    The ongoing discussion about whether Apostolics should listen to secular music is just one facet of a much larger and deeply rooted debate in Christianity-Christian liberty versus Christian conviction. This episode masterfully navigated that complex tension with wisdom and biblical principle, emphasizing the importance of rightly dividing the Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
    Many believers struggle to discern where personal conviction ends and Christian liberty begins. The reality is that music, like all forms of media, carries messages and influences that affect our hearts and minds. But as followers of Christ, our responsibility isn’t just about making blanket judgments-it’s about walking in discernment, being led by the Spirit, and understanding that what may be permissible for one may not be edifying for another (1 Corinthians 10:23).
    Instead of focusing on rigid legalism or unchecked freedom, the key is to align our choices with what glorifies God and strengthens our faith. This episode did an incredible job of highlighting that balance. Convictions are personal; liberty is biblical-but both require wisdom.

      Wrong when it comes to music! Music was the only thing on earth that was made in heaven music was made heaven with only one purpose and that's to worship and praise God so whatever kind of music you're listening to, that's who you're worshipping and praising and most worldly music especially these days but since the late 70's early 80's I've noticed worldly music seems to be worshipping the devil listen to the lyrics even some of the rhythms are hypnotizing

    In defense of the Bishop- he said to avoid worldliness. “Happy Birthday” and the national anthem are secular but not worldly. Song of Solomon is a love song. There is a category distinction. Not everything that isn’t explicitly worship music is directly in conflict with the glory of God and the knowledge of Christ.
    Context is key. His comments could have been more clear, but avoid worldliness was part of the context of what he said.

    Reading the comments, I'm amazed at the wildly different messages people think Bro. Bernard is giving.
    I'm reminded of a discussion I recently listened to on Biblos podcast. The point was made that regardless of personal feelings, opinions, or side of an argument a person finds themselves, attitude, specifically a right attitude is paramount. You can be right in your argument and still have a wrong attitude. Hint, probably ANY attitude that smells like pride or judgment will NOT smell good to God.
    I think what I appreciate most about listening to Bro. Bernard's answers, besides his obvious intelligence and teaching skill, is the humility, gentleness, and compassion evident in every word❤

    Understanding the entire context and full picture of Bro.Bernard’s point here, it does actually make sense. I think a lot of our own personal connotations of “secular music” are VERY negative. (When he first said “yes”, my mind was boggled, not going to lie.) But he points out that anything that is immoral and contrary to what scripture says is not okay and shouldn’t be entertained. This is what a lot of us are thinking about when it comes to what “secular” music is.
    HOWEVER, there are types of secular music that aren’t actually bad, which he gives a personal favorite of classical. It’s not Christian but also not immoral but still technically falls under the category of secular. This is a really good response actually. He’s not condoning immoral music but still saying that responsibly listening to generes that are technically secular is not a sin. Very well explained because he touched on all aspects of “secular music.”

    • @MichaelHines-d1x

      It does not have to be a sin
      The Bible says to lay aside every weight and the sin that does so easily beset us.
      Satan is slick and you will start with one thing and years down the line find urself doing the bad things.
      Notice while the church was powerful in God this was no question. But as we draw closer and closer to the coming of the Lord foolish questions start surfacing.
      Some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing Spirits and doctrines of devils.
      We need to spend more time praying and reading and we would not have all this idle time to listen to the devil.

      @@MichaelHines-d1x I’m not saying to listen to secular music of any genre But technically what he is saying is correct. Background music on a family photo collage, still technically not Christian. Going through Christmas lights and hearing “Rudolph the red nosed Reindeer ” or “Frosty the snowman”, or “12 Days Of Christmas” not Christian also. Simply what he’s saying in regards to what secular music is, that’s important to point out. I personally feel that that music is for the Glory of God alone, however that doesn’t change the fact there is secular music that isn’t necessarily sinful but still secular none the less. :)

    I think we have to be extremely careful about what we listen to. I’ve been a Christian for 16 years, and I stopped listening to secular music shortly after I came to Jesus. Somewhere along the line I have listened to a few worldly songs. One time I listened to a Fleetwood Mac song, seven wonders possibly, and then I listened to it again, and I listened to it again, and it sucked me in like a vacuum. I went to prayer because I felt convicted and a demon left me as I prayed in prayer closet. I’m pretty sure that song opened a portal for the enemy to come in. I am very careful about what I listen to, not perfect, but I don’t want demons in my life. FYI, I don’t remember hearing any lyrics in that song that were outright evil, but they did not glorify God in the slightest.

