Post 1971 war there were pakistani religious parties still present in Bangladesh including many army officers who were pro Pakistan. Hence the coup happened and they were able to overthrow the then PM Mujibur Rehman and the army chief and his supporters killed the PM and his entire family except Hasina and her sister who were travelling in Europe at the time. Ever since they formed a seperate nation Pakistan has been using their proxies to create problems for Sheikh Hasina and in the last 10 years China too wanted to woo Bangladesh away from Indian influence.
The World Bank has credited Sheikh Hasina for bringing 28 million people out of poverty and making Bangladesh a textile power house with exports of $$ 40 billion.
Would not be surprised if the country slides in to becoming a hard core conservative Islamic nation ...in other words...a basket case like Pakistan, Afghanistan et al.

Muhammad Yunus seems to detest Sheikh Hasina to the core. All his comments should be considered with that strong feeling he has for Hasina. His statement that all protesters are students is not correct, because students do not cause so much violence. The bigger concern is his statement about how the common Bangladeshis feel about India and Indians. These protesters along with Mr Muhammad seem to have a leaning towards Islamism and I just wish that Bangladesh should not fall prey to these religious leanings. I hope that no riots take place and no Hindu minorities there are harmed. India has to deal with this situation with utmost care and sensibility.
