Try Matt Elliott's version (and his music in general, I suggest that you start with: Drinking Songs), that's a different style, but he's all about desperation. Cheers! 😀
Sometimes I think listening to a extremely depressing song is a remedy of suicidal ideation. It gives you the feeling of being released or banished, but at the same time, hook you with this vivid beauty, compel you to live and listen to it again and again.
I used to think like that, until one day when I was really upset, I started listening to heavy music and when it came to a very depressing one (pulled under at 2000 meters a second) I got so overwhelmed that I had a panic attack, and wasn't able to move my muscles for some time, and continued shaking for an hour or two! Sometimes it might help to intensify your feelings with music and relieve the pain, but sometimes it can be overwhelming.
@V.A. Thanks for asking. I have my ups and downs like I suppose, all of us, especially with a pandemic going on and so many people suffering. Hope that life treats you kindly. All the best wishes for your future.
A real surprise, this song is incredibly beautiful. Bjork comes through (yet again). She is excellently paired with Mark Isham on trumpet, with Vince Mendoza conducting his own arrangement. This performance is from a benefit concert held at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles to raise money for Don Henley's Walden Woods.
+Alejandra SV More info: other performers on that night's program were Sheryl Crow (Good Morning, Heartache); Natalie Cole (They Can't Take That Away from Me); Shawn Colvin (But Beautiful); Trisha Yearwood (Good Guy); Joni Mitchell (Stormy Weather). All of these fantastic songs from that CD are on RUclips.
Björk at her best. But wait at Sugarcubes she was also great.I was 12 years old and i heard her voice for the first time.I fell in love immediately. Now im much older and she is still a godess.
Sunday is gloomy, the hours are slumberless Dearest of shadows I live with are numberless Little white flowers will never awaken you Not where the dark coach of sorrow has taken you Angels have no thought of ever returning you Would they be angry if I thought of joining you? Gloomy Sunday Gloomy Sunday, with shadows I spend it all My heart and I have decided to end it all Soon there'll be prayers and candles are lit, I know Let them not weep, let them know, that I'm glad to go Death is a dream, for in death I'm caressing you With the last breath of my soul, I'll be blessing you Gloomy Sunday Dreaming I was only dreaming I awake and I find you asleep and deep in my heart Dear... Darling, I hope that my dream hasn't haunted you My heart is telling you how much I wanted you Gloomy Sunday It's absolutely gloomy Sunday Gloomy Sunday
Get through each minute as it comes... don't even try to take it "one day at a time" at first. Just one minute at a time. But that will help you get through each day as it comes, one after another... And one day you'll wake up and find the pain is a little less biting. And then you will start feeling that way on more and more days. You're not alone man, many of us have been through immense heartache-- thats why songs like this exist. You'll come out the other side eventually, I promise.
Wonderfully expressive! This is one of my favourite Billie Holiday songs and I thing Bjork does it brilliantly complete with feeling, thought and message. Beautiful!
I have been listening to this song sang by Bjork none stop. I simply love her rendition of this song with such a dark jazzy instruments, very haunting indeed.
bjork has such a loving voice.Better than any singer i have ever hear. And i'm pleased to know that she sang this song at Lee Alexander Mccquens funeral. He would have loved it as much as i. Thank you bjork! and God Bless Alexander Mccqueen. You will be missed!
I just lost my cousin this past month, I have dealt with depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts/attempts. Something about seeing my cousin in her coffin terrified me, all of these memories we had, all of the darkness my mind and body have gone through and survived...only for life to expire for her. She fought through so much, and losing her was just devastating - this song is what that despair feels like. She was 33 years old. 💔
im 43 years old and ive listened this soing from diferent performers but BJORK is so authentic and gives at the song the sadness and pitty as no one else.
I felt tingles while listening to this song. Like a strange sad, sad, SAD emotion buried deep in this song. I don't know if any of you could sense it, but I sense severe dread, sadness, and especially loneliness in this.... So sad...It's not just the singer's voice, but also the lyrics themselves.
Wow!! Björk is able to awaken everyone's inner suicide instinct just with her voice!! ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪ She's an amazing artist :3 This song is as beautiful as nostalgic ♥ Nice mix of feelings...
Great version of this song. Thing about this tune is that it's so subjective, that's why it's been covered so much. Mostly, I take it as life-affirming. It can also be just a 'I;m done with love' type song. And the odd time it's good to take to it's saddest 'life-ending' point. And Bjork, what can I say? One of THE great artists out there today. Always challenging and moving forward. Tip of the hat to you, girl!
she couldn't have performed a more perfect and beautiful and melancholy song for McQueen's funeral... this actually brings tears to my eyes picturing the whole thing.
It's said that people who are mentally stable, can feel suicidal after listening to this song... It's her voice. It's so powerful. I love this song frankly.
is not depresive man this song make me believe in a best world tomorrow i will dont give up not just for me for all people it exist in this world i will stand at this gloomy sunday....
Have you never Loved so hard you could just die!? Thats what this song is about, not the act of ending your own life just to end it all! Its a Love song. Love is pain sometimes. Remember that and you'll well.
Figures. Info much appreciated. The added last line, trying to spin it as a dream didn't convince me. I always saw it as the narrator committing suicide and waking up to his dream/afterlife. Sort of happy ending, but gloomy
I think Bjork's version may be my favourite. It's far more desperate and painful. You can hear her despair in every note. Beautiful
+Erin L Yeah, also Bjork has a very unique voice that makes all the more special to her beautiful intent during performance.. Truly a goddess.
Try Matt Elliott's version (and his music in general, I suggest that you start with: Drinking Songs), that's a different style, but he's all about desperation. Cheers! 😀
Watch her singing it at Alexander McQueen's funeral. Heartbreaking and exquisite.
By far, the best version is by a different Genesis with Sue Richman on vocals ~ ruclips.net/video/k8Ra9UUlkl8/видео.html
Angelina Jordan. That is all. Though Bjork is still top tier.