    I’m personally needing more understanding of this. For years, I have decided to not listen to any form of secular music. My revelation was reading about Lucifer and how he was mostly considered a leader of worship and praise in heaven. He knows music better than anyone but God. So when he was cast out, the one major thing I believe he uses is worship and praise to anything and anyone other than God. It’s his best weapon. I wake up and see the music industry in every major event, in fashion, in lifestyle, in games, at major sporting events, at inaugurations and political events. And people openly and freely accept it. My opinion is, if it moves the flesh and sets an emotion, then unless it glorifies God or has testimony of the goodness of God, I choose not to listen to it. This also goes for my family as well. Music ignited emotion, and the scripture tells me that the heart is wicked above all things. This is solely my opinion and my personal conviction.

      If that's the case, you shouldn't read ANY book unless it's the Bible. Having conversations with ANYONE about anything but God, is also not glorifying him; yet we will continue to do so. I believe the music is just like anything else. Food, conversations, books, music, etc, is all fine, it just can't be above God, and obviously not explicit. If you're bragging on how good a slice of pizza is, it doesn't mean you're worshipping it. I've been an apostolic my entire life, and there's a trend of overweight people in the church. We are quick to judge someone for listening to a love song, but yet forget about the other sins, such as gluttony.

    • @Lethalrain221
      @Lethalrain221 5 дней назад +3

      To add to that, you said the music industry is involved in every major event, and of course because it's one of our senses. Just like if you watch a baseball game, NASCAR, football, you'll realize a TON of restaurants sponsor these games, political events, etc. Doesn't mean we are worshipping the food, just enjoying it. Same with music. Just always put God first. Jesus gave most of us enough common sense, to know when we're in the wrong.

    • @LaCurlySue562
      @LaCurlySue562 4 дня назад +2

      As he stated, it's his personal conviction, as it is mine.
      Music has been a HUGE part of my entire life, since childhood. The Lord gave me the gift of singing since then and I ALWAYS knew and understood that it was from Him and FOR Him. However, my parents introduced me to many many genres of music, both English and Spanish and I appreciate them all.
      As a child, I sang hymns in church and the newer songs that started becoming popular. But, at 17, for many reasons relating to my family breaking up twice, I walked away from church, and God, really, for years. The world's music became an even bigger part of my everyday life. I associate songs with different times in my life and, even to people and relationships, both good and even bad, that hurt me. All of this was because of my choice to walk away from the Lord. And, so, when, at 23, I came back to the fold (for good, praise the Lord), I stopped listening to the world's music. It had too much weight on it for me. It reminded me of the pain from which the Lord had delivered me from. It elicited emotions I shouldn't have.
      So, I take it as with alcohol, which I also fell into, seeking what only God could provide. And, so, absolutely NO drink here and there, even of the wine that folk in the Bible drank. Why? Because the Lord convicted me not to.
      So, I would say as the Word says, we have grace and liberty in Christ. But, let's not abuse that, thinking we're "alright" because without knowing, we could be failing, within our hearts and minds, even if it doesn't materialize visually/ physically. Shall we continue sinning that grace may abound?
      As with the food situation, amén! Many also fall into that.
      So, WHY put ourselves so close to a line where the enemy reigns? Let us put our minds on all things that are pure, and good and worthy of praise. Does it glorify God? Then, WHY put our minds and hearts there? The Lord brought us OUT of that world. Why do so many of us CHOOSE to keep a toe, finger, foot or hand in it because it may not be explicit or vulgar? That ONE song may not be, but what of every other song these artists sing? What are their mindsets and lives and spiritual states when creating the music they make? There are MANY artists who have come out and said they're on drugs, have made pacts with the evil one to gain skills, fame, notoriety, wealth in this industry. Many call on spirits to take over them so the experience goes beyond melody, tune or lyric.
      There's always more to what our eyes and ears can perceive.
      Let us ask for discernment and let the Lord instruct and guide us to every good deed and to doing His will and not ours.
      God bless you all! ❤

