Like Homelander in that one animated episode when he was actually trying to do good but screwed up then freaked out by both the hostage’s & terrorist’s reactions.

I love how each season of The Boys has had a different theme that sticks throughout the entire Season. Some have a couple, but I feel like the main ones are: Season One: Love (Butcher and Becca, Hughie and Starlight, MM and his wife, Frenchie and Kimiko) Season Two: Manipulation (Stormfront’s online persona, Homelander and Ryan) Season Three: Strength (Temp-V, Soldier Boy, Toxic Masculinity) Season Four: The Past (Butcher and Becca, Hughie and his Mom, Homelander and the lab, Kimiko and Shining Light, Frenchie and contract killing)
@@LuckyKlvrSyxthe main focus jackass. That’s why each season works. They’re not just jumping. They focus on one, then slip into the other while the others are still present.
Theory - Butcher is not hallucinating Becca. She is the result of him taking Compound V and is a physical second entity that resides inside him, moving worms under his skin, and him seeing Becca is just it talking to him. When he was getting choked out by Ezekiel the entity separated from him to protect him. This also looks like the entity's first time showing itself since Butcher looks genuinely surprised.

Top tier points of this ep: That Tek Knight "gaping hole" reference tho The labcoats ONLY apologizing to Homelander when they sense it's about to be over for them....not one of them showed genuine compassion or empathy...just fear...monsters beget monsters it seems I think Sage is taking down Vought, Homelander and The Boys. She sows dissension far too selectively....but anyone who casually self lobotomizes to relax is also far too intelligent and dangerous to try and predict sooo Loving it. My fav episode of the past 4 seasons, hands down(so far😂😂😂😂)
I was watching this and I realized instantly this could’ve and most likely was the beginning of Homelander’s villain origin story. I watched him kill his lab scientists and if u see how he talks to them fully it’s very traumatizing hearing how they cooked him in an oven and I realized Homelander was a way deeper villain than we realized.
Oh yeah. And now that Homelander has destroyed his “weakness”, (his love and affection), he’s going to become completely unhinged. Imagine Homelander with no one to control him. Dudes a ticking time bomb and he’s blowing up a lot sooner than the sun.
Honestly Hughie supporting Annie over the abortion was so heartfelt and genuine. He reiterated that it was something highly personal, that it was a decision she had made and had autonomy over. And that he fully supported her and backed her up. He validated her pain even though she ultimately wanted the abortion doesn't mean she was happy about it. Such a short moment but genuinely gave me a whole new appreciation for their relationship. Honestly I would love other men to model Hughies words and support to Annie should their partner ever be faced with the same decision.
I love sage almost as much as Greg does lol she’s such a fresh addition I can’t wait to see where they take her character. This episode left me EXHAUSTED
Antony Starr has been knocking it outta the park for 4 seasons but holy Christ was he on another level in this episode. He just completely displayed all he’s bought to Homelander so far. Chilling, terrifying, horrifying, fascinating… One of the best villain performances I’ve ever seen. If he doesn’t win an Emmy… then there is no justice in this world. Beyond deserving. 🙇♀️
The reason the firecracker forgiveness stuff was so great is because that literally happened in real life with a pastor who made this style of apology for the same thing and his congregation just forgave him

