’s become mainstream enough that he gets reactions and attention
I relate to Jake extremely hard. I've seen every godzilla movie and series. I've learned about every behind the scenes production, read the comics etc. So whenever my friends bring up godzilla I have to sit back and hold in me trying to take over the convo lol! "It's like your guys star wars" puts it perfectly haha
also after hearing how Aaron gets very antsy about seeing godzilla on screen, i was excited to see him find out how this movie especially handles godzilla screentime lol!!
It went with the idea of it being an ancient fish, it started as "primitive" in form. I also saw it as a meta reference to how Godzilla evolved from dude in a rubber suit all the way to now cgi.
This is not just a monster movie, it is a horror movie and also a fictional science movie (not sci-fi), it has it all. Minus One might be the novelty right now, but this grounded, realistic take on Godzilla is a delight to watch. BTW yeah, this movie was released in 2016, that was also the year I started following Blind Wave, after the Civil War trailer #2, oh man, time flips like a coin, it goes full circle. Glad to be still here. Godspeed Blind Wave. Take care and control. Cheers.
Godzilla movies are often found in the horror section but I have never been able to place these movies in the genre. Shin is the closest to a horror movie that they have gotten. Maybe that's why it's my favorite Godzilla movie...?
I'm so SO glad you guys reacted to this movie! This is my favorite Gidzilla movie for its amazing GZ design, cinematography, but also because the story is about how actual governments react and work in this kind of scenario. Withot having one main character. A stellar movie all around.
Besides the fact that this Godzilla is absolutely terrifying and truly apocalyptic, I loved how this movie approached everything from a government/office perspective. So many shots like POV of a chair being rushed across a room just really immersed you in the premise of a country desperately trying to come together in spite of itself to solve an unprecedented problem.
This is the most terrifying Godzilla ever put to screen, and that’s fully solidified in the original ideas that the filmmakers didn’t get to translate to screen. Not only was Godzilla going to grow smaller Godzillas to counter humanity as a whole, Godzilla himself would have eventually evolved to essentially a god. Concept art for the movie shows an unsettlingly feminine design to this godly form, which makes it as if Mother Nature herself is punishing humanity for their ignorance and hubris.
Thank you for appreciating Shin Godzilla. This film is inspired by the unforgettable 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake for the Japanese people. The scene of Godzilla coming ashore by moving against the river’s flow and the following ruins evoke memories of the tsunami. The film also captures various aspects of the Japanese experience, including the nuclear disaster, bureaucratic response, and public protests. It’s a piece that holds a special place in my heart.
I know this is prolly for you guys to prepare for the Godzilla Minus One film and other Godzilla stuff but I hope you guys get to react to Shin Kamen Rider and Shin Ultraman too. Those are really good films as well and are also remakes/adaptations of their OG versions much like Shin Godzilla was
Full discretion I haven’t finished the video yet, but I just had to add that the song that plays during the first atomic breath scene has lyrics which are all from Godzilla’s perspective of the the events of the movie. Some theorize that they are an extension of the scientist who was studying him’s experiences. “If I die in this world who will know something of me? I am lost, no one knows, there’s no trace of my suffering”, “a shaft of light is all I need to cease the darkness killing me”. These are all Godzilla and perhaps the scientist’s pain and suffering. Specifically, Godzilla knows he’s an abomination. He feels it not only emotionally, but physically. He’s in constant excruciating pain, constantly trying to find where he is in this world that is not made for him. He’s a monster made but not by choice. It’s all he can do to survive and he’s being punished for it. But he also wants all of it to go away. He wants to get revenge on those who made and then punished him, the true monsters, but also he wants to be free of the pain.
I was obsessed with godzilla as a kid in the 90's, I was definitely around 5 when I started watching them too! I didn't even notice they were dubbed to English until I was much older
What a sweet suprise seeing this as I'm going to see Godzilla's- Minus One/ Minus Color in a hour or so. Saw Minus One in color in IMAX multiple times and absolutely loved it!!! Seriously liked this version and the whole movie all around though the googly eyes in his beginning gave me serious giggles.... Hope you react to more of these if you haven't already and Minus One is a definite see!!!!
