The railroad bridge has been out of operation for decades, and in fact a portion of it near where the barge struck it was already gone. Check the views from GE. The latest picture shows at least 2 spans missing as of 2/23/2023. The highway portion was closed out of caution until inspectors can certify that its ok for use. Should be interesting to find out how the barge ended up so close to the shoreline when the lift section where it should have been headed is nearly 300 yards away.
Seawolf Park is on Pelican Island and it's a popular fishing spot. I was just there about 3 months ago. If the engineers deem the bridge as unsafe, I hope there is a ferry that anyone there can use to get their vehicles off the island.

Love it how the media is paying more attention to these incidents since the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Samething with train derailments and Boeing planes. Nothing new here. Just an everyday occurrence that's finally surfacing on the media.
People making comments on this, saying this is not an accident or this is ridiculous and the company needs to be prosecuted. You need to stop. You clearly have no idea about the marine industry and how easy it is for things to go wrong. The barge was secured by line. Lines stretch and retract. Every time another tow or ship passes by a barge that is moored it pulls the barge away from its moorings. The lines stretch and stop the barge. Well that can only happen so many time before a line breakers free. What needs to happen is boats should be required to stand by with there barges at all times. But understand this was just an accident.
I don't see how that barge could even get through the concrete pillars of the bridge. This was completely avoidable and should never have happened. Now the wildlife is in danger because of this stupidity.

Barge company gets a nice insurance claim, state gets a new bridge all paid for by tax payers
Biden had a nephew that almost died on a collapsing bridge back in Nam and can relate to our feelings.
Oh yeah, and when he fell off the bridge and was eaten by cannibals.
@user-kq4hf8se5b And then an 18 wheeler showed up with Corn Pop at the wheel. He was a baaad dude, with cockroaches for hairs on his legs. Sniff, I remember it so well.
Norwalk CT,now this let’s make the Francis Scott Key bridge look normal
What a coincidence?? Don’t deny it. Hmmm.
People do live on the island in an apt building. Some are crossing the bridge one by one right now.
Smell like a distraction
This happened in Baltimore
Texas fires floods tornadoes bridges falling down someone's pissed at you
“You can’t just barge into the side of a bridge now a days”
Barge: “Hold my beer”.
How do you not see a bridge🤔
Why isnt there any mention of the oil slick?
This new Tik Tok trend is getting out of hand
They ran out of trains to de-rail!!
This is going to keep happening vessels get bigger but infrastructure stays the same.
It's too weird this keeps happening.
That part is so large and probably should not be allowed there and it should have several tugboats helping it through
Капитан видимо не учёл направление и скорость ветра, воздействия волн на корпус судна. Да и вообще как такое может быть, если только судно просто поломалось, от слова совсем стало, неуправляемое.
This is Sabbatage! U.S. Fed. Govt. Needs to find out who's responsible!
Corporate America is, duh! Why do you think we have a 'trucker shortage' and a 'mechanic shortage'. They didn't all get abducted by aliens. We've collectively decided it's more important to guarantee profits for shareholders than to have a functioning country.
Какое же это вредительство? Это экологическая катастрофа.
They oughta know, they paid for it to be done
What did the saboteurs gain?
Coincidence…….I think not
The railroad bridge has been out of operation for decades, and in fact a portion of it near where the barge struck it was already gone.
Whaaaat is going on? Geez
Why no containment bouys
Seawolf Park is on Pelican Island and it's a popular fishing spot. I was just there about 3 months ago. If the engineers deem the bridge as unsafe, I hope there is a ferry that anyone there can use to get their vehicles off the island.
same thing happened to the Bridge to South Padre Island back in 2001 and everyone with a boat made good money carrying water and goods and people back and forth until the bridge was repaired.
They opened the bridge temporarily to allow vehicles out
Hmmmm…..imagine that!
This is the bridge Biden said he rode a train across. Uh huh.
Oh another accidental barge crash...Nothing to see here folks...Move Along!
I wouldn't say there's any acquaintance.Just me saying
They were supposed to hit it from the other direction is what you are saying.
😂😂😂😂
Trying to disrupt supply lines
Not really. You will have to go arounf but that bridge isnt really important and doesnt effect the main channel
seems like not a coincidence
Watch this.... Hold my beer!
How Sway …how? All of that room to maneuver. How?
That's some nasty looking water without the oil.
Except construction to last 50 years. 👍🏾
Infastructure bill includes deconstruction of bridges and train derailments.
Whose hiring all the Joe Biden voters?
Don't fear, Governor Abbott will blame windmills.
The barge did not hit the Pelican Island Causeway
A judge ? And he knows not jack shit what he’s talking about. Lol
Love it how the media is paying more attention to these incidents since the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Samething with train derailments and Boeing planes. Nothing new here. Just an everyday occurrence that's finally surfacing on the media.
Now I’m scared to drive my yacht, maybe I’ll just stick to my Cybertruck
Again?
Are bridges being targeted now?
That's a full barge 🤷♂️
Lets all enjoy the huge oil slick
You’d think after Baltimore, captains and engineers would be SUPER observant and make sure all the maintenance was up to date.
Wow!!
Was it another newly placed Ukraine Captain?
😂😂😂
You misspelled Russian
I would recall any representatives that refuse to investigate this trend!
Another taxpayer funded bridge
How should bridges be funded?
@@AlbertHess-xy7ky not by casually running barges or cargo ships into them. Funny how every “necessity” in America needs to be funded by tax dollars except helping the actual people who pay those taxes.
@@matthewcarder9482 Barges and ships are not casually run. Have you every been on a tug?
Bridges are necessary. How should they be funded? We the people?
@@AlbertHess-xy7ky that barge wasn’t tugged like it should’ve been. Insurance fraud. They destroy the bridge get paid to fix the boat then use emergency funding to fix the bridge or build a new one. Crazy how your on every post almost like you work for the coverup crew on RUclips.
@@AlbertHess-xy7ky America is the most fraudulent ran place on this earth. Thieves in suits destroying everything
This whole story has been overblow and misrepresented. The coast guard and the oil company and local officials held a press conference this morning. The railroad part of the bridge has been out of operation for (possibly) decades...it sustained no new damage. "VOG" is "vacuum-oil-gas" which is wasted and or spilled oil and gasoline that has been vacuumed up for various sources and is waste. It was on its' way to be treated and-or disposed. The actual spill was minor and has (mostly) been vacuumed up. There is NO BARGE TRAFFIC under this portion of the bridge.
It's not really a huge deal for road traffic, the road deck seems perfectly fine.
Something doesn't add up, were these crashes common in the past, or is it just happening recently ??
ANOTHER BRIDGE??!! Does Anyone Else catch a “Trend” here???
Charles Barkley was right...that water looks all kinds of dirty
They'll start cleaning up, before they investigate, and clear up all these silly conspiracy theories right away.