It started with Little House on the Praire(very moral based) and over the course of i guess 4 or 5 years it evolved little by little until we were Jean Claude Van Dam assault and shoot dozens of people at a time, cursing, and provocative women flaunting around. I 100 % believe in being balanced in our standards but by saying you think it should be allowed i believe your opening doors and creating and acceptance for weak Christians that can be catastrophic to thier spiritual life. Colossians 3:16
      [16]Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
      Songs should teach...They should be about God ( Jesus ), and they should be about a Christians way that we can relate to. They should warn ( admonish ). It should be about the Word of God that it builds upon our faith. It should glorify The Almighty! We may get a blessing listening to certain types of things.. but it should be about worshipping Him!
      Just as others here said...they are spirits in worldly music. When I got saved, there were some special things that happened to me. When I got the Holy Ghost that was part of the battle, I remember I was helping my Uncle ( Holy Ghost filled ) he was helping me out. We had went out of town, I had just started going to Church and had been going to the Alter. He took me, so if he bought a truck, I could drive the other vehicle home. We'll he did and I was driving alone. And I had been trying to clear my mind of things, so I was trying to listen to gospel music. But we was out of town and I didn't know any stations and I remember trying to search the radio. And the devil trying to get me to listen to the other. Well finally we was getting close to home and I picked up the old time southern gospel. Thank God! It was such a struggle that night and now I know why! Because God filled me with the Holy Ghost!!! Never forget the song was Gathered around the family table by: The Lewis family!
      Then the next thing was I was in service and that night God poured a blessing upon me tremendously and I dance in The Spirit for the first time....well when I got home I was feeling good. Until, I could since a bad spirit and I could not shake it. I RAN TO MOTHER AND FATHERS HOUSE AND WE PRAYED UNTIL I FINALLY FELL ASLEEP IN THE FLOOR...
      BUT IN THE MORNING JUST ABOUT DAWN, WITH OUT EVEN THINKING. I ROLLED A BARREL DOWN TO MY HOUSE AND I BEGAN TO PUT ALL MY CD'S, TAPES AMONG OTHERS IN THAT BARREL AND SET IT ON FIRE AND BURNED IT ALL!!!
      Don't know how much money I spent on all that through the years and don't care! But I never had any more problems going back into that house again!!!
      The devil is looking to get in somehow. In our homes! In our lives. In our mind! In our heart! And he can do so by our eyes and ears and our feelings.
      We must guard our hearts! The eye is what we look at! The ear is what we listen to! Was not too long ago I thought about these things...what better way can satan get to people than to their emotions? Songs get to our emotions and can make us vu❤lnerable

But, what can you say? Their General Superintendent said it was okay. But, what if their Pastor says otherwise? It still doesn’t change the fact that the organizational authority above their Pastor said it was okay.
      In short, it’s already created issues. Not only that, it’s an extremely liberalized and spiritually lukewarm take. If he wants to give a personal opinion, go ahead and give it. He just needs to specify that because this video does NOT speak for the movement, I can promise you that.

    No Christian should listen to secular music. Whatever oppressive and unclean spirit that song was written under, it will then subject the listener to being open to it. For instance, depression, suicidal spirit, lust, new age curiosity, addiction etc. I came out of the world 7 years ago after having grown up in the church. Secular music was step one to the world. If it does not glorify God, then it has no business entering into the temple (our body) that has been built by God, for God.

    The lyrics may not have immorality or evil words but also give a thought about the composer. It is coming from his heart when he is in a state of fantasy or focussed on a woman or world or his/problems. Check the root. Anything that does not come from the composers right state of mind can never be healthy to a Christian to listen to it. Right standing with the Lord produce its own different fruits and those fruits gloify His name.

While so called "Christian Music", that doesn't give Jesus Glory or even mentions him by Name, while so many other artist have sung very Powerful, Uplifting, and Loving songs that lifts up our God but are not considered Christian artist/songs. Bro. Benard has got this Correct ! Excellent job ❤

    Praise The Lord I appreciate Bishop Bernard comments. I am Afro -American. I am from Motown Detroit. I grew listening to secular music. I got saved at 13 years old. My first pastor in Apostolic was from Clinton Street Greater Bethlehem Temple the church Bishop S. N. Hancock pastored many years. The music was rich. Sister Moton was the musician there aĺong with others. There were great singers there also. I don' t listen to secular music probably because my parent were not Apostolic. I listened to station WMUZ 103.5 FM . They played both White & Black Gospel Music.. l like the song by the Blue Notes " Woke Up " Thank you Bishop Bernard for being transparent.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

    I agree, as a musician it is told to eat sleep the music with the instrument you are talented to play. As a guitarist I struggled to find gospel guitar players that played my style. I ended up listing to Stevie ray Vaughan, and Bb King. I agree that a healthy balance is important. But when I listen to these artists, I enjoy the instrument playing, the licks and riffs.

