For me the greatest voice in rock n roll. Whether it be Money, Dizzy Miss Lizzie, Twist And Shout, New York City etc etc, it just doesn't get any better than that. Still love you John x
Promoting the "Rock and Roll" album track by track, Lennon guested on Scott Muni's show on WNEW, even doing commercials. Muni was a friend of his; their sons had been born in the same hospital at the same time.
I recommend listening to his song "Beautiful boy" it was one of his songs from his last album at first the song dedicated to his son Sean was tender but it became a sad song after shortly after publishing it he passed away I think it's a very brother song
I wish you would make yourselves smaller so we could see MORE of the video! Can only see HALF of it. "STAND BY ME" was first performed by the great BEN E. KING in 1961 ( I was 14 years old then) and John Lennon's first son JULIAN (with John's first wife Cynthia), ALSO sang "STAND BY ME" in the early '80s at the end of his concerts, as sort of a tribute to his Dad. He would perform it in much the same style has his Dad did here. JULIAN has a great voice and sounds so much like his Dad. Too bad this wasn't the video where near the end of the song, he says "hello JULIAN" into the mic. SO NICE.
Factoid- Howard Winkler within the past year or so finally told Johns wife that they (Howard WInkler and John Lennon) had met and spoke the day before his death. it took that many years but from what the interview was said is that he made a promise not sure why but thats a long time to keep that in but her reaction was..wild. Also other version in thought you mentioned was from Nat King Cole.
Like former bandmate George Harrison, John Lennon also got into copyright trouble. With him, it was "Come Together", which bore too much similarity to Chuck Berry's 1956 "You Can't Catch Me". The rights to that one were owned by Morris Levy, of Roulette Records, who sued. In settlement, Lennon agreed to record an album of rock oldies with three Levy-owned titles. Phil Spector produced some of the tracks on John's "Rock And Roll" LP, then hijacked the tapes and held onto them. In the interim, Lennon put out "Walls and Bridges". The "Rock And Roll" album finally came out in February 1975, to less-than-stellar reviews. John quit making music for several years thereafter to concentrate on parenting son Sean, only returning to the studio shortly before his death.
This one I never liked at all, he missed a couple verses and his repeating the same thing "Stand by me" over and over in his voice grates like raw nerves on a cheese grater for some reason. I love his music and singing, but his cover of this classic is what i have always thought was the perfect example of what NOT to do when covering someone else's song. Ben E. King for me the whole way, I have yet to find a better singer recording.
I don't really share your antipathy to this cover, but I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed by the "Rock 'N Roll" album overall. I was really glad that John didn't end his recording career with it. Spector's production was awful, IMO -- as usual, too much goop.
One of my favourite songs. Love John Lennon's version ❤
I had no idea he covered that song. I like it 😊
Ok, I wasn't expecting to get so emotional over this, but here we are... though, i should've know.
Love John’s voice. It’s known that he actually didn’t like his voice Well John we love you and your voice❤😢😅
You don’t miss with John!
Best version JohnLennon is my music hero nr 1 he will never be forgotten ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Me too John ❤
I’ve always liked Johns version of this song. 💯

Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller, and Ben E. King wrote it. It is one of the greatest ballads ever penned.
Terrific review guys - you captured the love of Lennon
awesome song..john did it right
Love it. This one even more than the Ben E. King original (?).

TRY COME TOGETHER.. BEATLES... Say no more ☮️👍 yes
I don't know about awards but I'm sure they have made a lot of money. So, yeah...
please do working class hero and mind games. Love you guys!
I'm sorry for the detractors of John Lennon's version of the song but he killed it and made it his own. Absolutely gorgeous version!
I miss John and George.
You should play John Lennon's cover of Ted Nugent's Wang Dang Sweet Poontang. Yoko does the moaning part.
She always did.
Me quedo con Ben E King toda la vida
I'm gonna get some hate, but John's is better than the original. Great story gurl.
