      Nice thing about this route is it is essentially flat with just a few short hills mostly around Glenmore. You can make it a bit more challenging if you want some ascents by climbing up into the neighborhoods around Fish Creek but then you may also find that you miss a turn or have to do some backtracking. Be prepared for lots of walkers, runners and particularly bikers on the weekends. There are long sections that are pretty quiet because they are far enough from subdivisions but in the major parks and downtown keep your eyes open and be prepared to brake.

    I have 3 favorite routes in Calgary,,, with my e bike :) I live in the NE so that's my starting point. Similar to her route but I take it all way down to Fish Creek Park, bike across the park to the other end and ride up to Glen more reservoir and back to DT and up to NE. The trail that leads to the tip of NW from NE to DT and cycle straight NW all the way to the end, beautiful view's. Last but not least the trail to Chestermere from NE, Ride is fairly flat but relaxing.

    • @erika_pablo
      @erika_pablo  3 месяца назад

      The one bad thing about the ride to Chestermere are all the cracks on the pathway near the start! Sometimes there are also a lot of mosquitos by the canal. Other than that, easy and flat!

    Thanks, Erika! I do a portion of this loop every weekday on my way back and forth to work - I feel so fortunate to be able to enjoy the beautiful Glenmore Reservoir every day and some days, go as far as downtown to meet a friend. Also live proximate to Fish Creek so know that let well. I look forward to doing the whole loop this summer - thanks for sharing! When friends ask me what they should do if they only have a couple days to visit Calgary, I say "Rent a bike!" (and visit me, of course!😉) I look forward to your other guided tours!

    Such a great video! One of my favourite loops as well. The only bad part about it in my opinion are the frequent 'pits' (maybe not the right word) when riding in fish creek park just before and after Annie's cafe. They are small but frequent and when you do this loop a lot they become really annoying.
    I sometimes tie this loop together with one that goes around the north which is about 40km and when you get back you'll hit almost exactly 100km.

    I've been on your route, it was very nice before they put in the freeway, a nice path around the west side of Glenmore. When I lived downtown, my favourite loop was downtown, up the deerfoot valley, around nose hill, then down through Edgeworthy, past Market Mall, and down that hill on Home Road, that lead down to the river and back downtown. The path we took had very few places where we had to deal with lights and busy street crossing. There are bridges and tunnel cut in all the right spots for a convenient underpass in all the right spots.

    Thanks for reminding me that I need to do this specific ride! I've ridden it all in separate journeys, but never one go. I will add that the Fish Creek pathway on the eastern end has gotten pretty bumpy in recent years, and it gets a little sketchy between Lindsay Park and Stampede, but this is definitely among the best rides in Calgary.

    My Only problem with calgary pathway is their stupid speed limit. A lot of these paths are 10km max, which is hilarious and ridiculous at the same time. My friend got ticketed $400 for going faster than 10km on his Carbon bike around calgary Zoo. Which is crazy when I usually do 15km on my run days when I'm not on a road bike😂😂😂

    • @svens4493
      @svens4493 4 месяца назад +6

      No that’s not true. The speed limit on the multi-use pathways is 20kph unless otherwise posted. In areas that are popular where you will encounter a lot of people using the MUP you can expect to see a sign lowering the speed to 10kph.

    • @michaelkelly747
      @michaelkelly747 3 месяца назад +4

      I have cycled around the north MUP on the north side of the Bow by the zoo many times and there are only a couple of spots where there are 10 km limits and they are near blind corners and reflect the fact that there are runners and walkers using that path. And the only time I have seen police officers anywhere around the area have been when they are working on moving people suffering from homelessness out of the area or the area west of the zoo where there are frequently a lot of people suffering from homelessness but also addiction. I have no idea why you think that someone on a carbon bike thinks that somehow gets him/her a pass on sensible speed limits in a potentially congested area but I suspect it wasn’t 20km/hr that got the ticket but a much higher speed. There are a lot of the paths with long sightlines. Feel free to open it up on those.

    • @sammydavis991
      @sammydavis991 3 месяца назад +1

      It’s 10 km/h in very few spots and those spots are obviously that speed when shared with pedestrians at high traffic areas.

    • @njcanuck
      @njcanuck 3 месяца назад +1

      Man, if only people went even 30 km/hr. So sick of people screaming up behind me- no bell or yell. Stressful to walk on the paths. I've never seen Enforcement out. Probably only downtown in very busy spots.
