Fun fact: The Thomas Car isn't a knockoff. Its a offical item made by Tomica! And Tomica made more Thomas models. And there licensed by Mattel. Its based on a song called "You can only be you" Were Thomas imagines if he wasn't tank engine.
That’s right. The Thomas Car is from the Dream Tomica range. Dream Tomica is a line of toy vehicles that makes vehicles out of popular characters, and Thomas is one of them. He was also made into a bus one time!

My dad once bought me an el cheapo Skarloey that looked exactly like the one in the video. Only difference is, my Skarloey has a loads of glue that attaches the chassis, and ON TOP OF THAT, It's applied backwards! He came with a tanker that got the same treatment. I actually wethered the tanker, and it came out beautifully.
Fun fact! Rusty used to have a smaller face in the earlier seasons. When his large scale model was built they gave him a larger face, which they also carried it over to his CGI model.

The die cast trains are actually a pretty great line of Thomas merch. That's one of the main merch lines I have from childhood. Also, except for the fact that he's orange, the Duncan is actually pretty good.

Not just Thomas,but also real trains,IIRC OO9 uses N Gauge Track and OO9 is basically Narrow Gauge for OO Gauge,The Bachmann Thomas Engines are N Gauge so yeah,he should make a narrow gauge layout,Bachmann is also releasing a Double Fairlie,Baguley Drewry diesel and Quarry Hunslet,Bachmann has released a 10-12D Baldwin and Peco is also releasing a George England class,all of these Locomotives are great narrow gauge locomotives

This is currently my three-year-old son's favourite RUclips video (he loves your channel!). Thank you for teaching him the words 'monstrosity', 'abomination' and 'experimenting'. The look on the nursery staff's faces was priceless 🤣🤣 You'll also be pleased to hear that he's had his entire class making a conga line behind him in the playground being the coaches to his Sir Nigel Gresley 🚂😁
A few things. 1. I think that Lady might be legit, in case your wondering it's from the Take Along/ Take 'N' Play range, the diecast range that replaced the Ertl diecast range back in the early 2000's. 2. There actually is a character named Ruth, but she's a human, not an engine. 3. That diecast Spencer appears to be a knock off of the talking Take 'N' Play Spencer, because of the raised area on the cab, where the button would go for it to talk. 4. The wooden Rusty is a knock off the TWR Rusty, from 2001-2011. That version of Rusty is based on the small scale model from s4 where his face was considerably smaller. In s5 they replaced the small scale n gauge engines with new large scale models, and because of this Rusty's went from tiny, to missive. 5. The Thomas car is an official product, part of the Tomica die cast range, sold exclusively in Japan, by Tomy. 6. The wooden Spencer is a knock off of the Shocked face Spencer, that was one of exclusive pieces in the TWR 'Edward the Great Set' from 2006. Pretty much the only knock offs here, are the wooden engines, diecast Thomas and Spencer. Everything ells seems legit, still good video btw.

13:29 On Rusty’s original Series 4 model His face was small and didn’t take up the whole of his front, However the Series 4 models had a short career and the crew made large scale models and Rusty’s face was enlarged for some reason, probably to make the eye mechanism work better.

Tomica is a Japanese company, the writing on the box is also in Japanese and it is an official, licensed product. I'm going online now to try and buy that Thomas car it looks great! As it says "made in Vietnam" on the underside I understand how you may have thought it was by a Vietnamese company. No idea what is going on with the wooden Rusty though, that 'thing' is horrific and that wooden Spenser's face looks like a blow up doll!

Fun fact: the wheel on the Henry and Spencer are like that on the official wooden railway models, the bo-bo design let's the bigger engines go around curves on the wooden track easier

When you see a knockoff keep this in mind. Toys tear quicker, Clothing tears quicker, etc.
The lady is real it’s just a different type of merchandise
Edit: Spencer, Thomas, Clarabel and the fat controllers car are all real products too, they’re take n play/ take along models
They're knock-offs. The Spencer, Lady, Thomas, Clarabel and Fat Controller's car were casted from real take alongs/take-n-plays. Hence why they had the Gullane trademark at the bottom. But they were still illegally manufactured, making them fakes. You can tell by the Phillips head screws they had underneath. Real take alongs don't use screws.

I Noticed You Called Henry A Bo-Bo And Rusty Has A Tiny Face But They Sorta Resemble The Actual Real Licensed Wooden Railway Models, Despite Henry Getting A Redesign In 2022 With The Accurate 4-6-0 Config And Also Rusty, In Season 4 Did Have A Pretty Small Face, And His Original Wooden Railway Design Had A *teeny tiny* Face And The Photo You Showed Was In The 12th Season (Correct Me If Im Wrong Im Correcting You So Feel Free Lol) Also, Yes Sam, Yes, That Is Molly. Not *jAsMiNe* Edit: Also I Did Have A Knock-Off Wooden Railway Engine It Was Paxton, And It Had Wrong Way Magnets Also That Toby Is Horrible, Thank You For Throwing Them Out And I Forgot To Mention That You Should Compare All Of Them To The Actual *“Counterparts”* (Emily Thomas And Rosie Now Red, Also Got A Redesign) Also That Metal Thomas And All Of The Alloy Models Are Exactly The Same As The “Take-A-Long” Range That’s All!
When I was very young, I had that exact same model of Lady. (aprox 16 years ago) purchased from Toys R Us, So I don't think it's a knock off.
However the annoying style of magnet used on that model meant it didn't connect with any of my other trains
I had only Thomas trains with that style of mangnet.
There are knockoff Lady's that look extremely similar to the official product, so yes, it's probably a knockoff.
What kind of magnets do the other locomotives have?

