The Sword of Kaigen is a tour de force. The characters are indeed deep and the battle scenes are intense. I felt the last chapter wasn't in keeping with the rest of the book. Misaki is an amazing character, it is interesting in a fantasy book that the three principal female characters are all mothers...
Agreed! It was really unusual to get the mother's perspective in a book like this. Within the group I read it, we all really appreciated how real Misaki seemed, particularly the description of how she had changed physically and had to take that into account in particular scenes (trying not to give spoilers!). I really hope ML Wang writes more of her story!
