      The southern strategy Lee Atwater
You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”-that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”

COINTELPRO and Iran-Contra was not discussed and had devastating impacts on the black community.
The FBI stats only show who’s arrested for a crime not who’s found guilty or later found innocence. The FBI also have a report on the infiltration of white supremacist in law enforcement which came out in 2006 under the bush administration.
Also, benefits given to whites by the government in I.E. the new deal, the farming acts, and the GI bill.

But I think they got really hung up on the grocery stores when the real point was about DMVs. I don’t know how much you have gone to the DMV, but I may have gone at most 5 times in my life. It just isn’t that necessary to have one within 10 miles of every single citizen.
I’m pretty sure AJW was wrong about a pop of 10,000 not having a grocery store (basically every town over 5,000 in my state has one), but this stuff just doesn’t seem bad faith to me.

@@riemannsum3741 Hey, thanks for your thoughts, I'd like to add in a few things as clarification.
      1) I completely agree, 40 miles in the rural part of Arkansas is going to be a drastically different drive time then a 40 mile drive through the urban part of Pennsylvania. My reasoning for claiming this is blatantly bad faith is that without looking into the case at all, AJW assumed any random area they mentioned would fall under the "we can drive 100mph for 2 hours straight" rather than "we might be lucky to go one block without hitting a red light"
      2) Driving time isn't the only time we need to account for, as Fanatiq and Destiny tried pointing out, the DMVs being referenced were being cut out (as agreed by supreme court) in ways to specifically limit black voting. Queue times could be as long as 10 hours, and with things like water not being handed out anymore, asking someone for time off to drive 40 miles to sit in line for 10 hours with little ability to get food/water, you're chopping a huge population of people out of voting
To say that these things aren't objectively harmful to the voting abilities of the people targeted is basically ignoring reality. Lauren and AJW both seem to need a person to be comic book levels of racist (picture the hood, shouting the n word, and so on) before they're "comfortable" calling them racist.
As a side note, I've wasted a few years of my life working in a grocery store, he was comedically off base saying a pop of 10k is too low to sustain one, in the early 00's it was 2k+, and has moved to around 3200 if I recall. Not trying to berate you with that, just pointing out that this man has shown incredibly strong opinions on things he's blatantly wrong about that he doesn't even bother to fact check.

The thing about any laws that are enacted to ostensibly make voting more secure is that you have to look further than just the surface of any particular aspect of a law. For instance, mandatory voter ID can seem perfectly reasonable on it's face, but the issues can arise when it comes to what types of ID's are considered valid. For example, I think it may have been Texas, there were allowances for gun permits but not student ID's. Or we could look at places that curb various early voting practices. One such practice could be Sunday voting; an activity that is historically done by Black American communities in the Southern US. These types of things are done for particularly partisan reasons, the latter of which targets Black voters. This is why I find this fixation on a law needing to be explicitly discriminatory to be considered racist or biased so ridiculous.

Holy jesus that whole "Soap dispenser" argument made me actually groan out loud.
Yes, there are elective tools where it doesn't work. White people don't buy those if they are too pale and blonde. But what Destiny is talking about is Facebook HQ in Nigeria installed soap dispensers that work on Infrared, which can't detect the reflection from the black skin. This is a clear example of how if a black person was in the room when this purchasing decision was made, they might have said "Hey, Maybe DON'T get those soap dispensers because we have several black employees and I know from experience that those don't work for us"
AJW then follows up with "But you need different lighting for black people!" Yeah. and if you have a set full of white people, who have always worked with white people and never learned from black co-workers, they will set up the lighting in a way that will make the black people look like they are in the witness protection program. Thats exactly the fucking point! The influence of either working with black people, or having people on set with understanding of the lived experience of black people makes that job easier. Because they have input and knowledge that white people might not have considered. Because why would you consider it? I don't consider "How do I fly a plane" Because I don't fly a plane. That doesn't make me a bad person. It just means I should probably consult a pilot before I try to buy a plane.
The fact that this argument is something that Lauren and AJW thinks they need to argue back against is so idiotic that they automatically lose the entire debate because they just prove that they are fucking insanely bad faith. Because they cannot concede the point that "The presence of someone who has a different lived experience can be good, because they can help you understand a lived experience you do not understand" Destiny doesn't even say this should be mandated or law. He just says that this as value. And rather than just agreeing that this has potential value, they decide to quibble over nonsense regarding fucking soap dispensers.

The skin color issue is something that our technology compensates for. The darker the skin, the brighter the light shines, the lighter [the skin] the less it shines.”"

@@ogzombieblunt4626 When the article says "The Light" it means "Infrared light" note that it doesn't state any other type of Light is at use, and Infrared is typically how these sensors work. These detectors send out Infrared light from a point, and when you take your hand under it, it reflects the Infrared back into the sensors around the light emitter and triggers it.
Because of the pigment in black peoples skin, the light doesn't reflect back as well and it won't trigger.
yes it can happen with white people too, but it doesn't tend to because 1: the light needs to be REAL bright, and the area under the sensor tends to be shaded by the sensor.
2: Its rare to have hands that pale because hands are always exposed.
3: Your body will usually be between the sensor and the light.
And even if it is Infrared, or if it is some other type of light. It's irrelevant. The point is Light does not reflect as well of black peoples skin. And If there was a black person involved in the design / purchasing of these dispensers. This might not have happened.

If this device was infrared it would just be detecting heat and would have no problem discerning between black and white as it literally doesn't see those pigments, just the passive heat... so the one you are talking about absolutely seems like an optical one. Btw infrared sensors on these dispensers are passive, they dont send out any signals... why do you talk about things you have no clue about?

And this is a lived experience that a black person being part of the designing / purchasing decision could possibly have informed the team about and avoided the issue in the first place.
Regardless of my failure to properly read the article, Destiny is right that more varied experiences in a team, can help reduce the chance of errors and problems in decision making.

The point I would like to make and ajw made is that optical sensors simply cannot detect dark pigments as easily because of physics. I bet you could make a more advanced or machine learned system, but the point of optical sensors is that they're much more cheap than infrared. So if you try to solve for this you might make the sensors you sell to majority black areas more expensive. And then people would be yelling discrimination.
I really cringed when destiny said that a vax research team would be better if it was diverse. Considering how many black people go into STEM I can gurentee you that if you maximized for diversity or made a vax team in the image of the demographics of america, then you would leave a lot of smart white people out and have a higher proportion of black people who aren't as qualified. We need our research teams to based on merit not diversity.

The people who worked in the technology knew it would be less effective on black skin but it was still very useful technology. Having the black perspective wouldn’t have changed anything. Mind you, I’m not against a qualified blacks person being part of the process I’m just against it being forced

"fucking physics cannot be helped by having a black perspective"
      exactly
BUT. if you have a black person in your testing team, the device would have failed IN TESTING.....BEFORE you start production. so you save A LOT of money modifying it to take physics into account.
and you would also have saved a lot of bad publicity from people who dont understand physics and want to attribute everything to racism.
it's not a matter of perspective. it's a matter of physics.
do you understand now? or do i need to explain it at usa reading levels? i think i could stoop that low if you really need it.

give less loans = racism via lack of capital access
give more loans = racism via predatory loans
give same loans = racism via ignorance of prior stated racism.

Bro what is the point of doing Lauren debates she literally has debated destiny 2020484820 times and has yet to change her mind probably because she DOESNT want her mind changed . It’s malarkey at this point.
