- It’s approaching 60 years since Gigliola won the Eurovision Song Contest with her song Non Ho L’età (Per Amarti). Since that victory in 1964, the song has made it back to the Eurovision stage a second time - in 1991, when the Contest was hosted in Rome. Gigliola co-presented Eurovision that year, also performing the classic song as an interval act during the show.

How refreshing to see a female singer looking and ageing naturally in a world full of frozen botoxed and filler faces. You can still see her beauty shine through as a beautiful mature woman. One of the best ever Esc winning songs. And certainly the best performance of the night. Bring this type of song back. Not all the SAME 25 song that we heard this year.

I had never heard this song before but it was so moving - Gigliola obviously put her heart into it, and it was lovely to hear the audience singing along with her.

My mum used to sing this song when I was little. She was a great singer and used to perform at local festivals where she sang versions of her favourite Italian ballads. My mum and I were very close. Unfortunately, she died in 1994 at the age of 46. I was 18 then. When I heard this song after so many years at Eurovision 2022, it gave me the shivers and I couldn't hold tears. It brought me back to my childhood and all the special moments spent with my mum. What an unexpected gift! x

This is my Italian Mum's favourite song and I remember having this on and old vynil single record and it being played at home frequently. This song just makes me cry whenever I hear it and always reminds me of my Mum back in my home country who I miss dearly. 😭 What a stunning performance this was at the Eurovision!

My mom, who passed away in 2006, loved it too. She said it was one of her earlieast song she could remember from her childhood. She was 10 when it won Eurovision back in 1964 and my mom watched it on TV here in Sweden.

Ricordiamo che Cinquetti non ha solo vinto ESC nel 1964, ma è anche arrivata seconda nel 1974 con il brano Sì, dietro gli ABBA, che vinsero con Waterloo.

The great songstress of San Remo. Totally natural , style , class and talent. She just stands still behind the microphone and draws the audience to her. No staging gimmicks , pure emotion in the voice . I can remember just about when she came second to Abba's Waterloo with her song 'Si.' Her version of El Condor Pasa is one of the most beautiful things you will ever hear. She is truly remarkable and I hope that she felt that wave of love from the Eurovision fans . The great Gigliola Cinquetti.

There were tears in my eyes when I watched her sing earlier this evening. She represented the Eurovision era long gone after which hip hop took over. For me, this is close to the top Eurovision winning song. It is sad that the Copenhagen TV footage showing her singing the full song in 64 was long lost. Great that Eurovision invited her back.

Oggi viene ricordata sempre e solo per "Non ho l'età", che, nel contesto dell'ESC, va benissimo, per carità, ma non rende giustizia di tutto il lavoro svolto e dei successi conseguiti durante la sua fruttuosa carriera. Gigliola Cinquetti, in Francia, sarebbe un monumento. Qui in Italia le istituzioni non le hanno riconosciuto neanche una medaglietta (stessa sorte per la Carrá). Un artista va onorato e premiato finché ancora in vita.
Ad ogni modo non so quanti anni abbiate, ma le nuove generazioni, in Italia, la conoscono ben poco e i commenti a questo (e ad altri) video ne sono una dimostrazione.

The most exciting moment in the show yesterday in my opinion. I'm from Israel and used to sing this song to my daughter when she was a baby, without understanding the words :) I also remember that Gigliola sang this song together with Toto Cutugno in 1991, the last time Italy hosted the Eurovision contest. Also then - it was amazing. Great song and great singer.

What a wonderful memory, Amit Beit-Ner! I have just taught this song to my 8 year old granddaughter a few weeks ago. She immediately took to this song and enjoys singing it spontaneously while playing outside with her friends. The other day I was so surprised to hear her little brother (5 y.o.) joining her on pitch and he knows the lyrics perfectly well too! They both also know the meaning of the words - a very appropriate song in this era of a prematurely sexually active generation. Let's keep them as innocent and pure as children are meant to be, for as long as possible!
Amit Beit-Ner, my grandchildren are also learning a Hebrew song that Achinoam Nini (Noa) performs so excellently : The Chicken Coop Aria. We don't understand a single word, but with the cute storyline and beautiful melody it doesn't matter at all. As long as we can copy the sound of the words and sing along, we are quite happy. I wrote to Noa and she sent me the sheet music and words phonetically written in in our "normal" font. What a joy!

