  • This video is my newest journey of making a mini tweed dress, with the tweed fabric I wove from scratch. I called this dress Cotton Candy Tweed Dress, because of the color and the textures of the yarns I used.🍬
I always loved tweed fabrics, especially fancy tweed fabrics used in Chanel, Dior, Valentino and others, so I decided to try weaving it myself using various yarns🍬
I named this Cotton Candy Tweed Dress, because I picked the yarns with colors of baby pink, baby blue, white and ivory, which reminded me of fluffy cotton candies. I bought some from Michaels' yarn section, and others from Etsy's various sellers. My favorite part was envisioning what it'll look like, and creating the design.
To weave this fabric, I purchased a loom kit (89cm*87cm, or 35"*34") with 1 heddle bar, and 2 shuttle sticks. On this loom, first, I hung the yarns vertically in a repeated order to create a grid pattern. Then, I used the heddle bar, tying each yarn on it to make it go through the vertical yarns.
After making all the fabric pieces, I added a fusible interfacing (Pellon 906F Sheer Fusible Interfacing) to make it have a bit of strength. To make the halter top, I used the pattern Simplicity 8330. Half-circle skirt was self drafted.
Overall, this was such a fun project :) To be very honest, though, I wasn't 100% sure if I could make this happen. First, I didn't know anything about weaving, so buying a loom and the yarns was a bit of a commitment. Also, I couldn't find much reference of what it's like to weave fancy tweed fabrics by one's own on the Internet. In general, it was quite a big adventure for me.
So, I'm really glad it worked out! Now that I know I could weave this type of tweed fabric myself, I'm planning to make some in other color schemes like black, or navy :)
Thank you for watching this. Hope you find them useful! See you in the next video!🍬
