    Certainly love the boss was able to tell something was wrong with Solila with a poor choice of words and looking into her face.

      Yeah, Zalilak is a pretty compelling character so far. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.
      It'll be interesting to see what they do with Shockwave in this universe. There's a pretty solid tradition of him being a force to be reckoned with across the Marvel/Dreamwave/IDW continuities and, personally, I'd like to see that continue, but I definitely want Skybound to put their own spin on it so it feels unique and fresh.

    This issue really through a curveball to my expectations. You've probably noticed Megatron is conspicuously absent from all the promotion for the Energon Universe and there's no sign of him. My big theory was that unlike in G1 he stayed behind while Optimus and everyone else left in the Ark and without Optimus or Starscream to get in his way he was able to conquer Cybertron.
    But here we get our first look at Cybertron in the universe and we see that's not the case at all.
    So the question of where Megatron is in the universe deepens even more.

      What happened to Megatron is a big question for me as well, especially since the cover to Cobra Commander #1 shows C.C. holding a gun that looks suspiciously like the Decepticon leader's alt-mode...if that is in fact Megatron -- what's the story there!?

    • @tomhur1
      @tomhur1 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@Moonbase3 That actually might be proof of the other big theory I had. That Megatron fell off the ark when it crashed(Similar to Animated) and he's in the captivity of Cobra. The major clue for me is the fact we see the ark in the background of the Cobra Commander Cover.

      I like it! I think you could be on to something. Yeah, I could see them potentially going with something like that. Definitely when you consider the imagery on the cover. I really like the idea of leaving Megatron somewhat subdued and in the shadows like in Animated. If they took their time and really built up to his return, I'd be pretty happy.

    Can't wait to see what war crimes Shockwave is gonna commit this time! That's my GOAT! (IDW version anyway)
    In all seriousness I enjoy how they're not really leaning on the Transformers Universe too much, I enjoy having the connection but I'm actually starting to get sucked into the Void Rivals aspect of the comic. I do agree, I wish we got different designs on the characters. I don't mind G1 inspired designs but not when they're nearly the exact same.

    • @Moonbase3
      @Moonbase3  9 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, I'm pretty invested in the Void Rivals part of it, but I'm enjoying seeing what Transformers stuff they pull into the issues, too. I'm really curious to see what's in store in terms of the long game...I'm hoping that it'll run for a while. The first arc is shaping up nicely, and I'd like to see it grow into a full-blown saga.

      I really want to see Arcee as a small, red motorcycle in this Universe.

      @Moonbase3  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing them mix it up with the character designs/alt modes a little. As for Arcee, specifically, my favorite iteration of her is from Prime.

    I’m betting that the 2 races are simply pretending to be conflict in order to control their civilian population ala 1984.
    And I’m hoping the Shockwave teaser will hint at having a title that more Space opera like Season 3 cartoon/MTMTE and Lost Light.
    Maybe a book about characters who initially stayed behind but left after Shockwave took command, and they visit different planets to find energy resources.

    • @Moonbase3
      @Moonbase3  9 месяцев назад +3

      You could be on to something there! Looking forward to seeing how it all develops.
      And as for your suggestion of a space opera title - I really, really, really hope this is in the cards. I doubt they'd go this route, but personally, I'd love a "Lost Years" ongoing comic that fleshed out what the Transformers got up to in that 4 million year gap. If only Transformers 84 wasn't a limited series...
      Anyway, I digress. I definitely want to see the space opera side of things in the Energon Universe, because I think it's an essential part of the franchise. One with Shockwave in a main role would be icing on the cake!

    Nice to see ya back in action, and on my birthday no less!
    Cartoon Shockwave is permanently associated with the DR SMOOV clip from [checks RUclips, holy Jesus] 17 years ago, Shockwave’s Burden. Just a cavalcade of failure, and one that I quote pretty frequently.
    “Those bitches!”
    “This guy must be the worst shot in the galaxy.”
    Shockwave slander aside, the art is fantastic and the aesthetic worldbuilding seems on point. As for the alien names, at least you’re trying. As an avid Star Wars novel reader, I just completely make up a pronunciation that’s probably no where close to correct and hope their name never comes up in conversation 😂

      @Moonbase3  9 месяцев назад +2

      Happy birthday!
      I agree about the art and worldbuilding. The book just keeps getting better, in my opinion. And thanks for that about the names...I struggle sometimes. 🤣 Even sometimes in the medium of television where the names are pronounced out loud. I had a really hard time remembering all the names when I first started watching Game of Thrones, aside from the easy ones like Ned and Robert.
      And I was really close to throwing in a Dr Smoov reference in this video! I think that definitely still informs my opinion on cartoon Shockwave. 😂 "...I could hear *him* perfectly!"

    I like this series but The problem I have is that the transformers stuff and Void rivals stuff doesn’t feel like their meshing together. It doesn’t feel like this is “the energon universe” it feels like a Robert kirkman comic and on occasion a transformers reference or a transformer take over for a couple panels. I’m not saying it can’t work but I’m wondering what the “rivals” and transformers are going to have to do with one another once the story get started proper. Like from the preview we get at the end it looks like the transformers comic will be on earth so I’m not sure how their going to tie it together. Unless if the plan is to have the transformers series be the earth wars and have Void rivals be what’s going on cybertron. And even then it’s gonna get even weirder cause like aren’t GI joe and Cobra supposed to show up eventually?

    • @Moonbase3
      @Moonbase3  9 месяцев назад +1

      I hear what you're saying and, honestly, I've had some similar thoughts while reading Void Rivals. I like the story in Void Rivals enough on its own, which has helped since the Transformers references and cameos - while fun - have felt "separate" from the larger story unfolding with the Sacred Ring and the conspiracy there. I think Kirkman is doing a decent job folding these references into the immediate plot scenarios, but I would like to see a deeper integration of the two universes. I'm optimistic that we're building towards something like that - I'm thinking energon itself will play a key part in connecting these disparate worlds together, but we'll see.
      I think this issue was (potentially) a step towards more interconnectivity, with Skuxxoid and the Quintesson reappearing. Time will tell if it leads to something or was just a distinct one-off. Personally, I'm hoping the Transformers/GI Joe series will focus on the Earth stuff and Void Rivals (and any other new titles) will handle the space/Cybertron stuff.

    • @thedude4840
      @thedude4840 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@Moonbase3 I wouldn’t mind that actually. Earth transformers stuff is classic and is the soul of the series, but personally I’ve always loved the space opera and Star Trek stuff. Mtmte and lost light were my jam and if void rivals is going to be that kinda stuff I’d be down.

    • @Moonbase3
      @Moonbase3  9 месяцев назад

      Totally! Both components are, in my opinion, essential for any good Transformers fiction. And other than big events and crossovers, I'd prefer to see them stay focused on their respective settings. I really liked RiD "season 2" and the Optimus Prime series, but they sometimes jumped back and forth between Earth and Cybertron a little too frequently for my tastes.
      Anyway, we'll see how Skybound decides to handle it...I'm hoping for the best!