They grow up in their own Keys To Heaven Musicschool with both parents who are music teachers. We are actually an Afrikaans speaking family, but my son in law is English speaking, so we try to teach the little ones both in English and Afrikaans. The other languages are an additional fun bonus to their homeschooling curriculum.

I am glad that I had the honor to see her perform as I was present in the family show: What a voice, what a lady, and how I love the old Eurovision! I love the modern one (wouldn't have gone there if not), but it's great to see a diva, a well-known and experienced singer, she seems so lovely. One of my highlights at Saturday! I was so happy to see her grace the Eurovision stage after all these years. She's such a delightful singer and time after time, the song proves to be a true evergreen. In my honest opinion, this was the best song of the evening.

Non solo il momento più emozionante di Eurovision Song Contest 2022 ma decisamente anche il più bello. Una canzone immortale ma, soprattutto, una grande, immensa interprete famosa nel mondo, emozionata come una debuttante! Che meraviglia un'artista come Gigliola Cinquetti, enorme bravura, classe, eleganza e immensa popolarità. Fosse nata all'estero avrebbe gia avuto tutti quei riconoscimenti di Stato che hanno i grandi artisti. In Italia, che dovrebbe solo essere fiera di ciò che Gigliola ha fatto e continua a fare per il suo Paese, ancora no. Caro Presidente della Repubblica Italiana Sergio Mattarella
Sono un modesto (ma sereno) precario napoletano di 43 anni con una certa sensibilità nei confronti dell'arte e degli artisti.
Come ben sa, la musica leggera costituisce una tradizionale ricchezza culturale per il nostro Paese ed un importante contributo alla costruzione dell'identità nazionale ed europea (e, qualche volta, uno strumento di pace e di incontro fra le nazioni, come all'Eurofestival di Torino).
Le scrivo questa lettera per sollecitare le autorità preposte ad una maggiore attenzione e cura nei confronti di artisti musicali (specie quelli di più vecchia generazione e la cui vita volge al tramonto) che, con il loro lavoro, hanno reso onore e prestigio al nostro Paese e che, molto spesso, il mondo ci invidia.
Mi riferisco in particolar modo ad un'artista come Gigliola Cinquetti (per la quale nutro una particolare ammirazione). Una cantante che, giovanissima e senza montarsi la testa, arrivò a vincere il Festival di Sanremo e l'Eurofestival nel 1964 e che, con umiltà e discrezione, ha saputo farsi conoscere ed amare in giro per il mondo (Francia, Giappone, Australia, Sud-America, ecc) attraverso un repertorio ampio e di qualità. Un'artista, quindi, che merita un posto nell'olimpo delle grandi cantanti italiane (Dalida, Milva, Mina, Mia Martini, ecc). Ma anche una donna ricca di qualità umane che ha fatto sacrifici importanti per conciliare vita familiare e professionale (è stata anche giornalista e presentatrice) e che può costituire, a mio modo di vedere, un esempio per tante giovani donne.
L'assegnazione di un'onorificenza al merito della Repubblica nulla aggiunge e nulla toglie alla carriera dell'artista, ma esprime comunque la gratitudine del Popolo Italiano (da Lei, Signor Presidente, degnamente rappresentato) nei confronti di una storica cantante che, nel suo periodo aureo, era tra le più amate e rispettate. Una gratitudine che, secondo me, deve essere dimostrata soprattutto a nome e in ricordo di quegli Italiani che, un tempo, l'hanno tanto amata e non ci sono più (penso, ad esempio, alle tante mamme e nonne che cantavano le canzoni di Gigliola ai più piccoli).
Mi auguro si possa provvedere in qualche modo a riconoscere i meriti di questi grandi artisti finchè ancora viventi, perchè non si abbia a dire, un giorno, che il nostro Paese sia irriconoscente nei loro confronti.
Naturalmente il discorso vale anche per altri importanti artisti del panorama musicale italiano (Celentano e Toto Cutugno per citarne alcuni).
Grato per l'attenzione ricevuta, mi congratulo per l'autorevolezza e la straordinaria umanità con cui assolve ai suoi doveri istituzionali, grazie ai quali l'Italia rafforza la sua posizione di prestigio sul piano internazionale (e ci riempie di orgoglio).

Beautiful song, beautifully sung - not heard Gigliola sing it since 1964 when I was 16 too . My strict Italian Dad used to sing it to me - very emotional ! I now have a beautiful 16 year old granddaughter who looks like Gigliola did at the time of her Eurovision hit ... Thanks for the memories .
