    Thanks for the video mate, our MX5’s fan belt was squealing but only when the headlights, heater fan & heated rear screen were switched on. Just slackened the lower and top bolts off and adjusted the screw clockwise a turn to tighten the belt a wee bit, nipped up the bolts, good as new, cheers 👍

    Yeah useful, just saying if you’re replacing the belt may aswell cut the old one off, no messing about turning the engine over, if it needs adjusting and looks abit worn a new one is like £8 makes more sense

      @RickTheSpud  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah true. But if you're adjusting it and haven't got one, definitely don't cut it off! 😜

    Liked the method for gauging the belt tension! Just about to do this on my '02 LS (with A/C). Scared the driver next to me today when I switched the AC on and the belt let out a horrible squeal!

    Can use use a 22 mm socket and a breaker bar to move the engine?

    • @RickTheSpud
      @RickTheSpud  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah easy. Won't need a breaker bar. Just a small ratchet. I had my hand halfway up the spanner. Might even be able to pull on the belts, but don't pinch your fingers!

    What to do if i dont have the tightening screw next to alternator belt?

    • @RickTheSpud
      @RickTheSpud  9 месяцев назад

      I wedged a couple of big screwdrivers in the adjustment slider and had someone put some pressure on it while I tightened it up. 💪

    The gorilla that replaced the belts on my car screwed the 14mm behind the alternator in so damn tight. He must have been settling a personal vendetta with that bolt.
    Spent 10 minutes on it and started to strip the head, so I ended up needing to jack up the car and remove the splash guard anyway to get it at properly.

    You should have shown how hard is to unbolt the freaking alternator

    • @RickTheSpud
      @RickTheSpud  2 дня назад +1

      It did show that! You only slacken off that bottom bolt not take it off.

      The bolt on the back of the alternator is a nightmare, it seems stuck on mine and the location makes it impossible to use a breaker bar. I've tried 2 spanners connected together, no luck

    • @RickTheSpud
      @RickTheSpud  8 месяцев назад

      The one it pivots on? Try rotating the alternator without undoing it.