the concept art for the movie reveal some details. big one is the tail being 1. concept shows the tail would eventually split off and form another godzilla, supposedly this reboots godzilla jr. 2. the mini humanoid godzilla would each have their own distinct features. one had a shell with spikes, the other growing two additional heads, one with crystals growing out of its shoulders and foreheard and others. sound familiar? these would become the kaijus fans know from the franchise. the shel lwith spike is anguiras, the extra heads is ghidorah, the crystals is space godzilla and so on. so in time they would mutate, grow and become the the other kaijus.
Something that ended up getting cut for time/pacing is a whole thing that goes into the left behind pieces spawning new Godzilla's. It's a shame cause the immediate jump to spawning & flying does feel a bit sudden now.
This is def one of my top 3 Big G movies. ('54 and Minus One with it). But I love all of the G films. I have collections of the Showa, Heisei, Millenium and Legendary films, figures, posters, funkos...
One thing really about these Godzilla solo movies are how creative the human have to get to stop Godzilla. He can't be killed with military weaponry so they have to put their heads together.
Definitely need more kaiju reactions especially when Minus One becomes available. Also i love the little detail at 18:45 where before the bomb goes off, Godzilla's eyes are covered by s lend like a great white shark
This is a top 3 Godzilla film. Godzilla Minus One, which just ended its theatrical run (but is having a limited release black and white version for a few days right now), may be the new best Godzilla of all time.
Directed by the same person who directed neon genesis evangelion, if you know, you know. And that’s why shin godzilla has this true monster horror feel and the chilling, haunting musical scores throughout the movie.
Big Godzilla fan here. Glad to see Blind Wave reacting to this. I have mixed feelings about this movie, but without a doubt it has the best atomic breath scene ever (I have yet to see Minus One)...Looking forward to more.
Godzilla Minus One is a masterpiece. I have very good things to say about both Godzilla breaths, and I'll leave it at that if you've managed to avoid spoilers.
That shot early on, where Godzilla is making his way up a river and shoving the mass of boats upstream, is (minus the Godzilla part) almost exactly the scene from a famous piece of footage of the Tōhoku tsunami. You can find it if you dig around RUclips, a small river just starts flowing the other way, and turns into a massive upstream torrent shoving a mass of boats along. It's one of the most terrifying pieces of natural disaster footage I've ever seen, and it really puts the disaster in perspective that the early stages of this *fictional kaiju attack* are exactly what tens of thousands of real people actually went through in 2011.
Im in the same boat as Jake about godzilla, except its my Second fandom after trek, since both my parents are trekkies. Im with jake & eric in the intro facepalming about aaron Jake is maybe my favorite member of blind wave now
This movie is SCARY. When the purple beam came on, and that music... This movie is scary. The last shot of the movie lingered on my mind long after the credits rolled, for days even.
Shin Godzilla is an excellent movie, and for a while it was my second favourite Godzilla movie topped only by the original. That being said, Minus One clears it. Shin is still great though, it really is, but I hope you guys check Minus One when you can.
Great movie. I hope this leads to more Godzilla reactions. Showa era might be a bit cheesy and old fashioned to jump into but Heisei onwards would be great.
I will say that this version is a great interpretation of the iconic King Of The Monsters, but that split lower jaw during the first atomic breath scene was honestly super creepy to me. It was like Godzilla had a love child with the Predator and a Graboid from the movie Tremors. I recommend watching the original Japanese Godzilla movies from 1954 to early 2002 to get a better sense of what makes Godzilla iconic, despite the English dubbing being supremely cheesy and the action in the 60s and 70s movies being corny as hell.
3:30 Already a fan of Jake for saying that. Also, you guys should check out 2006's The Host directed by Bong Joon Ho who did Snowpiercer and Parasite. Also Jake, have you seen The X from Outer Space? 4:30 This is funny because it is essentially the same thing that Mark Bernardin and Kevin Smith said last year on the Fat Man Beyond podcast about wanting just Godzilla and who cares about the human story. How their tune changed with Godzilla Minus One which I hope does with Aaron as well.
There was a deleted scene where military personnel not obly found a piece of godzilla’s dorsal fin but also his piece of cell that had eyes and teeth growing out
I dunno if u guys read the comments or not but here ya go: it was confirmed by Anno that the missing Professor IS Godzilla. He mutated himself as revenge for the death of his wife. He purposely drowned himself over the radioactive waste and fused with the small lifeform that was already there to turn into Godzilla. This fits in with Evangelion, which Anno also created.

