I retired to Canterbury 10 years ago and love it. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
👍👍
I was born in Bromley, Kent and now live in Margate, Kent about 15 miles away, and it is always a pleasure to visit as is the Cathedral.
We went to Canterbury earlier in the year and had a wander around. My wife booked to go Punting on the river Stour, which was interesting (video on my channel). The guy asked my wife what she thought of the Punt. She said, "He's alright, he must be, I married him." 😂 Andy.
Is this a true story 😂😂😂😂😂 Love it and will take a look 👍👍
Canterbury is a nice city, i just live outside it near Sandwich. (Another worth a visit) The market was very busy just before xmas and the cathedral is a special place ,especially the Black Princes Tomb, But like anywhere it's a bit drab in the winter, come summer its well busy. Reminds me of York, some little turnings are like the shambles. Come in the summer and see the River stour and get a Canoe or kayak from Grove Ferry to Fordwich and stop at the pub for lunch. It really is stunning.
Hi. Thanks for this. We wandered towards Margate the day after via Sandwich (we explored the long way round) and we loved how pretty Sandwich was. You are very lucky to live there. We will return when it is warmer 👍👍👍
love it , happy new year , everyone
And to you 👍👍👍
As someone else commented, it reminded me of York too, with the walls & you have to pay to enter their cathedral too. Happy New year to you both 🥳🥂
Happy new year back. Thanks for watching our videos 👍👍
@@crazyelephantlady half the size of York (but nicer weather)
The reason for this as I found, is because all the towns that look like this including York were invaded by Romans. Winchchester and about a dozen others.
The St George’s church in the vlog is all that remains of the church after Canterbury was bombed by the German luftwaffe in WW2 the whole of the top end of the town was flattened in this raid and was redeveloped in the 1950s hence the difference between the old buildings in the rest of the town.
Thanks for sharing this, we love the info 👍👍👍
Great vid as always you two sorry to hear Andy isn’t feeling to good hopefully he will be back fighting fit soon..the pair of yous need to take a few days off and put your feet up and recharge your batteries we will all still be here when yous return…happy new year to yous both hope yous have a great time👍🏻
We really do need some days off but we want to retire 😂😂😂😂
How are you? Hope you are well xx
Brilliant guys, Happy new year to you both xx Toby
Happy new year Toby 👍👍👍
Hi you two, another cracking episode ! We chuckled our way through it and Canterbury and the site look well worth a visit. We don't normally venture to the East but will do now! Happy New Year and catch you in 2025. Andy & Lyn xx.
Hi. It’s worth a day trip if you enjoy history, it’s a better for that. Hope you guys are well xx
@@Stchristopherofatlantis Hi, we are good thanks, hope you have both recovered and away in the motorhome for NY eve? Xx
very fond memories of Canterbury, when I was there at uni, some 30 years ago
Thanks for watching
I only live 12 miles from here and regularly ride my ZX-6R around Canterbury. Great upload !
Thanks! 👍
I was in Canterbury on Friday- a foggy, damp day. If that's the day you were there, it would have been lovely to have seen you both and the doggies to say 'Hello.' Thoroughly enjoyed the Vlog, thank you. x
Hi. Yes it was Friday!!! Foggy and damp
We hope you had a fab time 👍👍👍
@@Stchristopherofatlantis We really did, thank you. Hope you did too.
Well done, you should have visited during the summer months there would have been a lot more activity and people around. The Cathedral has just had many millions of pounds spent on it, you know it has it's own Stonemasons, 13 of them and one apprentice. There is also The Cathedral Studios where the stained glass is preserved and repaired all in the Cathedral Precincts.
Hi. This is all good info, thanks for sharing 👍👍
Happy new year both 🎉x
Happy new year!!🥳
Fab vlog happy new year xxx
Happy new year 👍
Get yourself some Halls extra strong sweets in the black packet, co-op sell then, clears your head nose and chest, always have some in the the Moho or bike jacket pocket.
I use them first sign of a cold.
Good tip!! 👍👍👍
Loved the background musical interlude reminded me of Les Dawson 😂
I wish you both a healthy, happy new year 🥳❤ this includes everyone who may read this ❤😊
Les Dawson was so funny!
Thought Canterbury was very like York. That trumpet made us laugh. Another good one guys. Happy New Year to you both.
