    Hard to beat the authentic feel of a Paycheck song! What makes this song even more real is that Johnny went to prison for attempted murder after a glancing shot to a guy's head. Some just talk the talk, but some live it.

      @David Emswiler Yeah, that's nuts about Johnny doing this song and it being somewhat of a revelation of what may have taken place in his mind.

    Wow I’ve never heard that song before that’s a super dark song but it does hit Some parts of life and what people may be going through but it is kind of funny how calm he is and he’s like excuse me but I’ve got someone to kill that’s crazy but brilliant at the same time for the song

    This is a pretty shocking murder ballad realistically conveyed by one of the greatest country talents who ever lived. This song was recorded during Johnny's sojourn in the 60's with the Little Darlin' record label and many would reckon that he recorded his best material during that period. His recording of "Apartment #9" is a case in point and it features the fantastic steel playing of Lloyd Greene. Thanks again for another well-argued reaction/rating, Don, and keep rockin' dat country, hoss.

    The last outlaw will always be close to my heart, and the feel I get from Mr Paycheck, wow. I picture him stood at the saloon door, with a revolver in his holster, talking to his friend sat at the bar stool before he gallops away on his stallion up to the ranch, before he takes place in his arm chair next to the window waiting with a double barrel shotgun, for his lover and her new love to come home and as soon as they walk in, with no expression, he pulls that trigger of the shotgun

    Thanks for playing this one as it was one I had suggested as well to get your reaction. Johnny was quite a character and his early stuff on the Little Darlin' label are his best. I suggest Jerry Lee Lewis "She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye."

    I was gonna send this to you but I thought it was a little harsh. Luckily I've never had my heart broken. I usually run them off first. Its cool you did this song. Paycheck is one of my favorites. My favorite of all times is Jerry Lee Lewis. Mainly his country stuff. Glad to see your having fun with surrogate daughter. Good to be able to spend some time with people you like & that like you. Now I'm off to work man

      @Joe Skinner It was a blast heaving her here doing these with me. She's not comfortable on camera, which made it that much more enjoyable for me. Ha! Lex's comment about this song being like an episode of Dateline was hilarious--I never would have thought of that, but she was right!

    Have you done Lyle Lovett “The Lights of LA County”? If not please do. It is another murder ballad but as only Lyle could do. Your comments about the rating made me think of the Despair.com demotivator poster on “Dysfunction - the only consistent feature of all your failed relationships is you.” OUCH!

    Hi Don. It’s time to revisit Willy Tea Taylor. Specifically his song “Chickamauga”. I have long been a big fan of TC and CW, but this song has recently become my favourite song. Poignant story of the civil war’s “Battle of Chickamauga”. Cheers!

      @David I love Willy's stuff, but I've been blocked at least once so I stay away after that. I think I have one reaction of Willy's that was successful, but getting blocked once usually means getting blocked again.

    The last 2 songs you did that I listened to I gave the same rating as you. What I can't stand is bluegrass or folk music. Like Peter, Paul & Mary or Joan Baez. I love soul music. When I was overseas I had a lot of black friends & thats all we listened to.

    • @davidemswiler4351
      @davidemswiler4351 4 года назад +2

      Ouch...no bluegrass...that almost hurts! I agree with you on Peter, Paul & Mary and Joan Baez, but you really don't like Ralph Stanley, Allison Krauss and Union Station, Ricky Skaggs etc.? Even Bill Monroe, who some call the father of bluegrass was applauded for his incorporation of blues and jazz into old timey mountain pickin'.