Stimmt .)))
I couldn't not agree any more!! Perfectly said.

I got suicidal tonight for the first time in 6.5 years. Came back to this very song. Its helping.
When I'm deep in depression, I have to hear this song.
I know that the sun will shine for me again, even when I can't believe it for now.
@V.A. Thanks for asking. I have my ups and downs like I suppose, all of us, especially with a pandemic going on and so many people suffering. Hope that life treats you kindly. All the best wishes for your future.

I dont know why i always coming back to this masterpiece, it's 2024 now, i found this in 2014, wow.

This is an absolutely fascinating interpretation of that song.I love it so much.
i love how you can hear the pain of a lost loved one in her voice. whether she has really felt that or not, she interperrets that emotion very well.
Björk at her best. But wait at Sugarcubes she was also great.I was 12 years old and i heard her voice for the first time.I fell in love immediately. Now im much older and she is still a godess.
A hungarian folk song, done by Billie Holliday, Sarah Brightman, and Bjork. A classical piece of music that will never die. Long live soul.
This is a fantastic version of the song, once again Bjorks voice has blown me away.

I want somebody to make a 6 hour montage of pictures of Bjork with her music in the background. She is so beautiful and so is her music.
damn, björk: why do you make me falling in love with you everytime i hear your voice? you're so cruel...

I love it...beautiful.Only Bjork can make Gloomy Sunday sound so sultry and cheerful
I have been listening to this song sang by Bjork none stop. I simply love her rendition of this song with such a dark jazzy instruments, very haunting indeed.
This is the most powerful song I’ve ever heard. I first head it when I was 15 in 2002 and the impact has never changed.❤
This is such an amazing cover. She should've made a studio version!
The first time I heard this probably almost 10 years ago during my high school... still love how she chanel her voice for this version
here's a hug from a random stranger. It'll be fine, I hope!

#Atmosphere, excellently timed & executed

oh i remember how much i used to listen to this one, i still love it. The intro is so amazing
The original song is Hungarian. As a native Hungarian, I can tell that perhaps Björk's version is the closest to the original's intentions...

to me, this is the best version i have heard.

She looks like how I would picture an anime character. She's so beautiful :)
Some beautiful pictures you chose to go with this. Thanks.
Why in the world wasn't this in the 2013 "Great Gatsby"? It would've gone great with the scenes from George Wilson's grief to when he shoots Gatsby.
The song is banned in US, UK, and some other parts of the world.
@@bellalunaz True but it would’ve still been nice.
@@jenneacubero1036 Would have been appropiate, yup. Even more so the Billie Holiday version since it was that era for Jazz.

Yes feel it let the dark side of the force consume you and reveal you true desires. The ultimate freedom that can only be brought on through death.

I feel this song is great but it wasn't as scary as people usually said. I love this song !
she couldn't have performed a more perfect and beautiful and melancholy song for McQueen's funeral... this actually brings tears to my eyes picturing the whole thing.
Now that I knowing not supposed to be there the last verse ruins it for me. Cheapens the whole experience for me.
it was written later, so you're right
This is so awesome, I'm totally in love with this song.

Among all versions, this one stands out DRAMATICALLY. By a Mile. Bjork is THE artist of the past 2 decades.
This had no affect on me. Maybe I'm too depressed to feel any sadder.

very beautiful...