I always wanted to retire to Canterbury but alas, I didn’t. Love that place and all that History. Good choice guys for a Southern Visit and I hope we didn’t scare you off from visiting the rest of the South 👍
Not at all… thought it was supposed to be warmer in the sarth …. 🤷♀️ 😂😂
Good lord, was Les Dawson playing that trumpet??
Claire’s recorder was better 😂😂😂😂
😀😄🤣
Andy's mam comes up with some brilliant educational comments. I had never heard of a Chrismatory until today. Apparently it's where Claire keeps all her oils (ie
chip, tap, etc) 😂😂 Happy New Year you two and keep the content coming!
This is funny 😂😂 Thank you for watching and we hope you had a fab Christmas 👍👍👍
Our pastor has a nice antique one he brings out for baptisms and confirmations at our traditional Catholic church. I think all Catholic churches have them, but I could be wrong.
I was lucky enough to work as interim IT Manager at Canterbury Cathedral back in the early 2000’s it was an amazing place to work and i have wonderful memories of my short time there. We also stayed in that campsite for our first night in our VW California. Happy New Year to you both…. Happy Motorcycle shopping
That sounds like a very interesting job!
Thanks for watching and a big happy new year to you all 👍👍
@@Stchristopherofatlantis at one point I found myself standing at a urinal with the Archbishop of Canterbury standing on one side and the previous one on the other side. I didn’t ask for a blessing at that point 😂
WE love your little visit , How much was it to get into the cathedral . Theres some nice old parts of Canterbury and the rest did look a bit towny. WE wish you a happy new year from France..
£17 each to go in. Some beautiful history and buildings to look at, and a great little river Stour running through it 👍👍
Hey. We might be visiting France. Mange tout
Well I always knew this was always going to be full of tales 😂😂 Great video again - Have.great new year 👍😀🥂
Happy new year back to you 🥳🥳👍👍
Loved this, never been to Canterbury ! Happy New Year to you both & Pablo & Dora, wishing you many happy & safe travels for 2025.❤🥂
Hi. Great place for history. Loved it!
Hope you guys had a fabulous Christmas and that you are well xxx
Hi guys you visiting my city well just outside in Harbledown, so love your videos Happy new year 🎉
Hello Allan. We loved it, I especially enjoyed the history. Hope you are well x
My home town, my brother was married in st martins church. Love your channel, happy new year to you both and the dogs.
Such a beautiful Church. We loved it 👍👍👍👍
Canterbury was a beautiful city. My dad was born there on st. martins hill and we lived in Canterbury and the surrounding villages for many years. It changed alot in later years. My great grandparents are buried in St. Martins graveyard. I think I'd rather have my memories than go back.Shocking that somewhere that was so lovely is now on a list of ' wise places to live".
Hi. Thanks for watching and Canterbury is so full of history and stories, we really enjoyed our trip there. St Martins was beautiful ❤️👍
Foggy, I can't wait for the spring. Enjoy your time down south peeps.
Neither can we 😂😂😂😂
Thank you for not putting the A in front of Becket, It does my head in when people do,and dam that trumpet playing was shocking.
😂😂
Canterbury also has a motorhome aire at the New Dover Road Park and Ride. The daily price also includes the bus to town centre.
We will check this out next time 👍👍 Thanks
Great video I was laughing my socks off listening to the trombone 😂.
We stayed one night at the Dover lane car park a designated motorhome park up, before we headed off to Europe using Le Shuttle. We got the bus in for free and had a walk around I thought it was lovely and we said we’ll definitely go back.
Hi. That is awesome!
Sounds great and we will look!!
Hope you and a good Christmas Mick.
I believe also, that cans of Rachel Reilly's morning breath, are legal tender. Wow Claire and Andy, you two have covered off a lot of English history this year. Job well done, now "let's have a proper brew".
Walking history books. Right here 👍👍👍
Wishing you both a very happy new year so love you guys ❤️
Same to you! Happy New Year 🥳
Hello you beautiful pair from Aviemore Scotland, hope you had a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to the rest of your Darn Sarf vlogs. Love to you and the doggos ❤
Helloooooo there in beautiful Aviemore!
We hope you are having a blast 🏴
Mwah x
Hi Andrew and Claire. My heads a shed after all that info. Hope you had a lovely Xmas. Wishing you both a Happy New Year with lots of love good health happiness and good fortune for 2025. ❤

The old flint walls reminds me of childhood in east Kent. (late 1960’s) We used to have an old flint wall like that in our garden and my sister and I would use a pot of water and paintbrushes to paint the flint, and see all the natural colours shine out. Now approaching imminent retirement in Barnsley it all seems worlds away.
