There was a time Soviet Union deployed 1.27 million troops along China's north border. And my dad told me the whole country was preparing for defence at that time. They didn't go to school anymore, and my grandparents didn't farm or go to factory. Instead, they practiced how to use common weapons like rifles, grenade, and they digged holes to hide, stocked food. Government trained people how to survive after nuclear attack. That time was horrible. Life itself was already hard, and under such tension, nobody knew what what future would be like. Still do hope no wars in this world, not only Russia and China, even though it is unavoidable for countries to complete.

Good analysis for a nonlocal. I was born in Ulan-Ude and lived there for 20 years. And we know exactly how dangerous Chinese offensive could be, but you should consider a few factors: 1. Terrain. It is litteraly hills and mountains surrounded by endless forests. We have just two main roads that connect UU with Chita and Kyahta. There are plenty of chock points where even civian trucks and buses have a hard time to cross. Besides, both roads already look like someone repeatedly bombed them. Trying to move tanks and APC through is a recipe for a hundreds of crispy metal boxes. 2. Climate. It is up 35 degrees Celsius during summer and -35 degrees during winter. And roads turn into SHIT during Spring and Fall. So, any chinese fella would need a lot stuff just to survive. Russians would need it as well, but they have home field advantage, so... yeah, WW2 experimence is fully applyable. 3. Any possible chinese offensive has just a couple of possibe routes in limited space with a little to none local collaboration (because there are no fucking locals between Chita and UU). And even Russian civilians fully aware of these routes. 4. I guess you do not fully understand how Soviet style military conservation works: there are different conservation categories from “shake some dust, get some fuel and ready to go” to “why the fuck there is a museum artifact in my storage?”. The most modern stuff requires literaly half of a day to become fully operational, others needs a new engine and a few months of repair. Ask Ukranians. After they suffered tremendous losses they got back into fight pretty fast because of decades long polished system of conservation. And Buryatia is flooded with Military stocks. Chita has even more. I’m not saying that Cinese would not take Ulan-Ude, it is entirely possible. I’m just saying it is gonna be pain in the ass and not walk in the park. But even if they get throught Ulan-Ude, there will be no way they can move further: the ONLY way from Ulan-Ude to Irkutsk is narrow and dangerous path though montains. Imagine that you move on a poorly maintained road, about twenty meters wide. On the right side there is three dosens metes fall, on the left side there is a cliff... that could fall down even without human interference. So, yeah... it is not Western Russia to say the least.

There are places in China especially in Manchuria (NE China), Inner Mongolia, Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia and Xinjiang where the terrain and climate is far more inhospitable compared to many places in European Russia. Germany and France in comparison has a relatively mild climate which was why Hitler, Napoleon and other European powers failed to endure the Russian winter and ended up perishing. In places like Harbin and the wide open arid steppes of Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang, winter temperatures of -50 degrees Celsius are not unheard of, and in fact it is the norm rather than the exception. Sandstorms are also another very frequent occurrence in Northern China during spring, so I think they'll be fine :) And as the previous comment pointed out, Chinese people have been fighting with the other nomadic peoples in the northern steppes for thousands of years under such hostile conditions; the European climate is so much milder compared to what we have here in Northeast Asia

I think chinese and russian aircrafts are grossly overestimated. I don’t think any plane in the world can rival with the F22 and F35, simply because US edge in experience and technology is huge. 1)Look at a map. There are plenty of corridors through Mongolia AND plenty of flat open terrian. Either side could gain HUGE advantage going through Mongolia if the other ignored it. At the very least Russia would to push into northern Mongolia to secure those mountains. Doing so would give them free reign to strike across the southern plains into northern China.

That time was horrible. Life itself was already hard, and under such tension, nobody knew what what future would be like.

Good analysis for a nonlocal. I was born in Ulan-Ude and lived there for 20 years. And we know exactly how dangerous Chinese offensive could be, but you should consider a few factors:
1. Terrain. It is litteraly hills and mountains surrounded by endless forests. We have just two main roads that connect UU with Chita and Kyahta. There are plenty of chock points where even civian trucks and buses have a hard time to cross. Besides, both roads already look like someone repeatedly bombed them. Trying to move tanks and APC through is a recipe for a hundreds of crispy metal boxes.
2. Climate. It is up 35 degrees Celsius during summer and -35 degrees during winter. And roads turn into SHIT during Spring and Fall. So, any chinese fella would need a lot stuff just to survive. Russians would need it as well, but they have home field advantage, so... yeah, WW2 experimence is fully applyable.
3. Any possible chinese offensive has just a couple of possibe routes in limited space with a little to none local collaboration (because there are no fucking locals between Chita and UU). And even Russian civilians fully aware of these routes.
4. I guess you do not fully understand how Soviet style military conservation works: there are different conservation categories from “shake some dust, get some fuel and ready to go” to “why the fuck there is a museum artifact in my storage?”. The most modern stuff requires literaly half of a day to become fully operational, others needs a new engine and a few months of repair. Ask Ukranians. After they suffered tremendous losses they got back into fight pretty fast because of decades long polished system of conservation. And Buryatia is flooded with Military stocks. Chita has even more.
I’m not saying that Cinese would not take Ulan-Ude, it is entirely possible. I’m just saying it is gonna be pain in the ass and not walk in the park. But even if they get throught Ulan-Ude, there will be no way they can move further: the ONLY way from Ulan-Ude to Irkutsk is narrow and dangerous path though montains. Imagine that you move on a poorly maintained road, about twenty meters wide. On the right side there is three dosens metes fall, on the left side there is a cliff... that could fall down even without human interference. So, yeah... it is not Western Russia to say the least.

I think chinese and russian aircrafts are grossly overestimated. I don’t think any plane in the world can rival with the F22 and F35, simply because US edge in experience and technology is huge. They simply have been doing this shit for much longer.
