We, North Indians, have a much lighter skin tone than the south Indians, who are much more in number in US and other western countries & thus, world believes that all Indians look like South Indians, which is not the case. I stumbled upon this video by accident. I guess "dark skin" is relative because as far as I can tell all three girls looked to be about the same complexion. I'm African American and in my culture she would definitely not be considered dark. I've seen Sri Lankans, Aborigines and people of African descent with darker skin than the main character. Having dark skin is nothing to be ashamed of or a reason to tease people. I have relatives who have a deep complex about their skin from being made fun of. Dark skin is pretty and is like having a natural anti aging component built into one's skin. People with more melanin age beautifully; their skin doesn't tend to wrinkle as quickly or as much as whiter skinned individuals. I love having darker skin; I love it when people think I am younger than what I am. I'm team melanin all the way!

I usually enjoy most of your videos, but here is some constructive criticism for this particular one. I admire your creative narration through poetry to describe the preference for light skin beauties in the Indian diaspora, but your effort falls short on several accounts. Firstly, it was sad to see the main girl overcome her insecurities about her dark skin only through the presence or acceptance of the opposite gender. This gives the false message to young Indian women that the only way to be confident under their own skin, is for them to attract a male. Without one, they must resort to beauty products to make themselves feel prepossessing. Secondly, I found it ironic that the main “dark skin” girl was wearing more make up throughout the video than her “light skin” counterparts. The entire notion of the video falls apart when ultimately the girl who wears the most make-up is able to find contentment in her physical appearance through the validation of a male’s approval. In the end, I understand that this video for entertainment purposes only and I commend your effort in comedic film.