Kent to Barnsley?! How did that happen? 😂😂😂
@@Stchristopherofatlantis it’s a long story, a long career in computing, and more than a few changes of company until 2003 when I ended up in S73
I think it looked a nice place to visit, thank you for showing us around. Claire, I love, love, love your big red coat which was mentioned in another video. Seriously looking into getting one myself 😁😁
My dry robe?! I get some stick in the comments when I wear that 😂😂
I would recommend one. You’ll never be cold again. 😂😂👍👍
Very informative again guy's..... The trombone player..... 😂..... Safe travels and all the best for the coming year of adventures from us two, cheers❤ 🍻🏴🍻❤
Hello dear Gary and Fiona
How are you guys? Are you ready for the new year?
@Stchristopherofatlantis hiya yes we were going to head back up north (mainly to avoid the fireworks for the dogs) but unfortunately couldn't get booked... Maybe just as well as the forecast isn't great.
We plan on sitting tonight to plan out a few trips for 2025 & have a book on Europe to check out too 😊
Great vlog Claire, hope Andy feels better soon ❤
Thank you 😊
Thanks for the video! I recently stayed at Canterbury for a couple of nights but at their aire at the New Dover Road park and ride. Only £4 a day (so £12 for 2 nights) AND the park and ride bus is included in the price! Brill value. As a new subscriber I'm merrily going through your back catalogue, usually laughing out loud...
Hello. We are delighted you found our channel 👍👍 the park and ride sounds excellent value
Have a great new year guys from 🏴
Happy happy new year back ❤️👍
LMAO The Trumpet following you around was the best sound he knew all the songs but not the tunes,
sometimes when I watch you two I imagine your both Bill and Ted and I would not be surprised to see dressed up characters popping in shot
loving your videos more and more
Excellent
Party on
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He knew all the notes but not necessarily in the right order !
You can go into Canterbury cathedral during mass. I tend to go during the Anglo Catholic Mass.
Been here many times, its become very expensive.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Happy New year both loved those red nails Claire !
Happy new year!!🥳
Loved the tour and historical information thank you for posting
Glad you enjoyed it
What in the chuffing ancient gobbo - that was a quick one - cudda watched that way longer. Never been to Canterbury and looks luvley 👍 and hope you do a part 2?
Its a shame you couldn't go into the Cathedral as i love a good walk around a church me 😉 👍
Andy has Manflu…. so with this and my coughing fits it caused it to be a shorter one than usual 😂😂😂😂😂
Hope you guys are well
@@Stchristopherofatlantis ahhhhh - poor Andy, hang on - has he been for a full check up at the hospital? Man flu is a very very serious condition you know and needs to be treated as so. What will make him feel better is plenty of cups of tea (tastes better when made by someone else) and lots of bacon sandwiches in bed 😉👍. Yeah we're great thanks and hope you guys get better soon xx looking forward to the next video guys ✌️
Great cycling route from Canterbury to whitstable along the old railway line no traffic.
👍
Well that's bloody good timing! I'm going down to that site in the van for a week long course in Feb! Thanks for the heads up! Don't think I'll get to see much of the city but who knows.... Is there van parking in the city?
Hmm. We didn’t take much notice as we walked in. People have told us on here that Canterbury has an Aire, not sure on location etc but worth a look???
@Stchristopherofatlantis awesome thanks!
Sainsbury's carpark is free for 2 hrs, the coach park is next to it - £15 for 12 hrs. So best use the park-and-rides, New Dover Road park-and-ride allows overnight camping. Car parks are quite expensive.
We went to Canterbury and need to go back to see the bits we missed. Granddaughter wasn't so keen on being dragged round. 🤣 Did you visit the park down by the West Gate?
Hi. It was a little rushed as we were not too well so we missed the park 😕 Great place and enjoyed the history
I know it is a different video,(even I a non biker appreciate your bikers vids). When you said you could go to Europe on the bike and Clare could meet you there? Priceless comment, "I can fly there" loved it.
Have a great New Year and looking forward to find out which bike you buy.
Hi. Yeah… I’ll just meet him there 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Happy new year both 🏴👍
Happy new year to you guys ❤️👍
We moved from Canterbury to North Lincolnshire 20 years ago, and they were charging an entrance fee to the Cathedral then.