Made my mom watch this after she finished the Netflix series about the Fukushima nuclear disaster. It pairs really well with all the politics and response to the disaster.
I don't know if Shin Godzilla was the first media to come up with the whole massive burst of flames focusing into a concentrated beam of annihilation thing, buy I sure as hell saw a lot more media starting to use that idea after this movie came out. I know for sure that From Software started using it for some of their boss battles, and even Thordak in Legends of Vox Machina does it in his attack on Emon.
At first I thought that Shin Godzilla was just a mix of political satire and a horror movie, but man, after I didn’t deep dive into lore, I see that it is truly one of the most tragic movies I have ever seen. The ones who know, know. The ones who don’t, highly recommend watching the many videos on the lore plus finding a lyric video of the song playing during his first atomic breath (Who Will Know). Soul shattering.
When Godzilla destroyed or affected a certain area, those were the previous locations each generation of Godzilla went through. Each size of Godzilla was a previous generations size at one point with the eye remaining the same size from the first size. The director was able to clear his mind enough to finish Evangelion because of this movie. There was going to be a second Shin Godzilla with Shin Ghidorah spawning from a lab sample running amok.

Everything about this film works
I think he was supposed to have 8 forms
It’s easy to forget that when you actually scale them with the tail, those “tiny” Godzillas were actually over ten feet tall…
So terrifying
yup, still so big enough
Possibility of growing wings and flying
Shit would be like tyrants from Resident Evil but on steroids
46:50 So, terrifying and fun fact: there's a deleted scene where they find pieces of Godzilla's blood scattered around the city which started developing eyes and organs.
We know thanks to extra information in interviews and art pieces from the director of the film that this version of the character is possibly unkillable and the most powerful so far, because according to him Godzilla would "evolve until he could move to other planets, other solar systems, and even reach a point where he would become/absorb the entire universe, while suffering the entire time."
All of this sounds odd until you realize the person in charge of this movie is also the one who came up with Neon Genesis Evangelion.
That just seems excessive
@@itsjustsilver8172yes it is…which is completely in line for the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion
So in response, he almost made humanoid godzilla's.
man I really hope that they make a sequel but we all know that sequels most of the times aren't as great and sometimes ruins the prequel
The scariest part about that? Every part of him that splits off will adapt differently in response to different threats.

Minus One is so good. I really hope the guys watch it as well
So say we all.
I just really wish it would drop on streaming 😔
this one is so much better than Minus One
I only wanted to watch Godzilla and Kong beat the living shit out of each other! It did not disappoint. I’m excited for GxK so I can watch more giant lizards and apes kick each other’s ass! 😂
So I finally came around to watching the final three episodes of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and it definitely ended on a high note. *Mari* *Yamamoto* as *Keiko* *Randa* killed it in the last episode. A very realistic and emotional reaction finding out how 56 years had just passed and not 57 days.
Monarch finally improved the human element from MonsterVerse. The part with Godzilla didn’t feel necessary. It was almost randomly added onto it so we can see the Big G kick ass. The strongest parts came from the emotional reunion between families.

I’ve only seen 9 Godzilla movies in my entire life out of the 38 G movies and 33 live action ones. I’ve seen parts of Godzilla vs. Biollante and Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) but not all of it. I’ve read good things about Shin Godzilla (2016). I would rank them like this among my favorites and not best….

6. Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)

8. Godzilla (1998)
9. Godzilla Raids Again (1955)
I don’t consider Godzilla vs. Kong to be a good film at all. It’s not. And it feels more like a Kong movie with Godzilla used as a plot device. That’s fine with me because I love both characters. But movies like that are more my cup of tea. It’s basically a modern remake of the 1962 film and it delivered at least in spectacle and awe. Can’t wait for my Art Spirits Hyper Solid Series Kong to arrive tomorrow.
While I enjoyed Minus One and I’ll probably watch Minus One Minus Color either today or tomorrow, I’m not dying to rewatch it because it’s a bit depressing. It lacks the fun that the Showa ones had. It works better as a film than a dumb popcorn flick but I prefer the dumb ones for monster movies like this. Like GxK in two months is right up my alley.
For me, it’s F the human characters because the only things I desire to see in kaiju movies like this are titans cracking skulls. They’re like MCU with mostly alpha males with their penis wagging and CGI WWE wrestling. Minus One makes a great double feature with Oppenheimer. We get to see the Japanese POV after the atomic bombs dropped on them.
There are men who say they buy Playboy magazines to read the articles. I come to watch kaiju movies to watch them clobber each other.

