      Tammy Yam My grandmother told my mom that my baby is a mistake and she’s so sorry for my child because I have a history of mental health issues and she thinks my daughter is going to be as “messed up” as I am. My mother stood up for me and reminded her my “issues” are because of trauma, not genetics...besides the ocd.

    This was after my mom had my little sister, but we are half white and half Mexican. Therefore, I came out looking a lot like my mom (white) and my little sister looks a lot like my dad (Mexican) when my mom would nurse my sister in public or when my dad would take me to the bathroom, they got tons of judgmental looks. My mom was once holding my sister and someone actually questioned weather or not it was my moms child while she was nursing. She got these questions so frequently she was once asked in the supermarket (where she had a towel over my sister whilst she was nursing) and the lady saw my sister was way darker than my mom and asked if me and my sister had the same father? My mother, sleep deprived and annoyed, told her I'm not sure...

    With my 5th child, my doctor told me I had to have an ultra-sound. I asked why, as I had never had one before. She looked at me and said------what if it doesn't have a head. Had the ultra-sound, head securely attached, got a new doctor.

    • @amykilbride9982
      @amykilbride9982 9 лет назад +3

      1- because when you stated I'm not 25 or in a relationship , just because you may not be 25 doesn't mean you can't/shouldn't be pregnant.
      Not every family needs a dad present for that child to be great . Your comment seemed as if that the only time a woman would or should get pregnant if she was over the age of 25 and in a relationship

    My top 5 things I can't handle (I'm 41 weeks pregnant right now):
    "Where is the baby??" (What kind of question is that?)
    "When is the baby coming?" (How am I supposed to know?)
    "Are you driving to the hospital yet?" (What?)
    "Have you tried _______ to induce labor?" (There's nothing wrong with me, and yes, I have heard of all the old wives tales regarding induction.)
    AH! Make it stop!

    Personal favorite was while I was on the train, some random lady just looked at me and said "do you know who the father is?" My eyes where about to pop out their sockets. A few people announced to me that I would now have to get married, obviously that was the burning important issue for myself and my partner. Also 'remember you have to eat for 2 now' when I had bad morning sickness, that really helped.

    I'm 15 weeks pregnant and we're not finding out the gender and the most odd comments I get are the guesses.. Example - Wow, no morning sickness? It must be a boy. Or OMG you're eating another cupcake? Must be a girl.
    But the one that annoys me the most are the belly size comments. I am exactly the same size according to me and my doctor and people keep arguing with me that I have a bump. Like, thanks for pointing out my tummy isn't completely flat but I assure you that's the natural curve of my abdomen and it has always looked that way. Awkward.

    When I was in my Freshman year of high school, I still had some fatness on me because I was JUST THEN going through puberty. (I was 13, shut up) And I was just starting my revolutionary growth spurt that brought me from 4'7 to 5'3 within that year. Someone asked me in the locker room if I was pregnant (It is very common for the Freshmen to be these days.) or just fat.. To which I replied with a big, happy grin, "Delightfully chunky, thank you very much." :)

    When I was expecting my son, we went to a church function. Halfway through it, a couple of the older ladies in the church motioned for me to come over . . . I was around 38 weeks at the time. They had me stand there and then had their husbands, who they'd been trying to get to go on a diet or at the least stop scarfing down the huge plates of cookies on offer at the event, stand next to me. They started laughing and pointed out that both of the three of us, the pregnant woman had the smallest belly. When they men tried to say they were actually the same size as me, the wives came back with, "Yes, but she's going to lose all hers. What's your excuse?" It was one of the funniest moments in my pregnancy and it was nice knowing that even as huge and far along as I was, I still did not have the biggest belly in the room!
    As for the touching - I've never minded people touching my belly with their hands after I reached the point where you could feel the baby move. I did have someone try to lay their cheek against my stomach and that creeped me out a lot, but just laying a hand on my belly to feel the baby kick - and he kicked A LOT - wasn't a big deal as long as they asked first.

  • @DecadentCupcake123

    Something that should be added is to never ask "Are you pregnant?" If the lady is already showing a bump, there is no need to ask, NONE. And at my work at least two people asked me if I was pregnant, a coworker touched my belly. I swear I wanted to die when that happened. I'm not even fat, I'm a virgin, never been kissed, and very much single. Essentially when somebody asks me that when I wear an empire top or babydoll, I feel like they're saying I have a huge belly.

  • @mariethatsme
    @mariethatsme 11 лет назад +15

    Posted this on my facebook and it's struck up the best conversation! I really like what you say about not commenting on belly size. I think most people expect that a mom wants to hear how small/tiny she is but either way I would feel defensive of da bump!

  • @BlendHappy
    @BlendHappy 7 лет назад +1

    You've nailed it! I've already dealt with people telling me my bump is either small or like I'm ready to pop, it's rude and insulting either way. I do exercise throughout my pregnancy so it would be nice if more people just said I look great. I can't stand the stories of other People's awful labors and am sick of hearing the sleep now while you can.... IM NOT SLEEPING WELL AT ALL. You're right, with all the back, leg, hip, and heartburn pain as well as peeing often and not finding a comfy position... how am I supposed to enjoy sleep now?! Great video thanks!

