  • In February of 1874, a group of six men set off through the high mountains of Colorado. Weeks later, only a man named Alfred Packer came out. Packer would later be tried and convicted of robbing, murdering and eating his traveling companions. Prolific true crime writer Harold Schechter returns again to Most Notorious to talk about his bestselling book, "Man-Eater".

Doesn’t seem like a very bright killer. Instead of leaving town and laying low he did a bunch of stuff to bring attention to himself

Did take out some gravitas, I must say - I found Steve Hodel the former cop to be the most frustratng guests - vague & off-point responses on Black Dahlia where his own dad is the focus. And a resort to armchair psychology that someone so involved would not need, certainly not if only one hour plus were available.
Also must say I don't favour questions where MN asks, talk a bit about, and then just names a name - weird becasue your other questions are so good, plus keep listener up to speed & free the guest from having to backpedal, from qwhatever is the latest state of the case

I became aware of it early on, but I managed to get through it.
It is an annoying trait that has become somewhat popular during the past couple of decades.
