You know you just do don’t miss home cooking until you leave mom! Awesome video I’m gonna try and surprise my wife!💕
This looks delicious and I'm making it for my family tonight! I never knew to add flour to the meat. But I do now. I didnt have a mother to teach me how to cook. You are a blessing ❤❤
Im actually watching this video today because i am going to be making this for dinner tonight. Looks great and smells so good.
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe and techniques. I’m making this again for the second time in two weeks!! Reminds me of my grandma who is no longer with us. Picadillo, refrained beans and tortillas...yum!!! Just like grandma used to make🥰
This looks like the way my mom used to make it! I wish I'd paid attention back then but I always preferred to be outside playing! Haha! Now I can make it too! It was always my favorite dish! Occasionally my mother would substitute yellow squash sliced in place of the potatoes and that was really good too! Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us how to make this simple, wonderful dish and yes, it takes me right back to my childhood! Cheers - Luther
Sorry for the late reply. I am not technologially advanced and my husband let me know recently I have lots of comments! Thank you for your kind words. I have used squah and cabbage too! I need to mention that in my tips video that is coming up soon. ~Mariposa :)
You're the reason my kitchen always smells so good, my daughter asks for seconds, and my husband asks for seconds! Thank you for doing these tutorials. Just watching your videos i've learned so much!
You're the reason i know how to make rice. I could never get it just right. And your carne guisada is delicious!!!

I haven't cook for myself in 15 years and this makes my life a little easier, thank you...
I like that you don't use too much tomato sauce. I learned from my dad, who was the cook in our family. My mom would help with the rice or tortillas. Looks delicious!
Thank you so much. I made my boyfriend his favorite dish because of you❤❤ never stop making videos.! 😁

Thank you very much - reminds me of my childhood in El Paso. we used an ice cream scoop, pressed against the side of the pot to get just the solids and then laid that out into a flour tortilla with salsa verde. I love how you added the spices to the water - seems like it would have better overall coverage. I've got to try your recipe and I just ordered the ground beef masher on E-bay - thanks for that tip as well
Sorry for the late reply. I am not technologially advanced and my husband let me know recently I have lots of comments! Thank you for your kind words LeRoy. I hope it came out delish! ~Mariposa :)

Thank you for bringing me one of my child hood favorites
Making this tonight! I’m sure you already know but corn starch and water mixed together can make anything more thinker (like gravy) instead of flour and water. I’ve always been told to cook flour before eating it raw.
Yep. Thanks Judy. I add it to the ground beef now. before adding the water. The way I make it is the way I was taught by grandma and mom. The old way. Still good! :) ~Mariposa

No matter what video you make, I️ am sure I will enjoy the recipe. Would you mind doing your recipe for the basic, frijoles refritos? If not, no worries! :)
When you’re holding the plate what is the orangish red stuff on top

I love Picadillo, but I also love Hamburger Helper...what can I say? I'm a foodie. Do you have a homemade version of Hamburger Helper...ooo, I know, how about a Mexican or TexMex kind. If you haven't posted one, could you? Anyhoo. thanks for sharing and God Bless.
I do! I have a really good one with a tex-mex feel. So delicious. Just retired and going to start my videos again. I'll make that one my first! Thank you for watching!!! ❤️ by the way, my videos will still be on youtube, but search for me as Mariposa's Kitchen or at my website Mariposaskitchen.com
@@STABA Bless your heart, thank you so much.
I am new to your channel and I love it keep up the good work very gorgeous lady
Anyone else sniffling from cutting the dang onion the whole time like me? Lol idk if that's why she was but everytime she did I was like..."yes ma'am"
Lindsay W Pass your raw onion under cold water before chopping to prevent sniffling tears. My Dad, a great cook, taught me how to prevent tears from cutting up onions.
@@lizielue3411 thanks fo rthe tip! I cry all the time! There's a couple of sayings in the Mexican culture if you cry you are a jealous person or if you cry you have a great sense of taste. I like to think I resemble the second. :) ~Mariposa
Thank you!!! 😗😁
Thanks for watching! ~Mariposa

Your welcome. I have since made this quite a few times and love it. Still trying to work out getting the recipe to fit my 10" skillet comfortably.

How do add extra flour mix
Where are you located, and what is the radio station playing?
OMG, what happened to your beautiful hair? I have just recently found you and I have learned so much already. Any chance for tacos de tripitas? I love them and would love to learn how to make them. Thank you.
Hi Lydia, thank you for watching. Emma was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She lost all her hair as a side effect of chemo. Thankfully it is coming back and already past her shoulders.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Emma. Trust in the Lord and he will see you through. Your new fan, Lydia
I thought Emma was going for the Betty Boop hairstyle; you look very pretty either way.
Looks good but Roux is not made with water.
At 7:55 did she say 4 cups of water?
yep
Marunong pala magluto c leila de lima, kya cguro nagustuhan ni jonnel
Do you ever add anything else I do it like that but also add corn or pinto beans or both along with the papas.
Yes, sometimes
Hi Judy. There are lots of things to add. Fresh cilantro before serving as a garnish; I have also subbed potatoes for squash or cabbage. Yummy! :) Thanks for watching! ~Mariposa
Oooo I like the bean idea, might try adding that. tnx
Hello Beautiful --- I am your 1K :)
How many servings do you get from the 2 lbs you made?
7-8 servings
Add some green olives.
Does this recipe call for 2 lbs of ground beef?

Yes
@@STABA why is the channel named David Menchaca??
@@patty7029 I started adding my wifes videos to my channel while in college. I got to the point where I could earn some pennies from every view. I could change it but would have to re apply and it takes a while.
@@patty7029 I didn't actually ever plan on having a channel. Since seeing your reply my husband is working on transitioning me to my own channel. Didn't realize we would have the audience we have now. Thanks for watching! ~Mariposa
Is there going to be an announcement when your channel starts? Or is it at 'Emma Menchaca' ?
Se ve más mexicana que el nopal y escuchando a José Alfredo Giménez y hablando inglés 🙆♀️😓
Hi Anna. Sorry if my lack of Spanish offends you. I grew up in Iowa. Northern U.S. I know Spanish but English is my first language. I teach better this way. I do love my culture though. Thank you for watching! ~Mariposa
If the ingredients aren't listed below and I have to go to a site or watch the video 1st to see the ingredients, I skip it and don't come back to the site. I like to see what is needed and used 1st. Maybe you can bother to do this in the future or lose more people like me.

Thank you for the shout out!
She put the spoon back in after she put it in her mouth
Dont do that if you are cooking for others. Since this dish was for me, it's cool
Not enough fresh ingredients our mom used to add, veggies like carrots cut up into very small pieces fresh tomatoe cut up, calavaza?...use ALL fresh ingredients please.
...with potatoes
Taking too much time.😒🙄
You threw out the liquid with all the flavour, then replaced it with flavourless water later on. You could have put back in the natural juices and separated the fat off the top before returning it to the pan.
There are several ways to get to where we are. To me the main flavor is in the garlic and ground cumin which is why I dont add those until after draining the fat from the ground beef. I also at time add the flour immediately after draining so it can cook in the pan and then adding the other ingredients. For me, I start off adding fat and there is fat in the meat so draining it has no impact on the flavor and it makes me feel better about its fat content. Thank you for watching my video. I appreciate your input. Love to cook, cook with love.