The Thomas car was from the great race, the one scene where Thomas was wishing he was stronger. It’s a capsule Plarail toy and it’s official. I believe the take along lady is also official.

19:35 I think I have a copy of that Duncan. Didn't buy it myself, definitely the weirdest Christmas present I ever received. The magnets are inverted, and my real wooden Duncan puts this model to shame. Great video nonetheless. It was pretty funny all the way through.

Yeah I watched to the end and the bin is definately the right place for them, Sam. But, seriously, don't leave the bin bag where children might find it, these things are downright dangerous, you found one loose part, and there are sure to be many more bits that come away easily.... choking hazard for youngsters... and I bet a lot of the paint is poisonous too.
I noticed that all the tender engines never came with their tenders which means the tender might mean you have to pay extra to get them…

15:10 Funny you say that steam locomotives don't have gears when locomotives like Shays and Climaxes exist (models of them are pretty easy to find, but they are expensive and often run on a narrower gauge.)
It's also worth noting that many of the official toys did have reduced wheel counts for the sake of performance and structural integrity. Plus, Gullane hasn't existed since 2003.

The Take along Lady model is a knock off, from what I’ve heard the paint has lead and the screws are a good indicator of if it’s fake or not. Most the real take along models have imbedded screws, not ones you can really unscrew unless you have a drill. The knock off Thomas wooden railway models have been in circulation for a long time. You can find em on eBay when just looking for normal wooden railway models.
The sad, yet hilarious part is that much of this is better quality than the modern official Thomas merch
I figured someone would say that, so I figured I would hold off on making it myself until I checked. To be fair to Mattel, at least they glue the parts on and apply the paint straight.

I actually had one of those Metal Thomas's & the Matching Lady when I was a kid (In fact I've still got her set on my desk to this day), they were from the "Take & Play" line of toys, so congrats you actually did get some legit merchandise out of this! :D

Hey sam! Just wanted to say the reason why Molly is called " Jasmine " and a few other characters having strange names is because of copy right issues, another thing I would like to point out is the toby model used road vehicle wheels.
Hi Sam. Brilliant video. Sat watching it with my oldest son. We were rolling round the floor with laughter. He actually has the fat controller car for Take and Play.
I actually used to grow up with some of these (Rosie/Ruth, Jasmine/Molly, Skarloey, a wooden version of Lady, a character named Flora, and Henry.) and 2 year old me thought they were real until the wheels broke off of most of them. I do still hold a special place in my heart for these knockoffs 😅.

Peter Griffin: This is worse than the time we got Chinese bootlegs of Wooden trains.
A fun fact about Rusty, their face size changed, the big face is a later change. I believe if you go earlier in the model series Rusty’s face is smaller. Also I don’t think there were mustaches, on engines, really appeared in the series until the late CGI era. Thomas, I feel I should mention, has changed a lot with items like flying Thomas and stuff like that (I’m not trying to hate on Mattel, who now own T&F)
It was interesting to see the real and the fake mixed in with each other. Also are you sure you aren’t a slight Thomas fan, knowing all these characters?

Sad thing is, these knock offs look better than the most recent wooden Thomas releases… good lord, Mattel got seriously lazy… uncut pieces of wood with some paint work,that makes no attempt to look good. Like, a lot of the edges are unpainted, it’s ridiculous
My first thought upon seeing Toby's face wasn't so much that he had growths, but rather it gave me the impression that he was holding back sick...
So I’ve gathered 2 things from this video
1. You’ve never played with older wooden Thomas models
2. A lot of these are manufacture defects I think, a lot of these models I had as a kid however not nearly as demented lol

I think the metal ones (with the thin long magnets) are from the take-along range, which seemed to replace the ERTL diecast range around 15 years ago.
The photo you showed of Rusty is his large scale model, his small scale model did have a smaller face compared to the front of the loco, but not as small as that one.
I hope that Thomas car becomes a permanent fixture on the Sam's Trains layout.
TBH the wooden thomas toys aren't meant to be prototypical. I had loads when I was younger (they're still in my grandma's garage), and everything was either 0-4-0, 0-6-0, or Bo-Bo. Don't think I had any models with larger wheels like Emily and Molly seen here. At one point, I did have Oliver and Annie and Clarabel, but I put them by the piano one day, went to the toilet, and when I came back, they were gone, never to be seen again.
These cheap purchases are something else, though.