    The apostolic church really was operating in the spirit of truth when preaching against tv and worldly music back in the old days. Now we all know these people in Hollywood sacrifice to baal and traffic children and it’s written in their music, they’ve been telling us all along. Our apostolic churches saw right through this not knowing the full scope of what is really happening yet the Holy Spirit lead them in wisdom. It’s funny because now we’re seeing the worldly people opening their eyes to the truth that this music and Hollywood is bad! It’s all over X people talking about it. If they only would have listened from the beginning. BE APOSTOLIC

    First and foremost we cannot ignore scripture. We also don't know what kind of music David in the Bible played for Saul to soothe his mind. Likely something mellow...it wasn't Amazing Grace.
    Think it depends on a person's background too. I grew up in church and secular music didn't mean the same thing to me as it did to my friends that were won to God later in life. They would say no and are very convicted about secular music because it brings up memories attached to their old lifestyle. I even know people that associate certain beats and rhythms as "the club" - similar to concerts etc. I didn't have their same experience but to not offend, be a stumbling block I try to be considerate. One hundred percent agree that your spirit will lead and guide you. Also, unfortunately, many secular artists/musicians, even classical, had questionable or even blatantly wrong lifestyles.... but hey King David, a musician, was an adulterer and murderer (that repented) so.....

I played music from all genres. From heavy metal to bluegrass. So it's not the style I have a problem with, it's just simply I do not feel the Lord in it. I can however name a few songs that don't glorify sin at all and in fact warn against such things as drug and alcohol use yet are not from any particular Christian label or artist. Johnny Cash's Burning Ring of Fire for example, or Walk the Line are good examples. There is no swearing in them at all and a very good message about staying away from drugs and alcohol. This isn't just about getting to heaven, it's about being sensitive to the Spirit and able to hear His voice when He speaks. And if you've experienced walking in that level of anointing where you can be used of God, there is no secular music worth giving it up for.

    • @MichaelHines-d1x
      @MichaelHines-d1x 5 дней назад +3

      Yes sir. That is why I talked about the questions. Who are the people who are even thinking about that? Who is asking the questions? The next thing you know we will see so called Christian Rap music.
      I am 44 years old. I have played music since age of 8. I also played in the club also. Music is coming into the Pentecostal church which should not be here. I have witnessed at some of our meetings. I will not call the names out but I am hearing music that is Bruno Mars , Michael Jackson etc music. And they are now making our stages dark just like the false churches have done for decades. So different kinds of music has penetrated the Apostolic Church and we have to abstain from the very appearance of evil.
      The Bible tells us to sing spiritual hymns making melody to the Lord. We have Holyghost radio etc . When the Church does this that’s when we see people getting out of wheel chairs, blind eyes coming open but it does not matter how much faith we as ministers have if the people start opening themselves to even so called non sinful music. If we want to see the demonstration of the Spirit we must walk in the Spirit . And I find that to be very enjoyable.
      The answer should be a resounding No. what did Paul say if he who is weak in the faith see your liberty he may go and do the same and fall. Shut it down and keep it moving.

    • @MichaelHines-d1x
      @MichaelHines-d1x 5 дней назад +2

      And yes you are correct on the part about birthday songs etc. But that’s not being played by an artist in our homes either. The devil will start good and then once we get caught up listening to the artist another door will be open. Johnathan McReynolds is a perfect example. He sings gospel and secular songs. So the wisdom God showed me is listen to none of his music. There is something in man that seeks to turn us around and suddenly it will get caught up on a certain artist and suddenly the flesh does not care whether it’s secular non sinful or secular sinful. It will demand for what it wants and that’s what we have to avoid.

      And he cometh and findeth them sleeping said unto Peter, Simon sleepeths thou? Could you not watch for one hour ? Mark 14:37
      If the saints have not reached the point where we can even spend an hour in prayer. That’s before reading. How do we have time for these other things?
      Vs 38 Watch and pray lest ye enter into temptation
      That’s the problem. We are blessed , pride starts showing up, the prayer life dies and the flesh comes alive and then the church cannot recognize certain temptations.
      We act like the devil is already chained to the bottom less pit. No he is still presenting forbidden fruit.
      We should be asking what can I do to become more spiritual. Instead the people only can think about I can I become more carnal without sinning. Sounds like Solomon marrying strange wives. Did he bow down right away ? No it took at 20 years but one day something showed up in his heart and it whipped him

    God is a Holy and jealous God who has called us to come out from among them and be ye separate. Without Holiness no man shall see God. This video is a doctrine of devils, the so called church is trying to conform to the world and not to Christ. It will lead many people to a devils hell and the so called pastors, preachers, ministers that are deceiving millions will give account for the blood of every soul they lead astray.
