You could find composition in the bottom of a rubbish bin Sir. I could never in a million years find so much inspiration the way you do no matter what the subject you are shooting. A stunning tapestry of wood mist and light. A relaxing Sunday watching 👀 one of your videos takes some beating, and you are not shy about sharing your hints and tips with us all. Thank you Sir.
Another great video of your local woodland John. You've definitely got an artist's eye for a composition. When I wander around my local wood I really struggle as I just tend to see a lot of clutter. in front of me I will definitely try your three woodland tips the next time I'm out. Keep up the great work , always look forward to watching your latest vlog.👍👍
Really good shots again John you do have an eye for a photo,so many to choose from but the shots at around 8 mins and 12mins in the video are my favourites 😊
@@JohnMcKennaPhotography you're too modest sir, more talent than luck I would say. I'd recommend checking out Chatelherault Country Park over in Hamilton, might be a good opportunity there for some woodland photography as we head into the autumn and winter months.
@@robertgall92 Its already on my shoot list for October Robert! Great location, especially down by the river. I had planned to go last year but i missed my opportunity so its near the top of this years Autumn locations!
Hi John. Another great video with amazing images. It's funny, that as Landscape Photographer's, we chase our tail around the country in search of 'the shot,' when very often it might just be on our doorstep. A lesson to explore more locally I think. 👍
very interesting video on woodland photography, you have a really good eye for compositions in this environment, I do struggle in woodlands, thanks for giving me plenty of inspiration and tips to get out in the woods, thanks for sharing.
Lovely conditions, John, you got some cracking moody shots, I would definitely be printing a couple of them. I had to Laugh when you were doing your Circular repeat, I use the overworked word Magical, but Woodland in Mist is truly Magical.
@@JohnMcKennaPhotography They say size isnt important, but in the case of Prints it really is, I always find if an image looks good as a thumbnail or small print it will look brilliant as a really large Print.

Great video as always 😊 i really find woodland photography a challenge trying to see a composition,. I really like woodland mist 2 its a fantastic shot 👍
Thanks! I've been but not really spent a lot of time there. I'm planning a visit up that way in the near future so I'll check out both Glens! Is there anywhere in particular you'd recommend?
Great video to wander around with you in the woodland and compositions, thanks for that. I especially like the scenery and photo at 11:43. Later in the video you're shooting the 'arch' with f18. Have you considered using focus-stacking, as you've got a tripod with you? I always thought that appertures like f18 would introduce artifacts in the final image (diffraction).
Thanks! I do use focus stacking now and then but on this particular day I wanted to try to increase the diffraction which can cause image softening as I was trying to enhance the misty / dreamy feel
you have grabbed yourself some great shots John, looking forward to those Autumnal colours, any tips on a area to visit apart from the overpopulated Hermitage 🙄
thanks Jeff! I'm planning a trip to Faskally forest just outside Pitlochry soon. Also the woods around Killiecrankie look amazing when the autumn colours kick in - which I think should be VERY soon!
@@JohnMcKennaPhotography cheers John some places we have been close to but never visited , always worried about the traffic when they have the lightshow in the woods
@@jeffdaniels5166 Yeh, I try to avoid the area around then. I'm actually planning to visit this week so I'll be able to confirm when I'm back if the trees are on the turn or not!
Beautiful compositions. Slightly less foggy around here, so I decided against it that morning. I always feel a bit of a pillock mist chasing ... Oh, its mistier over there ... walk over ... not very misty ... oh, its mistier over there ... walk over ... not very misty. Logically I know what's happening but those legs just keep on walking. There's a tree that I can see from the kitchen window, a hundred yards away, if I can still see it it ain't misty enough to bother putting my wellies on. Do you think its going to get cold enough to get crisp autumnal colours or is it just going to be that damp brown mess clinging to the branches ?
@@iainmc9859 im cautiously optimistic about this autumn. Already seen some nice colours developing and with a dry few days coming up I think we might be in luck! (Hope so anyway as I'm driving north this week to shoot some woods!)
@@JohnMcKennaPhotography For what its worth (as I'm only 20 miles north of you) the Sycamores (Acers) are only just turning, the Birches are thinking about it, the Beeches aren't really being effected yet or the Oaks. The most colourful things are the berries, haws and hips, other than that its all pretty green.
@@iainmc9859 thanks Iain. Yeh, im currently standing on the shore of Loch Faskally near Pitlochry and the trees are only just beginning to turn. Might try again in a month or so (depending on when that annoying light show thing ends!)
@@JohnMcKennaPhotography Yeah, very roughly I work on the basis that its three weeks from the Sycamores going that the peak time begins. Birch usually goes a week before the Sycamores but are often pretty stripped before the oaks go over; all of which depends on fairly stable weather. If its windy the Birch and Sycamore will be stripped before the Oaks even think of going. Larch might be already going though, which may give some contrast to the other conifers. Any luck with the Northern Lights ? Nature keeps you on your toes. Enjoy 😊