    I think the worst one I got was at a New Year's Eve party. I was about 8 mo. preggo, wearing a new maternity top, and thought I was looking pretty cute. Then a girl came in and said, "Oh Cher! I didn't recognize you! I was wondering who the fat girl standing by the stove was. hahaha." Yeah. I wasn't laughing. I pretty much just wanted to burst into tears and go home.

    hehe, I always liked being "Huh-uge!" so it never bothered me but I have a friend who was on bed rest for possible failure to thrive in the womb so when people commented on how lucky she was for being tiny it really hurt her. I ran into an employee at Panera Bread that was practically an SNL character with how fast she repeatedly put her foot in her mouth commenting on my belly. Her heart was in the right place so I just laughed it off but MAN that girl obviously had never had kids. ;)

    When I was 9 months pregnant (or close to popping) I kept getting congratulations and assumptions that I was only like 5 or 7 months pregnant.
    Also I'm not aloud to share my labor and delivery story, its too calming and not so extreme as most, its too "fantasy" to believe.

    When my aunt was pregnant, she was actually asked if she was worried about miscarrying like she did 7 years before. The trauma of the miscarriage was one of the reasons why it was so hard for her to get pregnant again. That really scared her because it was already a high risk pregnancy, & she did almost lose him twice. Luckily my cousin is a teen now & totally healthy. That person was lucky my mom, the eldest & very protective, wasn't there because my mom would have screamed at that person & chased them away.

    thank God! a seven second intro and got straight to the point! when I saw another video on the same topic, I waited 13minutes straight for the video to go straight to the point. I would smash the like button for getting straight to the point and not waiting for the last minute just to get to the main topic.

    I'm 27 weeks and people tell me all the time that I'm barely showing. I want to throat punch them, 1 because it makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong(even though I'm measuring right on), and 2 because even if they don't think I look it... I feel like a blimp. Since I work with a bunch of 20 something's and teenagers I also have a bunch of people telling me that pregnancy is gross and the idea of a baby moving makes them think of an alien trying to escape.

    I love this video! I got all the "You are huge!" comments. The one that hurt the most was "Are you having twins?!" And when I would say no they would continue with "Are you sure?" sheesh. People have no idea how hurtful their comments can be!

    i just happened to find these videos on youtube.. in my 'recommended' section and OMG i love them!!
    im not going to comment so much on what has been said to me but more on the 'touchy feely' people. i HATE being touched, despite being 25 weeks pregnant im so sick of people wanting to touch my bump., so much so iv had a tshirt made to stop people touching me. it happens at the bus stop and at work... and these people touching are STRANGERS! family , friends and medical professionals are people i trust... strangers... are people i dont know therefore dont trust, and i dont know where thier hands have been... *shudder* im almost dreading my little one being born because im worried that people will want to touch.. and il have a huge issue with that,,,(obv fam n friends il be fine with) Does anyone else have these problems?

    Why am I not normal...? A normal 14 year old boy would probably watch stupid stuff on RUclips like "dank memes vine compilation" or "epic fails part 7", and then there's me, watching videos for pregnant women when I'm a boy who is not capable to be pregnant and will also not have a wife...😏

      Well, now you know what not to say to pregnant women around you. Also, we already tend to know what we don’t want strangers to say to us, so I think people who aren’t pregnant are the target audience. Don’t get caught up on being “normal” it doesn’t exist and it’s too fun to yourself anyway. :)

    My husband asked me to buy him some chips and pop and bring it to him at work (because he was on an unplanned night shift) and while I was waiting in line to pay for it, a random 50 years old men (or about) came running at me from the door, touched my belly and told me I shouldn't eat those chips and drink that pop that I'm gonna make my baby sugar high and he's never gonna be calm when he's gonna be born. My answer at that moment was looking at him with big eyes and ask him who the F&*( are you?

    I could literally write a book.... Worst things said to me while i was pregnant (no particular order): "Were you guys planning on this??", "Do you think you're ready?", "How are you feeling?" (not a bad question, but seriously - I heard this question a ZILLION TIMES A DAY, and most of the pregnancy, I felt like crap, so thanks for asking!), "When are you having the next one?" (hold on, WHAT?!), "What name did you pick?" followed by "Why aren't you telling people the name you picked?", "Have you tried (fill in the blank)?" (STOP with the advice - I have literally read a zillion articles and books about pregnancy - I've tried it all!), "Are you STILL pregnant?!", and one of my LEAST favorite comments - "Welcome to parenthood - get ready for having no life and no free time!" (really? - my new family IS my life and I'm going to LOVE spending all my "free" time with them!). Just stick to saying things like "Wow, you've got to be so excited!" and "Congrats, you'll be a great mom!" :-)

    Totally agree with ALL 5! Someone once said to me in the checkout line at the grocery store, "Are you due like, tomorrow??" When I was in my 7th month. I got in my car and cried. LOL. But seriously, how could a comment like that help or encourage ANY pregnant woman? The things people say! And also the fact that perfect strangers think they have a right to comment AT you period, just because you're pregnant. So obnoxious. Rant over. Great video!

    The worst thing that someone said to me was an older woman that had to be about 70. I was in Walmart she just walks up to me and say 'You are too young to be pregnant. What are you 16?' I just kept walking. That women followed me about for about 20 mins. I was 7 months a long and 24 with my birthday just around the corner.
