A hollow piece of plastic is much lighter than a solid block of wood. Phil couldn't tell a difference at all in how they looked, he spotted it instantly by the way it moved in the water. A little ripple won't cause a solid wood decoy to move at all really, but will easily make a hollow plastic decoy move. Ducks can see this too.

If you put a big wooden keel on foam decoys they sit in the water. The thing is the heaver the decoy and the more neutral buoyancy the less it moves around and the more it looks natural. Thing with plastic decoys is the keel is designed to make them self right which means it will bob around in the water versus a heavier decoy with a heavier keel. Its a fine balance between self righting decoys and appearance on the water. However if you take a cedar 1x4 and attach it as your keel it will have the same appearance as a super expensive former or wooden decoy minus the great paint job.

Phil Robertson wouldn't spend $70 to get furniture moved but he'll spend $1,000 on one single duck decoy he said he wouldn't spend that amount of money because it's the principle yet he's spending $1,000 on a decoy doesn't make sense