You can see tons of Evangelion references, including the soundtrack. And yes, it was Hideaki Anno
20:51 Can I say again that "Who Will Know?" is among the best Godzilla sountracks out there?
it's THE best soundtrack
You can say it as many times as you feel the need as far as I'm concerned.
-1.0 Resolution is pretty close but yes, Who Will Know? hits different.
Yo, I'd become a 100 dollar Patreon if Blind Wave reacted to the Miyazaki movies lol
It's so nice seeing Shin Godzilla getting more and more attention from these reaction channels lately. They're gonna go nuts when Minus One becomes available.
It's the natural progression after Oppenheimer.
Depending on the usage "Shin" in Japanese can mean "True", "Heart", "God" or "New".
I think in this situation, it would mean god, but could also mean new, but yea, such a badass version of Godzilla
深(Deep,Abyss)
芯(Core)
進(Evolution)
審(Judgment)
These are also pronounced ''Shin''.
@@wadepsilon01 Interesting, thanks for this.
@@JayRodriguez31Japanese is alot more complex than that. Gojira is the mixture of the word Gorilla and Kujira which is the Japanese word for whale so Godzilla isn't really the proper translation for Gojira as it's not a word but a mixture of different words.
Train: exists
Godzilla: So you have chosen death.
Holy shit that's honestly a beautiful take from the ending...thank you for sharing, I never had thought of this before!
For me it's more like... Gojira was evolving into more dangerous and destructive forms so his final form was "humans".
"If Godzilla is defeated by committee, he will become a committee."
@@_Gato.Negro_best part is that multiple interpretations can be true simultaneously
Like fine we’ll release him and THEN they’ll have to do something!”
This was so hilarious because the most widely accepted thoery is that this is EXACTLY what Goro Maki did.
(tragedy)"
* There's an art book that contains images of additional mutations for Godzilla -- he wouldn't have stopped mutating until he'd destroyed the earth, spread out into space, and eventually consumed the entire universe.
Does this mean we get Minus One when they have access to it? That's the best movie of the year for me

I don't think Shin Gundam would work because most Gundam works are already long, brutal, and dark looks at themselves
@@ravenfrancis1476
Actually!

Despite Godzillas derpy eyes in his various versions of himself in this, I still loved the concept.
Ya, it's googly eyes cracked me up

It went with the idea of it being an ancient fish, it started as "primitive" in form. I also saw it as a meta reference to how Godzilla evolved from dude in a rubber suit all the way to now cgi.
Zero thought behind those eyes made him scarier
Yep, it's fish eyes because that is how it began. The scientist dove overboard and merged with the marine life creating Godzilla.
This is not just a monster movie, it is a horror movie and also a fictional science movie (not sci-fi), it has it all. Minus One might be the novelty right now, but this grounded, realistic take on Godzilla is a delight to watch.

I'm so SO glad you guys reacted to this movie! This is my favorite Gidzilla movie for its amazing GZ design, cinematography, but also because the story is about how actual governments react and work in this kind of scenario. Withot having one main character. A stellar movie all around.
Goro Maki didn't just release Godzilla on japan, he also FUSED with it, this was confirmed in Goro Maki's Journal.
Love Shin's design, it's one of the most unique.
Hope you check out the other two Shin movies: Shin Ultraman and Shin Kamen Rider!
This movie is so good and creepy and beautiful. Glad Godzilla is having his moment again!
Similar origin story as Jake as far as the Godzilla fandom. My first fandom ever and I love being a part of it

Best OST!
the concept art for the movie reveal some details. big one is the tail being 1. concept shows the tail would eventually split off and form another godzilla, supposedly this reboots godzilla jr. 2. the mini humanoid godzilla would each have their own distinct features. one had a shell with spikes, the other growing two additional heads, one with crystals growing out of its shoulders and foreheard and others. sound familiar? these would become the kaijus fans know from the franchise. the shel lwith spike is anguiras, the extra heads is ghidorah, the crystals is space godzilla and so on. so in time they would mutate, grow and become the the other kaijus.
Something that ended up getting cut for time/pacing is a whole thing that goes into the left behind pieces spawning new Godzilla's. It's a shame cause the immediate jump to spawning & flying does feel a bit sudden now.