Dude this episode ROCKED. I know people were complaining about the start off of this season, but this scene is unarguably one of the best episodes. The last scene with the elevator straight up gave me chills
Hughie and Kimiko teaming up was something I'm glad we got. Wasn't expecting them to do that but it was welcomed. Did Hughies mum manipulate him into obtaining the Compound-V?? With all that power of eterny/pulling the plug talk. Looking back now kind of makes me feel like she was making Hughie desperate enough to take action. Either way I'm BEYOND excited to see what Simon Peggs powers will be. Wouldn't it be hilarious if the built it up at the end to make it look like he'd be eally strong or something and then BOOM.... He naked teleports. Haha. LOL.
Ooh I think you’re right about his mom. Something about her has felt off since she first showed up. I’m really excited to find out what her motivations are now
She didn’t make him get the V but once he had the chance to give it he decided that his dad would not want that and to let him die but his mom found it and gave it to his dad behind his back
@@lillianaugustine8630 Yeah, I know that. I'm saying with all the "Hughie, you can trust me" "I good in a crisis" "you're dad's gave me power of eternal" talk, it feels like she was playing the long game of manipulating Hughie into talking action and obtaining the V. If she wasn't manipulating him into getting it by making him feel uneasy about his Dad's life being in her hands, then how did she know yo swipe the V off him?? Or how did she know what it was?? Or how to administor it?? I'm pretty sure it was her plan from the moment she shows up at that hospital. It has to have been. It really is the only thing that makes sense to me. It was driving me crazy from the beginning because I knew she was up to something but I just didn't know what. At the time anyway. I'm pretty sure I'm on to something now.
Hughies Dad getting V is very interesting because he is on the complete good side of the spectrum and now he has powers. He is like the opposite Homelander, I wonder what they'll do with this.
every episode this season (and especially this episode) has made me so grateful that we have to wait 1 week between episodes. they pack so much into those 50-something minutes that I never want it to be over, but I also appreciate the week of breathing room to recover. also: the Kimiko storyline is a direct parallel to the Frenchie storyline. they both did something in their past that they regret and whether or not they were under duress when they did it, the chickens are coming home to roost.
I absolutely expect the boys to like “attack” at a moment where by coincidence sister Sage is lobotomized and that’s how they get the step ahead of her
Okay, this is the only time I genuinely feel bad for Homelander in the entire series. I don't like what he's doing in this episode, but I understand his motives. These people tortured him as a child physically and mentally and made him into the monster he now is, and now that he's relinquished his need for love, which was his leash to not go total apeshit in destroying the world, I'm anxious about what he does next in these few episodes, especially what he’ll do to Ryan
@ReelRejects "I was good to you, Mikey." To answer the trivia question, that was Ismael Cruz (Danny Trejo) telling that to Michael (Tyler Mane) when he was drowning him before slamming the TV down on his head in "Halloween" (2007).
So much going on this episode. Enjoyed it so much. Amazing acting by Antony as per usual. Excited to see Simon Pegg get some scenes. (At least where his character is conscious) Favourite episode out of the 4 so far.

The series should win an Emmy and for Anthony Starr. He has proven to be a great and terrifying homlenader. Since it gives it a touch of extreme madness. And be exceptional. Without a doubt it is incredible. He was born to be Homelander!!!
Why did Kamiko give Hughie the LEASET effective weapon.. she should've used that and gave him the Paper Cutter "sword" Very proud of Hughie in that fight though.
This episode could really be described using lyrics from the Kendrick/Drake beef: Firecracker: “I was really really tryna keep it PG.” Butcher: “Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A minor.” Starlight: “I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress.”
I think this might just be the best episode of the show so far, i mean damn Antoni starr's performance, the tension his presence has brought so far into this season and the season as a whole is just perfect so far
It’s funny, one of them mentioned Brightburn for Homelander’s son a few episodes prior. Though, when Barbara mentions Homelander’s birth.. the reality is.. he was Brightburn
Stop saying the show needs to end because it 1000% does not! This is breaking bad/walking dead level of popularity and entertainment! This doesn’t need to go anywhere anytime soon!
Honestly I think the fact Antony doesn't have an Emmy already for his performances in previous seasons is a damn shame. This man deserves recognition. Incredible actor
The first 3 episodes were debatable or divisive for sure. But this episode was so fucked up in the boys way that it is on par with the past seasons. It was pure television. Now its upwards from here. And Anthony Starr??!!? Take a fucking bow. This guy deserves an emmy. My god.
There’s a running theory that Hughie’s mom isn’t actually there and is Hughie’s hallucination like how Becca is appearing to Butcher. If you watch, no one ever acknowledges his mother when she’s in the room. The doctors and nurses always directly talk to Hughie and never say anything to his mom. So that would mean that everything his mom’s done was actually Hughie but he’s projecting it so he doesn’t have to carry the consequences of his actions.
that doesn't make any sense, his mom has power of attorney; the conversation b/w hughie and the lawyer confirms that she's real 😭 plus she's been referenced by starlight and a bunch of other characters
I can't believe some lame ahh losers are review bombing this season lmao. Episode 4 was amazing and Homelander is one of the best written characters in the show. With this episode it finally looks like the season is getting back on track.
the part of this episode that is the most fascinating to me is that in real world situations of abuse, the realization that you don’t need the approval of your abuser/s is a liberating experience. it’s freeing you from the shackles of your past and while you will still have to deal with the effects, it allows you to move on. the problem with Homelander having this experience is that the desire for that twisted kind of love was the *only* thing reigning him in. Vought knew this, The Boys knew this, the audience knows this. He’s not a bird being let out of his cage-he’s a monster being let off the chain. He’s been empowered, and that’s the worst thing to possibly happen.
Also Rosmarie DeWitt who plays' Hughie's mom in the show is the real-life granddaughter of the late boxer James Braddock and a biopic about his life was made starring Russell Crowe where she had a supporting role.
Love you guys. Especially you Greg. Just wanted to let you know that you guys, and Greg's reaction to Inside Out where he talks about emotions and how to get through tough things, actually helped me through my own tough times. So thanks guys. You're all awesome.
I wouldn't say it's bad but the standard is lower than the first three seasons, but I am excited about butcher and what v did to him, and I actually don't sympathise with hughie's mother one bit.
@@uzuwuejoweren’t even that bad bro. If you can’t watch a tv show for more than it’s bloody, gut wrenching scenes than why don’t you just watch them on RUclips? 😂 it’s not a bad thing to have scenes that build character and story.
Yeah, Antony's performance this episode was sublime and worthy of all the awards...but so it was everyone else's. This was an acting masterclass from everybody in the cast. Erin's cry holdings in Annie's talk with Hughie. Just everyone.
I kinda love that for once they dont show the violence in that final scene. It lets the audience fill in the blanks. Those last shots are award winning. Antony starr is terrifying with microexpressions
Oh my freaking goodness this episode was unbelievable. The level of tension and just straight up distributing that they achieved was chilling. I was speechless after the episode. Antony freaking Starr… what an absolute legend. Yes! Give this man the front runner for Emmy. Also all the subtle pieces of dialogue like firecracker saying “you’re one of the good ones” or when The Deep and Firecracker were singing and then the car sound for a high pitched note was hilarious! Ahhh this show, I can’t get enough of it.
I'm convinced Butcher has a Carnage like symbiote inside of him. That's Becka when they speak to each other. His tumor is alive and that's how Ezekiel was killed. Defending Its host, Butcher, just before he lost oxygen
Butcher is basically venom now. V made his tumor sentient. It wants Butcher to live so it could live. It protects Butcher. Like venom it might actually be talking to him through his wife’s form.
I am really starting to believe that hughies mum isn't real thing and that he gave his dad the V but his mind disconnected that action and put it on his "mum"

