- Just a bit of fun rather than a serious competition, but it was nice for 'Jim' our Nissan Sunny Estate to be noticed by Richard Usher, the owner of the Great British Car Journey as a true 'survivor' car. #classiccar #classiccars #nissansunny #nissan #petrolhead #carmeet #carshows
I've never seen a Toyota Sera before. First I was thinking it's a facelift of a Nissan 100NX but then I also wondered about the scissor doors. Cool cars for sure - and so many at just one place!
So true about the Sunny - it's a rare car but no one cares. But this makes it also such a great entry into the classic car scene. It is a car everyone can remember and it was also quite popular (perhabs not the estate - but the saloon and the hatchback also already disappeared). Such normal people cars are also not too expensive to maintain. I bet it won't ever be as expensive like my X-Type has been in two months, haha. So when people do fear about older cars then I'd recommend such kind of a classic which is a normal people's car. Rare but everyone will remember it ... and in your case you can even win an award with it! But I must also say the Sunny is also in such a great condition!
The Corolla from the 90s is also one of such vehicles. Haven't seen one for ages! Very popular in the old days. Even my brother had one of these with these cute round headlamps. For sure also not a too expensive car if you can still find one. It's not one of these exclusive expensive cars but still it is a car that appears and you're thinking "wow, when I've seen the last one of it?" ... oh and by the way, I was just watching a video of idriveclassic about the Festival of the Unexpected and this Corolla was also over there (same license plate at 30:04). I couldn't spot your car but well the lady told there were 2,000 cars.
Also the Mitsubishi Colt. Has been such a popular car over here. Not as popular as the Corolla but also something you did see quite often. This won't happen so soon again since Mitsubishi closed so many dealerships over here. And the current Colt is a re-badged Renault Clio. This won't make it become too popular I guess. You won't buy a French car with a Japanese badge and think "what a cool Mitsubishi".
I heard about these Mitsuoka cars but I've never seen one. It is kind of cool and awkward at the same time.
The red Toyota Carina II is also bringing back some memories. My brother also had one also in red and this liftback version. Very nice! He was missing his car. Very reliable but once the head gasket had a problem and he still got great money for it at an export trader who was going to bring it to Africa.
Beautiful Mitsubishi Sapporo! I also agree about the American style of it.
Oh, Mitsubishi Starion. Also a very rare car ... I can remember I've seen one of them in last year. But it was the first after lots of years. And haven't seen since then.
I am actually amazed about your Nissan Sunny - also when seeing all the feedback about it. I guess you didn't expect it when you bought it. And I am just thinking that in beginning of the year I almost got myself one of these old Mazda 323 BG saloons also from the 90s. It probably could have been cheaper than the Jag, haha. But well, the Jag has meant to be a daily retro car ... the 323 could have been a second 30 y/o classic. It's also of course a difference if you're driving 6,000 miles on every day in the year or just a few hundred miles during the summer time.
Cool show and congratulations to the trophy! What an unexpected experience with an old Nissan Sunny estate!
Thanks Sven - yes, it was a great practice run for the Festival of the Unexceptional which I am just editing now. Such a long day yesterday - quite tired today - but it was great if a bit chaotic organisation with no signs to tell people where to go - we spent 40 minutes driving around with other old cars trying to find the entrance!!! Anyway - a great experience. Not sure whether to put the video out straight away - but then every other RUclipsr has done that so I might just relax and do it at my leisure!!!
@@OldCarsNewVan Ouch, 40 minutes only spent in driving around to find the entrance is a nightmare. But at least finally you found it to get to see all these 2,000 cars, hehe.
No matter if you're firing out the video straight away or if you're taking your time to relax and do it on your leisure ... for sure I am looking forward to see what you got in front of the lense.
I just noticed a thumbnail of a video from an unknown channel (to me) called Lloyd Vehicle Consulting that your Sunny made it into the thumbnail regarding the Festival of the Unexceptional part 5 of 9 ... very long part of 31 minutes. I'll need some time to watch it - not today, haha - watch?v=eRFfszLcm2M but cool someone took your car for the thumbnail.
@@BFDdrives yes indeed - I spotted that too!!! You also see a 'For Sale' sign in the window!!!! Don't worry, it didn't sell and I'm actually pleased it didn't!!!
@@OldCarsNewVan LOL, haven't noticed it - the thumbnail is still too small for my eyes and I didn't yet watch it. Will need some more time. I just did reply to the comments that I received in the last couple of days. So for now I will also switch off the pc ... have a nice rest of the evening and a great night.
Never seen so many Sera in one place before. A good turnout. Like you i've seen plenty of mk2 Jag Micra's but never this Ryoga before. Mitsouka are still building cars.
My sister had a Starion when they were new.
Well done on winning an award.
Cheers Glyn - it was a good trial run for today. Just got back as left a little early to avoid the queues - brill day but my goodness they could do with improving their logistics. Absolutely no signs directing classic cars, opened half an hour late etc etc - it was a bit chaotic!!!
@@OldCarsNewVan I know from previous shows how busy it looks and how long it takes to get into the festival of the unexpected. I think the tickets last year were £25 no matter how much i would like to go i'm not paying that but i see this years tickets are £35. Ridiculous. Then you have the petrol costs on top and it becomes an expensive day and i can do a lot more with that money like eat. I know the nec car shows are just as bad but unless i really , really want to go i'm not paying that being a true Yorkshireman. Everything is so expensive now and i know people say thats what things cost now but i think some people are just greedy. A lot of country houses i wont visit a show to pay £20pp for the privilege of parking on their lawn.
@@TipTopMotors. Overall I'm glad I went - because I've never been before. BUT - I agree, £35 is taking the .......... - after all, the cars we go in are the show - without us, they'd be no show. So yes.....as well as being chaotic it was overpriced - my judgement on what I saw today is that greed is playing a part and that circa £15 would be more realistic for classic car attendance. I might go next year....if I still have the Nissan....but only if it is accepted in the competition. If not, I don't think I'll bother. 10 years I think it's on the downward trajectory
