- The barge strike caused an oil spill, causing traffic to be shut down in both directions on the bridge and the intercostal waterway will be shut down, due to the spill spreading in that direction.
Whoever is running the universe simulation is a big fan of crashing boats into bridges right now.

I used to leave Dallas early Saturday morning, drive down to Galveston and pick up some bait at Smitty's Bait shop and then drive out to the back side of Pelican Island! I'd park my truck on the beach and hang a tarp on the side for shade and cover. Then I'd fish for whatever came along. I'd walk to the little inlets behind me and put out crab trotlines baited with fish heads. That evening I'd gather wood for a fire and boil the crabs on it, as I fried up some fish. After dark, when the tide was going out I'd take a flashlight and walk along the beach looking for Hermit Crabs crawling up onto the beach. I'd pick out some that had the best and biggest shells with no holes. I'd use a Bic lighter to heat the back of the shell, making the crab leave it and fall into a bucket of water. I'd save them for bait for the next morning! Small sharks LOVE Hermit crabs! Around noon Sunday I'd pack everything up and head back to Dallas. Sadly though they put up fences and locked gates to keep people off the island and away from the beaches! I loved camping out there!

+ Easily seen the two horizontal road beams are hanging down where they meet on top of that pushed aside column and one of them almost fallen off it , while these poor “ innocent “ dudes , to say the least , are just walking and driving on them !!

Fortunately, the rail link to the island has been abandoned for generations, and only bits and pieces of the former trackage remain. The portion over the actual channel is long gone, leaving only the bits closer to shore.