I love how each season of The Boys has had a different theme that sticks throughout the entire Season. Some have a couple, but I feel like the main ones are:
Season One: Love (Butcher and Becca, Hughie and Starlight, MM and his wife, Frenchie and Kimiko)
Season Two: Manipulation (Stormfront’s online persona, Homelander and Ryan)
Season Three: Strength (Temp-V, Soldier Boy, Toxic Masculinity)
Season Four: The Past (Butcher and Becca, Hughie and his Mom, Homelander and the lab, Kimiko and Shining Light, Frenchie and contract killing)
Every season has all of these 😂
@@LuckyKlvrSyxthe main focus jackass. That’s why each season works. They’re not just jumping. They focus on one, then slip into the other while the others are still present.
Interesting observation!
No, i'm pretty sure Ryan saved him

It was honestly a bit nerve-wracking when watching Homelander. You know he's going to murder everyone there, you just didn't know when.
Also I'm curious to see what power Butcher now has. Think he might be a head-popper.
Doubt hes a head popper, but i think they are hiding something from us for sure, that could of not been him either we don’t know until we see his powers used again, but makes me wonder if temp gives different powers what will happen if hughie takes it
You think he’s a head popper? The head is the only thing that didn’t pop
Probably has somethin to do with that parsite worm going around. Probably goes out him and shreds anything nearby and comes back inside him when done
@@Pototofri Technically the head popping ability is just forceful blood manipulation but I doubt they would have that power on Marie/Butcher/Victoria all at once

