We had to miss out on this one yesterday, but such a lovely Loco. We just love many 70, 80 and 90s models from the brand we collect. Like this, specially in the 70s, they were simple but super sturdy and just look seriously good quality for what they are. This one looks like a little gem to be had. Gladly you’ve brought it back to life once again 👏👏👏 Cheerio.

Heres a fun fact, the creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, the Rev. W. Awdry, made MANY model railways of his books, and one of his Henry models (ironically enough) was a terrible runner, always breaking down, etc. The model seemingly disappeared, and for over 60 years, the history preservation of Awdry's old models figured he threw it away. Until, checking one of his old desks, they found it! Half taken apart with a little box that had "Henry parts" written on it. Even up until his death, Awdry refused to give up on that engine! Now discovered, the partially restored Henry is now on display with the other models.

Although many of the models are old, I am still amazed how you get away with washing and brushing them so vigorously without damaging the finish.
I just feel sorry for the Dock Authority that was not salvaged. I have a soft spot for these.
I cannot wait until the 3rd series if you do decide to do another one.

    • @SamsTrains

Please bring this season back to inspire people in keeping these beautiful models alive! These days it's all about being sustainable and repairing/repurposing/reusing. They're always great entry level models building a fleet quickly as a hobby newb.
And seriously, how good does the electro-plated safety valve bonnet look! Sooo much better than painted.

8:18 I had a model I bought 20 years ago from a model shop, a second hand Triang Jinty. As a kid it was 'Thomas' brother' cos of the shape, but it was £7 because it was a dead non-runner. Well, I kept putting it on the track and for fun, having one of my working models struggle to 'push' it. I liked the wheelslip, haha. Well, few times of doing this, once I noticed the Jinty's wheels start to move. Only a tiny bit. So, I took all other trains off, full power on the controller, and flicked between forwards and reverse. I did this for 3 hours or so, And eventually coaxed the engine back into doing a full wheel rotation. Just amazed me such a stubborn engine was now running. They're tough those motors.!

Loved this series! A great way to learn what can and does go wrong with some locos, particularly if they've been left around like mine have been and sadly are probably going to continue to be at least until I end up inheriting my Papa's layout. Not a pleasant thing to think about from all angles but I don't have the electrical intellect to build my own so that's just the situation... Still though, this series has been great at mentally preparing me for the day that comes and I get to move all my trains over there to run! I hope this show does get a season 3 and even hopefully a season 4 in the future! Thanks for all the educational entertainment, Sam!

    Great program as usual.
A few additions...a selection of small Tuna Tinlets to hold all those small Screws...NOT loose on the Bench.
A selection of Tweezers to hold small screws/parts for disassembly or Re-assembly ( Surgical Forceps are Ideal, as are Self- Holding ones.)
The work style on a Pannier Tank is the same for a 1970s Rivarossi Big Boy...just more screws etc.
My Italian period ( 1974-83) saw a huge collection of American style Plastic and Brass locos accumulated, shifted home to Aussie, and remain in Boxed Storage (1984-2023) since then ( other obligations...Family, Work, University, Health etc)...Now that I am Semi-Retired, I can do a Lazarus on all my HO stuff as well as doing my 0n42 QGR 1930s Diorama ( working, scratchbuilt).
Merry Christmas and a Happy & Prosperous New Year.
BTW, will be getting a Bespoke 3D Printer capable of doing 1:48 scale Colonial type Locos and Rolling Stock
    ( 40' average).

GWR Pick up goods set, c1976/77 ish, included in the set was a wheel wagon the OCAEN wagon, Fine Fish wagon, Kellogs wagon and a GW Brake van, a small station, level crossing junction signals a set of points , an uncoupling ramp, buffer stop, card tunnel (with plastic ends) and a kit form goods shed. gave many years service!

I had this exact same engine in the early 90s, was bought from a second hand model railway shop in Bridlington. On their layout it ran superb, on mine it didn't run so well at all. Even back then it wasn't a realistic looking model, and how it ran made it unusable as a shunter on my layout regardless of which power supply I used. Great video BTW, I wonder if it was my old model you have, I never mistreated it but anything could have happened after I parted with it.

However, removing the paint is a serious challenge. 4 different types of stripper have failed to do anything. I'd be grateful for any hints from viewers.

Great to see these old Tri-ang locos running well again. Just wondering if you've ever considered 3D printing a motor cradle for the old X03/X04 type chassis so you could fit a more modern, motor into them. New finer scale wheels and added pick ups might be good. It would be interesting to see the difference between two, outwardly, similar locos, but one has a more modern mechanism.