Oh hey, I really enjoyed this one, but that first atomic breath truly is something else. The music & the sound & the visuals. Love it.
Directed by the same person who directed neon genesis evangelion, if you know, you know. And that’s why shin godzilla has this true monster horror feel and the chilling, haunting musical scores throughout the movie.
My theory about this movie is that Godzilla is either possessed by or acting as a container for the spirit of Goro Maki's wife

Absolutely more Godzilla! Love Jake and his input!
!!!!! I’m so glad they are watching one of my top 3 favorite movies!
Im in the same boat as Jake about godzilla, except its my Second fandom after trek, since both my parents are trekkies.
Im with jake & eric in the intro facepalming about aaron
Jake is maybe my favorite member of blind wave now
you guys gotta watch the older godzilla movies
Plasma Cutter Atomic Breath and Plasma Back Scale Beams go hard!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Minus one is kind of a fusion of shin godzilla & the 1954 original in the best way, I hope y'all watch it
This movie is SCARY. When the purple beam came on, and that music... This movie is scary. The last shot of the movie lingered on my mind long after the credits rolled, for days even.
Man, this really was an episode of Evangelion minus the Evas. Even used some of the same music. That's Anno for you.
The Godzilla shadow is a nice touch
Shin Godzilla is an excellent movie, and for a while it was my second favourite Godzilla movie topped only by the original. That being said, Minus One clears it. Shin is still great though, it really is, but I hope you guys check Minus One when you can.
Great movie. I hope this leads to more Godzilla reactions. Showa era might be a bit cheesy and old fashioned to jump into but Heisei onwards would be great.
54 would be great to watch before the whole heisei series
Shin and minus one are my favs❤
Shin シン in the title of Shin Godzilla conveys either "Shin 新 = new" and "Shin 真 = true"
映画のリアクションありがとう✨🦊⛩
There was a deleted scene where military personnel not obly found a piece of godzilla’s dorsal fin but also his piece of cell that had eyes and teeth growing out
Minus one is on Netflix subbed now!
wow, what a surprise! love this movie, so super excited for the reaction

My Top 3 Favorite Godzillas Overall
1. 2021
2. 1989
3. 2023
Take note that I’m no Godzilla/kaiju expert. Looking back at my childhood, I think I knew Godzilla and King Kong before I saw King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962) circa 1987-1988 on TV. I probably knew them both when I was about 5 or 6 circa 1986.
1. Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
2. Godzilla Minus One (2023)
3. Godzilla (2014)
4. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
5. Godzilla (1954)
6. Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)
7. King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)
I know it isn't out yet but when it does can you guys react to godzilla minus one please it is such a good movie
one of the best godzilla ever made
Made my mom watch this after she finished the Netflix series about the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
I really hope yall watch the 2 godzilla movies that are the best "movies" in the franchise next, First 1954, and then Minus One
GMK would make for a interesting Godzilla movie reaction
When Godzilla destroyed or affected a certain area, those were the previous locations each generation of Godzilla went through. Each size of Godzilla was a previous generations size at one point with the eye remaining the same size from the first size. The director was able to clear his mind enough to finish Evangelion because of this movie. There was going to be a second Shin Godzilla with Shin Ghidorah spawning from a lab sample running amok.
Aaron always the only one talking while rest of guys tryna jst enjoy movie
This means y'all are doing Godzilla: Minus One, right?
You guys should do a reaction to Godzilla Minus One!! Its streaming now...
it's not available subbed
@@JustJake91 It is! On Netflix!
@@Ram875 we did it, it's up on patreon
I expected more of Eric, you don't have to shit on Godzilla vs Kong to compliment this movie. Both are going for different things, both are good
I kinda hope any future godzilla reactions are jake Calvin and Eric