Me: cuz nobody wants John anymore it’s homelander. He’s chopped liver.
The thing moving around inside of butcher seems to not be the thing killing him but i guess his power. Thats crazy. Stoked to see how that plays out.
Top tier points of this ep:
That Tek Knight "gaping hole" reference tho
The labcoats ONLY apologizing to Homelander when they sense it's about to be over for them....not one of them showed genuine compassion or empathy...just fear...monsters beget monsters it seems
I think Sage is taking down Vought, Homelander and The Boys. She sows dissension far too selectively....but anyone who casually self lobotomizes to relax is also far too intelligent and dangerous to try and predict sooo
Loving it.
This means he feels pain from heat. It could still be in his head like Martian Manhunter but that is a glaring weakness.
This episode was so great! Antony Starr as Homelander was so amazing in this episode! 👍
I feel like a train , frenchie , and victoria nueman are gonnna die this season 😭
Yesss
Neuman for sure I feel.
No not A train 🫤
I think Neuman for sure. Still on the fence about A-Train and Frenchie, but yeah your right If they do die...I wouldn't be surprised.
Frenchie friend gay is going to die 100%
I love sage almost as much as Greg does lol she’s such a fresh addition I can’t wait to see where they take her character. This episode left me EXHAUSTED
Antony Starr has been knocking it outta the park for 4 seasons but holy Christ was he on another level in this episode. He just completely displayed all he’s bought to Homelander so far. Chilling, terrifying, horrifying, fascinating… One of the best villain performances I’ve ever seen. If he doesn’t win an Emmy… then there is no justice in this world. Beyond deserving. 🙇♀️
Hughie changed his mind about using V on his dad when he learned Simon Peggs opinions on Godzilla movies.
😂😂😂😂😂
He's right about them too
The reason the firecracker forgiveness stuff was so great is because that literally happened in real life with a pastor who made this style of apology for the same thing and his congregation just forgave him

The stakes are so high this season - not just the superhero horror stuff, but the human stories that bind it all together so well
Homelander being born was just like the comic the way she described it
"Cherie" deserves more screen time, or her own spinoff! This talented star material is criminally underrated!

Antony Starr killed it in this episode
Absolutely one of the most traumatizing episodes of this season so far, loved seeing all of your reactions to this one!
Hughies Dad getting V is very interesting because he is on the complete good side of the spectrum and now he has powers. He is like the opposite Homelander, I wonder what they'll do with this.
And finally Simon pegg is getting something to do in this show
I really want to see what his powers are.
This did not age well
@@j0nez_ interestingly, the only way Hugh Sr could kill was by accident due to memory loss
11:15 Has anyone else noticed the consistent theme about holding grudges for past traumas throughout the show?
Yeah episode 3 was for everyone to introduce their post trauma and this episode everyone faced their post traumas.
every episode this season (and especially this episode) has made me so grateful that we have to wait 1 week between episodes. they pack so much into those 50-something minutes that I never want it to be over, but I also appreciate the week of breathing room to recover. also: the Kimiko storyline is a direct parallel to the Frenchie storyline. they both did something in their past that they regret and whether or not they were under duress when they did it, the chickens are coming home to roost.
Firecracker walked so drake could run
@ReelRejects "I was good to you, Mikey." To answer the trivia question, that was Ismael Cruz (Danny Trejo) telling that to Michael (Tyler Mane) when he was drowning him before slamming the TV down on his head in "Halloween" (2007).
So much going on this episode. Enjoyed it so much. Amazing acting by Antony as per usual. Excited to see Simon Pegg get some scenes. (At least where his character is conscious)

The series should win an Emmy and for Anthony Starr. He has proven to be a great and terrifying homlenader. Since it gives it a touch of extreme madness. And be exceptional. Without a doubt it is incredible. He was born to be Homelander!!!
Why did Kamiko give Hughie the LEASET effective weapon.. she should've used that and gave him the Paper Cutter "sword"
Very proud of Hughie in that fight though.
Its not because it’s the most effective one to kill that it’s the most simple effective one to handle
because its Hughie. hahaha the box cutter was better suited for him.
And again homelander carries like this guy is so insane Antony definitely deserves an Emmy!
This episode could really be described using lyrics from the Kendrick/Drake beef:
Firecracker: “I was really really tryna keep it PG.”
Butcher: “Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A minor.”

The first 3 episodes were debatable or divisive for sure. But this episode was so fucked up in the boys way that it is on par with the past seasons. It was pure television. Now its upwards from here. And Anthony Starr??!!? Take a fucking bow. This guy deserves an emmy. My god.

It happened so quickly you probably missed it. The pick of the Seven in the commercial included Sam and Cate.
In the trailer they show then too
@tiagoalves2056 that too, but specifically in the episode when there was a commercial for the Seven making an appearance, Sam and Cate were included.

@@abhioj4466to be fair homelander is carrying this season alone

the part of this episode that is the most fascinating to me is that in real world situations of abuse, the realization that you don’t need the approval of your abuser/s is a liberating experience. it’s freeing you from the shackles of your past and while you will still have to deal with the effects, it allows you to move on. the problem with Homelander having this experience is that the desire for that twisted kind of love was the *only* thing reigning him in.

I'm convinced Butcher has a Carnage like symbiote inside of him. That's Becka when they speak to each other. His tumor is alive and that's how Ezekiel was killed. Defending Its host, Butcher, just before he lost oxygen
