Dude you fixed my Sonar Platinum! I was having unexplained audio engine dropouts for two and half weeks. A power failure while I had sonar running may have caused some settings to change a few weeks ago. I stumbled onto your cakwalk vid and just watched it.. Had no idea you would have the fix I needed! Rock-ON!
I have my I/0 buffer size in there set to 2048. I use quite a bit of sophisticated plugins that hog the pc & I’m using an i7 quad core with 8-12 gigs of ram & a two terabyte hard drive. I also have the latency buffer size set to 2048 in the software & my interface mixer. That’s where I set it; & it’s working fantastic!
Great explanation. Ammount of buffer depend on audio interface speed. If its USB audio interface, then on top of that it is also limited to the maximum speed of the usb. Playing buffer games was a common thing with all audio interfaces for a long time. I have another problem in cakewalk that im trying to solve. I have recently puchasec a new audio interface and I wanted to start recording in 96khz 24bit. I changed the settings on my audio interface, I even unchecked the boxes that allow programs to modify this setting, and when I run cakewalk start a new progect it is automatically set down to 16 bit depth. And I mean come one cakewalk, how dare you steal the control of my audio interface, and there is no way to change it to 24 bit inside cakewalks audio setup because the bit depth option is grayed out and cant be changed. I have seen forum with topics from people who experienced the same issue and I have not seen anyone post anything about how to fix this.
Thanks...this seems to have solved my issue. Increased I/O to 256 and so far, so good. Also was helpful to know what that error message number in (5) was about. Thanks!!
@@RecordingStudio9 You also saved me some $$ since I thought it was my older Roland Quadcapture causing this, and thought that I possibly needed to replace. There was no straight-forward info from Cakewalk/Bandlab site or any where else that I came across...before this.
You are a star mate! Yet again you've resolved an issue I was having with Cakewalk. I've been trying to export a 12 audio track song as 12 separate wave files and I get the dreaded 'Audio Engine Dropout' pop-up every time at the same place (near the end of course). The code was (8) which the documentation reads - Disk full or error writing record wave files. Make sure the disk is not read only and has sufficient free space. Not really helpful considering I have plenty of disk space available. Anyway, I saw your video and thought I'd try the I/O buffering you suggested and - it worked!! So, again, many thanks.

Hi, am from Nigeria and i really love your content, I've been using Cakewalk for over 8yrs now, my laptop always hang when ever i am mixing with pretty much plugins running at the same time, its quite different from dropout, can you help? Thanks
This might be the most helpful video on this topic and quickly explained. Thank you!. I'm not for sure yet but i think this option only worked for me when i checked the box. Have you tried that. I have 50 track and multiple delays and filters etc. I'll update
man, I just didn't find the options because the labels are different at preset version, but I managed to increase some values, I dont know exactly but I increased some of them and now there is no glitch at all. So, thanks for your tips.
I am trying to record guitar, with gt10 pedalboard through USB, I have no external audio card, so I go USB and ASIO, I just dont know how to config ASIO and all the latency compensation and those options at the right, the ms in ASIO was in 512 I think and I put it in 1000+ because it supposedly solved glitching. After some minutes playing through cakewalk it started to glitch and all I did was restart cakewalk, but now I did somethings you said and I just kept on playing and didn't glitch again.
Hi. Thanks for sharing this info. I have one issue though. No matter what number i will enter in the Sync and Caching/playback or record I/O buffer size window it will always reset to 506 each time I launch cakewalk. Why, oh why? These audio dropouts are driving me mad!
When I try to open my cakewalk project it shows "Changes will not take effect until the next time you start the program. To make them take effect now, please choose Exit from the File menu, then start the program again" How do I fix this?
im getting this bad popping and crackling. this didnt happen before i added compressors and eq to my double track guitars, and changed my drum plugin, as well as adding comperssors and eq to the 2 drum tracks. i doubled my playbcak buffer to 512and it did nothing. my cpu sits at like 30% usage during playback. its a 2700x
Try disabling all and enable one at a time and see how many before it starts failing. If you’re mixing and not recording, you can set the buffer to 2048 for best results.
