as do i, as i continually travel and live in remote desert places. he's so right- humans need quiet, and are not quite sane without regular doses. i cannot relay the stress i feel when i go into cities now, where the noise is deafening to me.

i was camped in a place in new mexico a couple weeks ago... it was so, so quiet that when i heard a sound, i wondered "what is that sound?" i followed it to its source, which turned out to be soap bubbles popping in a bucket of water, a good 10 feet from me.

My quietest place was the 22 acres I owned in Townsend, Montana surrounded by BLM. Twice a day there was a logging truck on the main road. The rest of the time it was just absolutely silent. So NICE!! Time actually slows down.

I've had a "saying of the day" calendar page on my fridge for over 30 years. It says:
"Solitude is not a luxury. It is a right and a necessity."
I have always been an introvert first, extrovert second. I don't mind crowds or parties at all. Speaking to a perfect stranger is really interesting and you learn from them.
    BUT
I NEED my time in quiet thought and away from others. My family got it. When I was in a quiet mood they'd generally leave me to it.
I have had migraines for 37 years and they contribute to the need for silence. Pain is not quiet. At all. So on my migraine free days I still have quiet time~but it's not done in suffering as usual.
Hubby also still leaves me to it now that our kids are grown.
I'd LOVE to have done what he does when I was younger.

Talk about "quiet"? Try Lake Powell, April 2020. The lake had been shut down to motorized traffic due to the pandemic. I had the lake to myself... in my kayak. No wind... water smooth as glass. Only the sound of my own paddling. It was kind of eerie, at first, being so used to ambient noise in the town where I live. Silence can be a little scary at first but it's definitely appreciated when you know where to find it and how to get back to it. Loved seeing the Vermillion Cliffs in the video, tho.

Why would you sit next to a microphone for three hours if you are concerned with making noise. Sounds like the best idea would be to leave the microphone and come back three hours later.

    Friendly PSA here:
If you are incapable of not eating drinking or going to the bathroom in a 3 hour period and you are above the age of 2 that is not normal please consult a doctor. An adult human male should be able to go at least 12 hours without eating, drinking or going to the bathroom with only minimal physical discomfort.