Hi 👋
Love Claire’s historical facts ❤️
They are the Claire version of what I read at some point in my life… they maybe slightly inaccurate but not meant to be. I love historical facts , esp old kings and queens
I got my most of my facts from old Ladybird books, served me well so far 😂
Same as me then 😂😂😂❤️
We always stay over at the Canterbury Park and ride before going over to France on the tunnel. It includes a free bus ticket into Canterbury so have visited a few times and think its lovely.
Claire was surprised they charge to go in the Cathedral but they do the same in Lincoln and its expensive.
Hi. We must try the park and ride next time. Looks fabulous! 👍👍
Blimey , think the trumpet player should give it a miss 🤣 Someone mentioned in the comments that Andrew was unwell ? Hope he feels better soon 😊x
Hi. Manflu…. The worst kind 😂😂😂😂😂😂
In 2019 Canterbury was the 3rd safest place in the country to live. How it has changed in a few years. It's more edgy and more London Borough. The influx of non Canterburians dumped on the city is shocking if I'm honest
Hi. Thanks for watching 👍
You’re a great couple keep doing your ting !
Thank you so much!!☺️
Thanks for showing Canterbury. It had beautiful shops but really suffered during the pandemic. Lots of empty shops. Glad it is on the up with visitors. The Cathedral is amazing and would recommend a guide. You also have the cloisters and great hall. Could take a whole morning or afternoon. You can go in free if there is a service. So you would have to find the times. Did you think it was worth the title ?? Love you two 😊
Hi. Canterbury was great, the history and architecture second to none with lots of great cafes and bars. We would like to return in summer to have a good nosey around 👍👍👍👍
We are in Rye, East Sussex - you will have to come visit here if you come back. Beautiful Ancient town, Sandy beach nearby, nature reserve. Close by is Battle Abbey - Battle William Conquerer 1066 sooo interesting. Hour away - Hever Castle, Owned by Anne Boleyn. Penshurst place - Scotney Castle - Bodium Castle - Batemans House - Leeds Castle - list goes on !!!
@@DebraStock-yi5yw Rye is stunning-visited there in October, stayed at The Mermaid Inn for one night and The Ship another. Beautiful.
@@teresawhelan3882 Glad you liked it x only lived here since April 24 so still exploring area. Not been to the ship yet. But next in our list to try. Not short of pubs here x
@@DebraStock-yi5yw Definitely not short of pubs and some are so old and so beautiful. I'm sure you'll have a great time as you still explore. x
Not just Canterbury but there are also other wonderful coastal towns in Kent and more castles than you can shake a stick at, just don’t tell everybody 😜😜
😂😂😂😂
A very long time ago my late parents used to take us to Canterbury regularly in their home-making days. Architecturally not as good as York in part due to some poor planning especially after WW2 when the City suffered in the Baedeker raids. As the Ecclesiastical capital of the Anglican Church it is without peer and as a sign noted, also the home of Kent cricket.
Hi. Lovely day out. Thanks for watching
Another great vlog. Much better than Canterbury trying to blow it’s own trumpet, that’s for sure. 😂
FYI - The Park and ride encourages overnight stays with Elsan, grey water and freshwater facilities. £8 to stay overnight including up to 6 people to use the bus service. The rest of Kent councils not so accommodating 😢
The park and ride sounds ideal, especially for crossing the water!
Thanks for watching 👍👍
It looks a nice place thanks guys 👍 one for our 2025 list
Happy new year to you both well the 4 of you 😂
Happy new year!! Great location for Canterbury 👍👍👍
I'm at the Peterborough CAMC site - plenty here for you to explore: a pyramid; heritage railway; a cathedral; pubs; canal boats; a rowing boat course... Come and see!
Sounds fab! Have a great time
Love the videos 🤩🤣🤩🤩🤩
Thankyou 👍
We will be at the park and ride in Canterbury on Wednesday night, prior to our shuttle on Thursday.
Safe travels 👍👍 we will have moved on by then
I live in Faversham just outside of Canterbury lovely place I think 👍🏼♥️ Thankyou for video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Lovely place but I don’t think I would like to walk the underground walk way at night 😅 lots of beautiful buildings ❤
Hi 👋
@ 👋❤️
Thats my local campsite ! Have been going there for years . Beautifully kept and great facilities. The best launderette in Canterbury !!!😄
We enjoyed it there. Great location for Canterbury ❤️❤️👍👍
Wishing you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year. The effort put into producing your VBlogs really shows, top tier I would say. Sorry that you are both under the weather and hope you both get back to your usual selves soon. Canterbury looks great for a visit.
