I was transitioning as well and decided on my big chop for the same reasons you did, cut it exactly like yours and after watching a few of your videos I've realized that we basically have the exact same hair type/curl pattern so I'm really grateful to have stumbled upon your Instagram and your RUclips channel! Your story is almost identical to mine. I was so curious about what my natural hair would look like and skipped two relaxers while braiding then from there proceeded to transition. Then one day I was trying to fix my hair bc I had a performance that night and the two textures were a nightmare omg. So my friend was like let me just cut it. Bam big chop with no time to panic. Hit the stage with my TWA and never looked back

I wish I saw this video when I big chop back in Sept 2018. I was an emotional wreck although I watched many videos. What helped me embrace my hair was watching Napply Ever After. So inspirational. I will keep going my year is almost here and I still feel uncomfortable wearing my hair out. Well after this video it's time.

Wow. Your story is so similar to mine. I’ve had long hair all my life and even though I’ve always been relaxed my hair has always been healthy but 8 months ago I decided to go natural. I plan on big chopping soon and even though I’m scared and never had short hair before I’m ready for a change. At first I thought I might look terrible with short hair but now I’m kinda like whatever I’m gonna work with what I get and love it lol Thanks for sharing ❤️

Beautiful cut and what a face! Glad you are enjoying your natural journey. I am two months post big chop and loving it. This is my 4th big chop and the first big chop of my 30s. I have mostly received positive feedback from those around me but there has been some shade (mostly from men who knew me when I had a big shoulder length afro). I notice I am getting positive feedback and attention from male strangers. What has the feedback been from men who knew you with your long, relaxed hair? Love your channel! 💓💞💕

I did the big chop this week and I am glad. My relaxer hair was not growing and my hair just looked horrible. I am soooo excited with this new journey, and it's all gone!!!! my hair is just real dry, my hair was super shiny I hope it comes back:)
My mom won’t let me BC but I want to be free from the damaged ends. Transitioning is so hard and I want a change !! Love your hair btw😘

Alyssa Marie thank you. I did the big chop last Sunday and so far so good, enjoying every second of it so far. I am going through now getting to know which products will work for me, but the joy of just standing under the shower and wetting from head to toe is so golden.

From your pictures you were already beautiful but there is definitely another level of beauty revealed with your shorter hair!!! I'm almost a year into my natural journey, December will be a year. I was inspired by Amandla Stanberg's beautiful curls in the movie "Everything, Everything". Like you I was curious to see what my natural hair would look like after years of relaxed hair. I cut it off in 2003 but went back to a relaxed short haircut. I'm totally embracing it! I follow you now on Instagram and you are hairrrrrrrrr goals!!!!! Thanks for the tips, I think I'll try the side twists to add some style to my TWA.

Love and beauty is within. People can dictate other about what beauty is, nobody's know what really beauty is. We are beautiful with or with out hair. While we worry about hair, and looks others are fighting for their life, due to cancer. Be free and be happy with yourself. Don't live for other. You are gorgeous.

Just big chop and having trouble styling everyday. It's so flat when I wake up. Ugh. The first day it was so pretty
I have cut my hair and worn a short pixie cute 2x and loved it. But I was relaxed during that time...Since 2013 I have been relaxer free and have had long-ish hair but I have damaged it from heat styling. I’m considering a big chop to start over and really get into my healthy hair journey but for some reason I just can’t pull the trigger and make an appointment or just take some clippers to my own dang head lol...weird how I have had short hair before and loved it but now I’m hesitant
Yours looks gorgeous. I did bc for the first time ever and I still don't know how to feel about it. I wish my forehead was small lol. I've been wearing wigs weaves extensions crochet twists. Ugh idk how to feel I just love long hair and honestly can't wait for it to grow back

10/2021 - Two weeks in! Just completed a big chop of 24 inches to allow my natural grey to grow out after coloring so many years. Yes. I cut it myself! I just could not wait until my appointment scheduled for 12/1/2021.
It is very freeing, I have chopped my hair twice and I loved it. I am again thinking of doing a third chop. lol

I got my last perm in sometime in August of 2017. I've been transitioning since then! And I use absolutely NO HEAT on my hair, other than to deep condition. I exclusively air dry. Transitioning is HARD, and I hate it! I have a ton of hair and my natural hair is trying to break out, but my relaxed hair keeps holding it back. I have tons of knots and tangles every time I wash, and it makes me not want to wash my hair because I lose so much with every wash. I was planning on doing the BC in mid may, around my birthday, but half of me wants to do it at the end of this month (march) or the beginning of April. What has stopped me from cutting it already is what stops everyone else haha...I'm scared. I've had long hair all my life, and I'm just scared of the BC. And I'm scared I won't know how to style my hair and it'll be all hard and ratchet looking haha. I don't wear wigs or any sort of fake hair, so I will really have to own my hair once I cut it. I dunno. Going through some back and forth at this point, but it surely will happen one day. The idea of going back to a perm makes me sick! Anyway, that's my story haha! I can't wait to be as free as you!

I’ve bee thinking about big chopping for a while now. I have some heat damage and I feel like my hair is just uneven all around and I’m over it! I already chopped off the back because my wash and go’s were curly at the top and straight at the bottom so I chopped off the back on Friday. Tomorrow I am going to get the rest chopped off but I am nervous! I just hope I can rock it

Hi I am currently transitioning (3 months in) and I really want to give up. Your video was encouraging but I am not sure if it was enough. September 5 when I take some time off I will decide to chop or relax because the two textures are too much. I live in Japan so I really hope I can find a salon that will chop my hair if i chose that.

I big chopped about a week ago so I can totally relate to all you have said. It was scary but also felt so free. I didn't realize how naturally curly my hair was ( I just thought it was nappy - hence perming it since I was 14..LOL) but it's actually a great grade of hair. I am offended though as some people who see me think I have a texturizer in my hair? Why would I say I want to go natual, chopped off all of hair and put a chemical back on my TWA? I guess some people think black folks can't have good grade of hair without chemicals? smh
