- MG Comet, with a starting price of Rs 7.98 lacs, is officially India's most affordable EV. In terms of dimensions too, it is the smallest EV that one can buy in India. We drove it for over 115Km to check its real-world range, and came out rather impressed. But there are some big negatives too with the car. We tell you all about it in our first drive report.
Comet is incredibly quiet and provides a peaceful driving experience that is perfect for city driving.

I believe the base version of MG Comet should have been priced at a maximum on-road price of Rs. 6 or 6.5 lakh. The higher-end features such as the touch screen infotainment system and reverse parking camera could have been offered as options only for the top variant.
The MG Comet's compact size, limited range, and minimal boot space, combined with a negligible price difference with the Tiago EV, do not justify its price.
For individuals from lower and middle-income groups, the price is the most critical factor when purchasing a car. While safety features such as airbags are necessary, compromises can be made on high-end features. For instance, an AUX/Bluetooth music system can be provided instead of a touch screen infotainment system, reverse parking sensors instead of reverse parking cameras, and dashboard controls instead of steering mounted controls.
To encourage the majority of Indians to shift towards EVs, it is vital that an EV car is available within their budget range (between 3 to 6 lakh, at which they purchase a used petrol/diesel car) that can perform the basic function of transportation from point A to point B at a minimal running cost (thanks to its EV technology), and includes basic air conditioning and a music system.
Given these compromises, MGMotorIndia should have priced the Comet at around Rs. 6.5 lakh on-road. This would have put it in direct competition with internal combustion engine vehicles, and middle-class individuals would have considered purchasing a new EV car within their budget instead of a used petrol/diesel car.
This would also enable MG Motors to attract a larger customer base, making Comet as an anchor and even upsell premium cars to some of them. It is worth considering this option as it could prove to be a key to the brand's success.

Tata did this and failed with Nano.. Ratan tata wanted every Indian family of 3 people to travel in car rather than 2wheelers.. but failed miserably.. understand that MG wants premium customers to drive and they didn’t want the car to be used as OLA and UBER.. who ever thinks MG is crap, could never realise how great the world is moving further and how developed China is compared to India..
Because of such features and great body and its an ev it has been priced and it’s affordable

Feels more like rich people's second car than small family 's first car
Right now no electric car should be consider as first family car because of price to range ratio all are way expensive and all give range anxiety.
Obviously.EV are meant as second car. Unless you can afford 30 L byd or upcoming mg 4& 5 EV

This EV is such a decent looking one at such a reasonable price. City riders would love it. Its specifications impressed me.
i went for a spin yesterday, drove at 80 kmph, felt like it may rollover on changing lanes, it was a bit risky. if still i go for it i would surely use wheel spacer and a bigger tire profile.

But I have to say design language of this vehicle is futuristic, boxy and perfectly suits the EV styling....but its better to go for tiago EV as of now...
good review. Many design flaws can be seen which SAIC could not correct. Still the Tiago EV is the best entry level EV in the market.

Typical Indian mentality brother… use it as a daily commute.. don’t plan for long rides.. How do you even cross 80kmph in city roads ? In Metro cities, max speed limit is 40kmph.. know that nd accept the reality..

Comfort and Safety are very important even in urban environs.
This also has a good safety feature. This is designed for urban mobility. Tata cars might be good, but the service is very poor.

Looking for an EV car for city commute in Kolkata. Monthly running 500 km with 2 persons. Took a test drive of MG Comet EV. Liked it. My biggest concern about the car is its range. Can I pull up a range of 150 km in bumper to bumper traffic? What is your opinion? Do you recommend the car?

Sir please help me. Car ki invoice generate hone se pehle kya Bluetooth connectivity kaam karti hai? Today I went for PDI and found that Bluetooth not connecting with mobile. Dealers asked me to make payment, then they will do PDI from their time and that time it will be fixed. Is it right ? Bluetooth doesn't work initially?
