The Ultimate Sweater machine is not that well built, especially the carriage, compared to the older bonds, classic, classic Plus, Elite, Incredible Sweater machine, etc those older models are far supirior in build quality, Bond was a British company and made all the Bond knitting machines, including the Incredible Sweater Machine in the UK from 1984 until the mid 90's. Then Bond sold their company to an American yarn manufacturer called Caron and the company became "Bond America" and they do actually make the Ultimate Sweater Machine in the USA and is generally good quality but the carriage is VERY poor quality and CONSTANTLY jams, unlike the original bond carriage with the fabric guide.
Thank you for posting your video. I was hoping to purchase the ultimate sweater machine but found this machine on ebay for much less and am so glad I did!
There is a learning curve with the USM, however, once you master it you will be surprised what you can accomplish with it. I agree, it is not a punch card machine or a metal bed, but I often pull out my USM/Bond to knit the more straight forward items. Take a bit of time and watch some of the videos by Cynthia Ogden. She has mastered the USM and has made many wonderful items.
HI there - have just got my machine out of storage and I seem to have lost my green and yellow cards. I was wondering if you could please measure the cards for me Regards Paula (Melbourne Australia)
Hey Paula, hi from Geelong 👋 I can’t answer your question as I haven’t bought a machine yet, but hoping you can answer mine! What’s the width of the machine bed? And if you could also tell me the maximum width of the finished piece you would get from using the entire bed, once you take it off the machine and it isn’t stretched out that would be a huge help too. If I buy one and it has the green and yellow cards I’ll measure them for you 😁
@@sradimitri2745 aren’t you lovely! I’ve been trying to think of the best way to save this thread as the machine I just ordered makes its way from America to me. Now I don’t need to!
I own the Incredible sweater machine. 'Im trying to knit the baby blanket which is seam as you knit. Knitted up to the third strip. I'm stuck. Anyone made this before. Can you help ?
Have made Queen blankets using the USM--with the SAYG (sew/seam-as-you-go) technique. When you say stuck, what do you mean? I will try to help, if I can!

I’ve had good luck with my USM, but it’s the Bond America one made in the USA. I have thought about buying an ISM carriage with plates on eBay, though. I’m told the ISM carriage fits well on the USM needle bed.

Both machines are cheaply made and hard to use. Spend a bit more money for a good machine and see the difference so you can enjoy knitting.
