COMMENT: Do you believe that it’s a good or a bad thing that the Disney Family no longer has a direct hand in the creative direction of the company?

My dad took my brother and I to Disneyland in 1975. It was one of my best memories of my childhood. We’re from Australia. It was wonderous!!!!

My childhood (primary school/elementary school years) has a lot of Disney memories: what I shall call the 90's Disney. Video cassette tapes of a lot of the Disney movies. I find 90's Disney very nostalgic for me. FYI - I grew up in South Africa, so haven't ever been to any of the Disney theme parks. My first memory of Disney was the movie The Lion King - though I also have recollections of Mickey Mouse and that crowd at the time as well, though at the time, I wasn't aware that Mickey Mouse was part of the whole Disney company as well - that only clicked a couple of years later. I wasn't aware/knew of The Mickey Mouse Club either - I get the idea that this wasn't shown in South Africa in all the time it's been around (could be wrong about this though) - and probably only became aware of it in the early to mid 2000's.
Here's my own personal opinion of the Disney company: because of the time period I grew up in, I'm always going to prefer the 90's (animated) Disney. I know that Disney as a company has to evolve and all to carry on, and that technology has also changed tremendously since the 90's - I still miss the animated versions of Disney (the movies anyways). I know that this isn't going to be a popular opinion with the younger generations, but personally I'm not a fan of what Disney is now (TV show/channel wise). The Disney channel in the 90's was still fairly ok, but for me - since about 2005/2006 - it definitely hasn't been my cup of tea, and yes, I was at the end of my high school years in that period, so yes, the Disney Channel at that stage and the age group it was catering to definitely would not have appealed to me. It felt like the programming that was starting to come out during that period, and mostly from then on seemed very over the top. Again, I am aware that the programs coming out at that stage wasn't catering to my age group. And yes - this last paragraph will definitely not be popular with the younger generations.
Another very brief reference I want to make - not Disney related - is another two channels that I was also into during the late 90's - early 2000's: Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. I was one of those who watched programs like Dexter's Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, Rugruts, Hey Arnold, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Johnny Bravo, Ed, Edd and Eddy, Cow and Chicken, and Catdog. The only other program I've seen bits and pieces of that I sort of liked (out of all the channels I've mentioned) - is Nickelodeon's iCarly.
Last thought/question before I sign off: is there any (good) biography of Walt Disney/Disney company that is slightly more in depth? Seeing this video has made me want to dive more into the history of this iconic company.

I think it is a good thing but a learning lesson. It's not the Disney's anymore, Disney needs to find a CEO who is more like Walt.

I grew up watching Walt and the original Mickey Mouseketeers. It was so warm and cozy. Today´s "Disney" corporation turns out nothing that´s warm and cozy. It´s ice-cold business and has made the rapacious organization have the reputation of a mafia. If any of the family members can restore half of the warm´heartedness in the beginning, allow them to do so. And you can shove the allegations against my childhood idol, haters.

Creativity is very subjective, it does flow through bloodlines can also but skip generation or so, comes from deep within imagination and cannot be taught or defined it's there in you or it is not, so one cannot comment on somebody's children grand children having that creative legacy unless their created work shows it like Walt Disney's does after all he knew whom to pick for his creative team and result is there for all to see, same way contribution of his brother Roy as accounts person head of finances was/ is very very important, creatives can runaway with their imaginations sometimes wanting to create and budgets getting tossed

It’s a travesty that Disney is just so PC, tepid and boring. I couldn’t tell you one thing they’ve made in the last few years. Among the animation community, Disney is now a dirty word. Absolute travesty.

The Disney family is enjoying the fruits and hard work, vision of Walt. The Disney Company has strayed far and wide from it and its in serious trouble now. I hope they survive.

many poor decisions by walt disney himself, in my opinion. he made alot of dark stuff, dealing with witches and sorcery and ghosts. not things that should have been marketed to children, and he did it at a time when america was still innocent. making him one who contibuted to the demise of the country. not everything the man or company did was bad, but it must be pointed out that he did some bad stuff and the company continues to do some bad stuff. now the company leaders are obsessed with PC stuff and its nauseating. i wont be going back to dinsey parks, and havent gone in 40 years

IMO wokeness at Disney is inevitable for 2 reasons: 1) to counterbalance Walt Disney's early Nazi sympathies, and 2) because wokeness means Disney characters can appeal to a wider audience of people worldwide which is good business.

Thank you for this video: Walt Disney is a main inspiration of my old money style. Now I think a complement of this video on what make Walt Disney a old money icon would be interesting: His values, his dressing style, his manners.

Please disregard the Nazi in the previous comment log. And no, I don't believe that the Disney family should have a hand in the creative process. Sometimes the genius of a great grandfather, does not get passed on by the family genes. There's an old saying I believe Theodore Roosevelt made, 'Hire good people, and stay out of their way while doing their job.' Let me add to that, the person in charge does have the right and responsibility to approve the creative process. Good luck to the Disney company and family.