Hi there. I was mixing for one of my projects when I randomly wanted to try using the hidden 'Drum Replacer' plugin (I'm an idiot) on one of the tracks which in hindsight I shouldn't have. Cakewalk immediately crashed, and upon reopening, audio wouldn't play for some reason. I have absolutely no idea why. I can see the tracks are technically playing, and I can see the volume on the individual tracks but the master bus isn't responding. I've tried multiple things, plugging in/out my soundcard, rerouting tracks, etc, but the audio just wouldn't play. All I hear is a popping/crackling sound when I hit 'play' and 'pause'. Audio otherwise works for new projects, so not sure what really happened post the software crash that was triggered by the drum replacer. Not even sure if that was what caused it. Can you/anyone PLEASE advise because I'm absolutely lost for ideas?
I’m currently facing an issue with my audio setup in Cakewalk. Previously, everything was working fine when the sample rate was set to 44.1 kHz, and I could hear the guitar sound clearly. However, after changing the sample rate to 48 kHz, I'm still receiving the audio signal in the software-indicated by the signal levels-but there is no sound output from my device. All my settings appear to be correct, and I’ve checked the audio interface settings. Despite the signal being present, the audio does not play through my speakers when using the 48 kHz sample rate. I would appreciate any guidance or suggestions you might have to resolve this issue.
I tried exporting the tracks so that way when I imported the sound would be meshed together, meaning I would delete the track that had the VST. And it still doesn't work.
You can also freeze a track which renders the audio and disables any plugin or instrument. When you say it still doesn’t work need more detail to help you.
I have problem currently that I cant find an answer for. I shut it down the other night and all was fine. Today I opened the project I'm working on and when it plays back it stops after a couple of seconds and then continues immediately. It does this throughout the length of the timeline and on any other project I open. Its like some thing has changed my settings. Has anyone else had this problem?
I'm a newbie at audio production but have used a Adobe Audition for simple stuff since 2007. Currently using Cakewalk and taking online classes for audio production. I'm almost done with the basic course, but have a problem with the final exercises. I'm mixing about 16 tracks and a lot have plugins of chorus/reverb/eq. Whether I play them back or try to mix down to a WAV file, I'm getting clicks, pops, static, and dropouts. The audio still plays and I don't get an official pop-up on the screen when it's happening, but I can clearly hear it, i.e., a lead vocal in the middle cuts out or a harmony vocal on the left or right cuts out with static and returns a few seconds later. I have a new HP Envy desktop I got last year on Windows 10. I've tweaked settings for my buffers and have tried to "freeze" tracks and mix down to smaller groups - still have issues. Let me know what tips you recommend so I can get the right settings and have normal function without dropouts. Thanks!
When I asked around - including instructors at my online audio college, they all suggested I need an audio interface since the built-in Windows drivers cannot handle audio production. I got one :-). Question for you on speaker setup as I got the Audient iD14 interface. I have Bose Companion dual speakers running into a KVM switch. How do I set up my iD14 so I can work with my Bose speakers? The connection cable for the Bose speakers is a standard 1/8" headphone cable. Do I need get anything else besides a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter? When I'm using the interface, I will mostly likely have to disconnect from the KVM switch so I can use on the interface. The Audient has ASIO drivers and there are ways within Audient where I can change the latency settings in there as opposed to Cakewalk. Before I installed Audient, I could not access ASIO drivers. Thanks.

What timing. I had that happen twice yesterday. I went into Windows Control Panel/ System and changed my priorities back to programs (I needed background priority a while back and changed it then) Also, set Windows up to manage my paging files. I think that helped, but I also decided that if I needed to do other stuff online, I would save my work and close CW first and likewise close other programs when using CW. There's only so much RAM to go around after all and the OS is a RAM pig. No problems since. Btw, I was rebooting to fix the issue. Can you restart it from the program instead?