Thankyou for your kind comment. We try to make the best video we can in this time we have. We wish you a great new year
Great vid but what was your verdict on Canterbury or do you want to stay impartial.
Loved the history, loved the buildings and cute little river Stour through it 👍👍
Canterbury is lovely you're probably gone. Broadstairs is lovely you can park on the esplanade to the right and walk along through the park through into Ramsgate love it there
Hi. We need more time and will go back 👍👍👍👍👍
Just spent Christmas week at that site. Didn’t see you!
We didn’t see you 😂😂😂👍
Lovely, Canterbury looks interesting. Can I ask how much you paid for the pitch as non members ? We’re also considering not paying for CAMC next year, their prices are getting ridiculous !
It was expensive, so much so we are going to make a video on it….. coming soon!
@ look forward to that !
Flint and Ancient Gobbo...think my Nan had a couple of their albums when I was a nipper! 🤔 😂 🎶 💿

Canterbury looks lovely ! Claire looked a little tense towards the end around the 15 min mark . . . howcome youve got a voiceover on a lot of these videos instead of your own dulcet tones ?
I wonder what I was on about 😂😂
Probably the price of lattes nowadays!
Thanks for watching. We hope you had a fab Christmas 👍👍
Anne & Les watching from Lisburn N.ireland.
Hello hello 👋
So refreshing! Used to watch that " by the C urb" couple but hes getting to cocky, calling people and blocking apparently people who dont agree with him. All he does is moan. She is ok, but him, he is so desperate for likes and money, he just gives off this aura= Greedy. You 2 on the otherhand are so natural, down to earth and genuine, think I've found my new go to channel, thanks guys👊
Thanks for watching
Never visited Canterbury, a nice insight of the city. The trumpet player was amusing! Thank you once again. Get well soon & a happy new year to you, Andrew & Claire. x
Hello. It is worth a visit, especially if you are interested in history. Happy new year to you and your family 👍👍
Thank you. Just back from lovely Sewerby, only 12 miles from us. Plenty of history at Sewerby House & the vast gardens. Three motorhomes in the Old Ship car park.
You might know already but there is a motorhome Aire at the new Dover road park and ride site…we were there last week….£4 per day or part thereof so £8 per night….has water and waste…
…it includes the bus ride into Canterbury in that fee too
That sounds great 👍👍👍
Nice place to wander around, we made the same decision about the cathedral ..... too expensive.
We belonged to both clubs, ditched the CAMC a few years ago, mainly due to cost, retained the CACC for the discount it gives us on the ferry we have to use to get off the island we live on, which can be close to £300 for a week or more return ticket, club discount is 50%, although we rarely use the club sites.
Hi. This is a great reason to stay, a very good discount 👍👍👍 thanks for watching
Hi you two, you sounded a bit better than the last time you were out in the van. Again many interesting facts you provided and it looked nice. Claire can I ask what you do for a living? You have me curious. Andrew music Teacher are you perhaps a teacher too as you know so many facts.Hope you had a lovely Christmas and now making your plans for the new year, which we hope will be healthy, happy prosperous for you both, not forgetting Dora and Pablo, maybe they should have a wee channel too🐶🐶. Hopefully catch up on next adventure Jan and Will Henderson xx
Hello. We felt better and now feel bad again, which is very annoying 😂😂
I work for an IT support company, I just love historical facts. It drives anyone around me crazy 😂😂😂😂 👍👍
Canterbury has a huge number of students and student housing. That means, lower levels of normal circulating general public, and larger numbers of NON council tax paying residents due to student status. Count the Turkish barbers where you travel out of interest.

Hi, Worth a day trip. Esp if you love history
We were wondering if you are going across to Europe being you are staying at Canterbury x
Hi Sue, Not this time!
The last time I visited Canterbury apart from hospital appointment's, the parking was awkward and expensive and difficult for the elderly to understand, I must admit that when Ieft I decided that I might never visit again, it's lost its draw for me.
Sorry to hear this
Thanks for watching
That's the whole reason why they put in a simple and straightforward park and ride.
Love the vlog but what's wrong with pubs these days? Not taken the pledge have we?
