Spent a couple of months in Thailand in 1973 when I was 17yrs old did a lot of crazy stuff cause the Americans took RR there, miss those days but good memories, thank for the film and taking time to post it. Been back 6 times since but not same in most respects, but maybe my memory enhances the old days, still great food though.
I'm Thai and was born in Bangkok yrs 1979, thank you for good clip, i never seen before❤🇹🇭

It’s nice to see in the comments from Thai people that they enjoyed this. My first visit was 12 years ago and I’ve been back over 10 times. Although I’m white and tall, I feel more at home in Thailand than any other country.
This is a vlog even before the term vlog was made 😊

Exactly
Thanks for the video. I was also in Bangkok in 1976. However, I only had a still camera.
It seems these days that everyone and his dog has been to Thailand, but it was totally different 30 or 40 years ago. My first visit to Thailand was in 1987 - 11 years after your visit - but even then it was regarded as a 'frontier' destination. I had to use a specialist travel agent in the UK to arrange flights and hotels because regular travel agents didn't deal with Thailand. In 1987 I believe about 3 million tourists visited Thailand, but many were from Asian countries and there were very few farangs. Samui was completely deserted with just coconut trees and no airport or electricity, and Pattaya was completely different to how it is today. Bangkok was on just one level without any expressways or railway lines above ground. As you visited in 1976 you will have observed even greater changes. It's amazing how quickly places can change.
1987 or 2530 BE was the year that Tourism Authority of Thailand launched campaign "Amazing Thailand". For sure the first express way in BKK has been constructed quite some time already before 1987. Pattaya has been filled with farang since the beginning but of course Samui and Phuket were different stories. I visit Patong beach in Apr 1987 and don't remember there was rarely beer bar.
Around that time, also not much asian tourist. only the prospect could be the Japanese coincident with their economic boom and they came to thailand for golfing but from somewhere I red much of the asians tourist were the malaysian who cross the border to nightlife tour in Hadyai. There's still no mainland chinese wave of tourist like in the recent years and all the neighboring countries still not interest to come to Thailand.
In my own experience , even in 1993 Koh Chang was still very pristine . I stay a few nights in the bamboo cottage among the long stay farang at White sand Beach for just 50฿ a night. Now all the bamboo cottages disappears.
@@kittenastrophy5951 That's right. 1987 was the year of the King's 60th birthday (5th cycle) and the 'Amazing Thailand' campaign was launched as part of the celebration. There was a big 'Visit Thailand' event held at London's Barbican Centre that year, which I attended. On Samui in 1987 there were just bamboo huts on the beach with a single light bulb powered by small generators - around Bt100 per night. Ho hotels, no airport, no mains electricity, lots of coconut palms. You are also right about the Malaysian tourists visiting Hat Yai - that is where I live. Quite a few Singaporeans visit as well. Thailand has changed beyond recognition in the last 30 years.
Nice video sir! You have earned a new subscriber! (40k I believe) :D
I had agree with you.
thank you so much
this is awesome!!
Ich mag diese Clip und das findet es Super.
ขอบคุณ ที่นำมาแชร์์ครับ
I think you were going in the direction of Cha-am? I figured this out by the salt farm along the highway. These farms haven't changed until today, though Petchkasem Rd. has grown to 4 lanes per side with an island separation between the two directions. Thank you for this upload. Reminds me of Bangkok when I was there in 1977.
Wow.. last time travel is expensive.. btw thx for the video.. and thx share kuala lumpur video...

Great film! So much nicer than video. So, you had a super-8 camera with sound? I love seeing all those things that can't be found anymore, including the shot of the open cockpit in the plane! :)
Nice View
Wow, it’s already big city even in 1976.
Wow Amazing
Better than now
Welcome to the Land of Smiles.
In 1976 yes. Today, not.
Das war sehr interessant. Heute ist leider nicht mehr so. Schöne Grüße von Kambodscha.

สุดยอด
the year my wife was born in Bangkok. thanks
❤
Surprising looks quite up to date for the times modern cars, not bad buildings Bangkok.
That's the year I was born!
VHS rules! So nostalgic ❤️🤩
This is my birth year.
I have traveled around the world. And the place that I chose to go again is Bangkok .
What's the road depicted in the video at 2:49? Looks like it could be some highway out of Bangkok. Now, whichever highway that is, it's probably about 10 lanes wide (6 middle lanes, plus 4 frontage road lanes, 2 on each side). Can't believe that only a little over 40 years ago, there were just 2 lanes! Incredible pace of change between then and now.
Seems to be the Rama II HW (HW 35) heading westward to Phetchaburi and passing Samut Songkram. Then you see the field that use to baking the salt water for producing the salt grain on the roadside which hasn't been changed until now.
so classic
beeindruckende bilder
