DIESEL VS PETROL | Which one should you buy? Is diesel dead? | TD Podcast with Kranti - Ep 7

  • Earlier, deciding between a diesel and petrol car was not a difficult decision. Those who would clock more kilometres on their vehicle used to prefer diesel vehicles because of high fuel-efficiency and significantly lower price as compared to petrol. But over the last few years, the demand for diesel vehicles in India has plummetted, largely because of the narrowing price difference between the two fuels. Furthermore, diesel vehicles have also been earning bad rap for emitting more pollutants as compared to petrol counterparts, which has also affected their sales. However diesel has many pros too. In this episode of TD Podcast with Kranti we are going to discuss the future of diesel and many more questions around it.

All guys in my view go for diesel cars. Because diesel prices will be low in future but petrol prices will go higher and higher.second thing bio diesel will come in future and its prices mostly downside then petrol. Third thing diesel is mostly using in heavy vehicles and Indian government is always side off businessmen so one day diesel prices is very low for businessman and petrol prices higher for common man😍😍😍

Sir aajkal to diesel aur petrol me bahut sari cars k rate exactly same hai ...
    Like
    Venue SX - 11.30
    Sonet HTX - 11.90
    Ecosport Titanium - 11.30
Ab bahut confusion hai ... Koi bol rha hai 2023 m strict rules ayenge diesel k liye aur 2025 m ban ho skta hai.
Meri driving jyada to ni hai but diesel efficient and cheap (bhale hi 5-7 rs) hai aur car same cost me aa rhi hai.
Har sal agar 10-15000 bachenge to 10 saal m 1-1.5 L ka benifit to hoga hi.
But only point of concern hai ki kahi ban na ho jaye, ya fir extra koi duty type na lage de government. Can you please share your views on that? Thanks.

In upcoming years other OEMs might also tend to follow this. If you really want performance oriented car then you may test drive 1.4L turbo petrol variant of creta. since your monthly running is around 1200km, and suppose if the price difference between petrol and diesel is around 15rs, then considering the mileage difference you can save around 2500 rs per month by using diesel car. so the yearly savings would be 30000rs.
Hence in 10 years you can save around 3 lakh rupees by using diesel car compared to a petrol car. So now, after 10 years what would be the resale value of your petrol car? If it is more than 3 lakh then buying a petrol car is good option otherwise buying a diesel car would be the best option.
Suppose your monthly driving becomes more than 1200km then buying a diesel car would be the best option, because as you travel more even the car also wears out more and more and even if it is petrol it you will feel bored to drive it anymore after 10 years.

The energy produced by petrol & diesel are both sources of Hydrocarbons. A Diesel engine runs leaner (giving more mileage per liter of fuel), produces lesser oxides of carbon than a petrol engine (one of the reason for global warming). However what diesel engine produces more is particulate matter (soot) which goes into air & gets inhaled by humans. This is addressed in BS6 with DPF to arrest the particulate matter ... A BS6 diesel engine may be cleaner than a petrol engine but is expensive. So for a price conscious country like india it didn't hold much value to invest hence companies started shying away from diesels
So there seems to be an ambiguity whether to save the planet by reducing petrol cars or save mankind by reducing diesel cars
Electric vehicles may produce near zero emission while running (pollution happens from tyres also) but those Li-Ion batteries (after EVs become the mainstay of transportation) when disposed off might create a different level of pollution altogether
