EDIT 3: Another performance patch has massively improved frame rates!
EDIT 2: First stability and performance patch is live. It's better than the footage above, but still not perfect. They've assured us they're bringing another very soon that also tweaks AI. Mark
EDIT: Curve have just messaged me on Twitter - there is a performance patch coming next week!! Does this scratch the GTA itch? in many ways it does, but some of the performance is so bad on Nintendo Switch - what do you think of releasing in that state? Does it do more harm than waiting for it to run correctly then releasing? Mark
Hmm might have to rewatch Shawshank Redemption after this.

There's something really satisfying about a polished game (mario odyssey) and something really frustrating about a glitchy game (skyrim). Does the content and gameplay outweigh the glitches? Not with this game I think.
If they patch the issues - it will be an instant buy for me.

Agreed on both counts, I think. If it were pixel art, I feel like it would have been in direct competition with Shakedown: Hawaii but as it stands, they feel like very different games.
I am extremely impressed with how competent this game is. The physics on small objects, the little trails your car leaves behind, the particle effects when you hit bushes or trees, they literally had NO reason to go this hard but they did and I feel their love for the GTA franchise. The perspective is serving GTA: Chinatown Wars too so the nostalgia factor is there.
Totally worth $15
Performance will get better. It runs fine in handheld which is the only way I use my Switch.
Don't count on patches to fix performance in every game, especially these budget titles, and double especially single player budget titles. Not saying they won't get some performance out of this particular game, but I've got plenty of them that never saw any post release support whatsoever. It's best to ask yourself if you can handle it as it is at release and take any fixes as a bonus.

Rockstar neeeed to develop a Switch exclusive GTA title. I wouldn't mind if they went the CTW route of this kind of perspective/art style, or they could do a dumbed down over the shoulder perspective, like the PSP Stories games were back in the day. It would sell so well.

Has been in my backlog for ages but finally getting to it, and it puts a huge smile on my face everytime I play. Amazes me how such small studios put out something so special, and when on sale only for a few pounds/dollars. I hope it was profitable to make as it deserves to be. Roughly half way through, but such a fun game. Love losing the cops

It's funny to watch this review now, as all cons have been adressed in various patches. Nice game, nice devs.
This is an useful comment since I've stopped watching the review after first few minutes with the fear of the game being spoiled. Good to know the review highlighted some issues and they were fixed.

Looks really good to me visually. Needs refining in some game mechanics to make it more intense.

Your review definitely convinced me to buy the game. Hope they come out with some good dlc for it, would be dope if maybe somehow we can add our own music or something to the driving portions. But gameplay is what i care the most about, and it does look pretty dope. My only hope is maybe some story dlc or possibly 4-8 player mp deathmatch

Great review, as always. The one thing that bothers me is the American slapped in front of it. American Kickboxer, American Samurai, American, American Cyborg, American Sniper, American Beauty, American Gangster, American Psycho, American this, American that. So tired of titles like that. Besides, there are 195 or so countries in the world, so why does 99% of all games take place in the US? (if they take place in the real world, anyway.)

I feel like we need an upgrade in the switch like a slightly more modern GPU because I really want to play these new games and it's like the switch cant even run it's own games I love the switch it is my favorite system of all time I just feel like the slow down is unacceptable because the game looks smashing awesome review. As alwasy. You guys are my go to switch channel.

It really does - I’m quite surprised here, as Curve are normally on point. The performance is also not great on PS4 by all accounts so it could be an engine this possibly? Mark
Will wait to see if the Tuesday update fixes the issues. For now, in the watch list boot it goes.

I think if they would’ve pushed it out a couple weeks and smoothed out some of these issues then the game would have received less of a bad reputation. I will personally have to wait for a deeper sale and for the game to be fixed, as I’m still waiting for My Time At Portia and a couple of other games I have purchased to be optimized to play

If they get the performance worked out I’d definitely pick this up. As it stands it would have to be on a pretty good sale for me to pick it up. Looks fun though so hopefully patches are coming

Just bought this for £3 on PS4 thanks to your review. Looks like a lot of fun and content for that price and reading your replies it seems to have been patched long ago. Made up.
Looks great fun tbh but I'll force myself to wait, I've had enough of buying games and hoping patches come. if it gets patched and has a better performance then I'll buy, but not until then.

Lack of analog throttle with pro controller kinda sucks. Also steering is sooo touchy. Played much better on pc with Xbox controller. Needs more option settings
So a slightly more realized 2d top down view of thief sim booth are only 2$right now but idk if id even play them

Review the state of emergency update adds the military and new. Weapons and vehicles and mew challenges the trailer looks amazing
I found it to be a poor mans GTA and the performance really lets it down. I think it’s also a bit too slow paced, the on foot movement is a real drag. I’ve played it for about 3 hours now, maybe it’ll pick up...
It is definitely a slower paced game - I play in a way that kind of lends to that so perhaps that’s why. I tend to drive carefully and spend time literally watching houses until i can get the owner. In that regard I’m not the typical GTA player and in a game like this where it’s a little slower - I have more fun. Mark

This game is hilarious.
If they ever'd add a Multiplayer I'd get it instantly.
Bought this but stuck on an early mission as I have to kill some enemies but they always get stuck in geometry so I cannot actually kill them. Tried the mission about 10 times and bugs always cause issues. Also been shot by a corpse. Not impressed with the controls either. It has potential but is currently a buggy mess.
In an update, tried more times to complete the mission and no use. Enemies continue to be stuck in geometry so cannot complete the mission. Actually just complained directly to Nintendo over it. Should never of passed QA, this one.

I'm referring more on the bug/performance aspect, but thanks for the update on the update. I prefer better performance than lots of content
After playing Saint's Row for the first time on Switch, I've gotta say that although the game has a lot of content, the main missions are really difficult without gyro aiming. I still haven't passed the Genki mission after playing several times, and the sniping mission from the helicopter, which I also haven't passed, is extremely difficult without the gyro too. Also, the performance patch still didn't fix the frame rate issues in handheld and there's still button lag when sprinting. I realize I could activate the cheats, but I heard that once you remove them, the stats in the game get messed up and don't calculate after activating/deactivating the cheats. The top down view in American fugitive obviously alleviates the need for gyro aiming. The only rub for me is no mini-map. I could care less about the radio stations. Based on the video review of American Fugitive, I'm thinking I may purchase it just to take the sting out of buying Saint's Row, regardless of the 15-hour game length. It sounds especially enticing considering there's a patch on Tuesday to fix the performance issues. Just my two cents.

The slight stuttering isn't a problem but they still need to put a lot of work into it.
Missing audio, performance here and there, glitches (Body movement and stuff after riding a horse/llama is bugged as hell) but we still have a ton of fun.
They haven't answered my email with a list of bugs and stuff and a date when we can expect another patch but I am hoping for the best. It's just a shame that the pc version is so much better than console, which is running an older build with missing features.
