Hello, I'm extremely interested in taking your course but had a few questions, Does aluminum tig welding techniques apply to stainless steel and carbon steel as well? Or how much difference is there in techniques from one to the other? I enjoy your teaching techniques and would love to start your classes.
You keep showing gorgeous wide stainless weld beads, without evidence of a weave, while mine are hopelessly narrow. Can you please do a video on bead width adjustment on stainless? We only have a month left in the school semester and I'd love to be able to do Dusty beads 😛
Hi Dusty. Just wanna say thanks so much. I'm a welder and I recently started welding aluminum. Ur tips are brilliant. We need more people like u in this world. So my bru
Yo, Dusty -- Great series of videos. I watch regularly. I've been struggling with basic lap and corner welds on aluminum for many months. There's no telling how much aluminum I have destroyed working at this. So today I made a major step of progress -- you might mention this sometime. I recently had cataract surgery and while my vision is much better now than it has been in decades (retired, TIG welding is a hobby for me), I still found I had to grab my cheaters to read smaller print. Then it hit me: If I need them to read, maybe I need them to weld! So I got a $10 cheater lens from Amazon to put in my welding helmet. The difference was immediate and amazing! I didn't realize I wasn't being able to focus well on the tungsten and puddle. My aluminum welds still are not good looking like yours, but I'm confident now this will improve, and they are at least plausibly sound welds where before they looked mostly like snot. I have an old AC-DC HF CIG brand TIG from the 1990's , she still works (after a few repairs)... It's always good to get lessons on these old machines...
Dusty thanks for the awesome channel I improve with each video. This one in particular answered a number of questions and solutions to try. Its like you directed this personally to me :) Definitely going to grab a flow meter as I think I am wasting a ton of gas and revisit my balance settings.
Good tips Dusty, thank you. I have and use a flow meter with all of my welders and not just TIG. I disable the wire feed on my MIG (open the tensioner) and check to make sure the flow is what it says and I want (I have a Everlast the flows less at the MIG gun then what it says). Thank you for your videos, keep them coming.
Hi Dustin, Well being an old guy that has wanted to get into TIG welding, but never took the time from my GS desk job to do more that get a good deal on what now is an antique welder. I have retired and have built a shop where I can have enough electric power available to hook up the still on the original pallet new old stock Lincoln Square Wave 255 acquired almost 30 years ago in a trade. But after watching your video for awhile, and now this, I’m thinking I may have to see if I can swap out the machine for a newer, smaller machine or just forget the fancy aluminum and stainless welding to just keep using my MIG or gas torch on my mild steel projects. So let me know if you hear of anyone wanting a new (as in never hooked up, still on its original pallet) old Square Wave 255 in the DC Capital area. Cheers, Tom
I work on aerospace, it's my first year and I've been welding for about 2 1/2 and I use this machine and let me tell you. It sucks! Compared to the new inverters this thing is a dinosaur indeed 😂
I only have a stick welder . I was under the impression I could tig weld with that, unfortunately it’s on got one setting and that to turn it up or down. .?
Try cups from Tiglab in Poland, they do special heavy-duty types for motorsport fabrication, that dont break when they are dropped. Also cost less than the very fragile ones from the well known manufacturers.
I'm no pro in tig but I'm going to guess you're moving too fast. I just started and it looks more like mig fillets. I'm going to try slowing down and let my puddle get a bit wider.

I found the same with stick welding, put my reading glasses on, got up close, and suddenly everything improved a lot.
You need AC on TIG for Al?
please do a video about machines without a foot pedal. only an on and off switch.
thanks
Second that

Have an early 2000s OTC inverter, welds lovely but certainly isn't portable..............lol
Great video Dusty.

Some fantastic tips here when it comes to Tig Welding!
Great information.
Thanks brother.
looking great Dusty, cheers from Florida, Paul
Great way to start a Friday. TGIF tiggers!
What if your machine doesn't have a balance setting

That table is sicc bro

Morning brothers and sisters in the welding world
What are the 4 main steps for tunning your gas flow ??? Thanks !!
multiply your cup size by 2 and that will get you close.
Très bon conseils.Merci
How do you know when the gas flow rate isn't right?
I only have a stick welder . I was under the impression I could tig weld with that, unfortunately it’s on got one setting and that to turn it up or down. .?
What do you think about the lincoln square wave 200 i was thinking of buying one
What do you do if your dial arc 250HF doesn't have a balance knob on it?
How do you determine gas flow? What symptoms do you look for versus adjustment/ correction?
Half way through the video he answers your questions. Watch before asking.
I tried tig welding in the drive way and I realized u can’t tig weld outside so idk how to practice tig bc I can’t do it in the garage
Why do you never sharpen your tungsten

Why did you write DC + and DC -?
What causes my SS TIG welds to look like

More welding less talk please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why did you choose the welding table you have? Are the big gaps in the top ever a problem?
Excellent video Dusty
