Quebec beach remains open after mysterious underwater attack on child

- Two weeks after a terrifying incident comparable to a scene from the movie "Jaws" at Jean-Doré Beach in Montreal's Jean-Drapeau Park, the beach has reopened for business as usual.
Despite the disturbing incident involving an underwater attack on an eight-year-old child, Jean-Doré Beach has resumed its operations, catching many beachgoers off guard.
But as Global's Gloria Henriques reports, calls for improved safety measures and better communication about potential dangers are growing as concern mounts among visitors.

Warning!!!! Living things in water!!!!!
It’s unusual considering they didn’t put the fish there when they put in the lake.
Never had a fish get in our campgrounds man made beach so..
It’s a man made lake . Maybe open your ears !!
Woke babies
@@Joemamarickroll that's pumping water straight from the non man made saint Lawrence river.
Glad the little guy is ok but is the dad serious? We need signs to tell us things live in the water?
😂 r real
My thoughts exactly
It's a man made "lake". More like a pond. As a fisherman and swimmer I can tell you it's the last place in the world I would fish for Muskie or Pike or expect to have a problem swimming.
@@bobwoods1302 It must be connected to other water sources. So it’s not surprising it contains fish. If it isn’t connected someone dropped Muskies in there on purpose. - Also from a fisherman & swimmer.
@@chrisministerofsmartarsery3322 it isn't according to Google Earth. Someone probably caught it on the river and dropped it in
Years ago in Ontario somehow piranha ended up in Professor's Lake NW of Toronto...there have been other piranha caught in Lake Erie, Ontario, and Huron...police figure in just about all the cases that someone dumped an aquarium in a pond...luckily those things die when the water gets below 15 Celsius...not sure if related to the situation here...
I used to live in Brampton and remember that incident. Last week, an alligator was spotted in Lake Erie, U.S. side (Pennsylvania or Ohio?)
And that's why we steer clear of weed beds when swimming in fresh water, because muskie and pike can do real damage if they bite.
Well stay in the swimming pool then because this "lake" is very small and man made and there is not supposed to be any muskie or pike in it to begin with. Also go ahead and swim in weed beds in muskie and pike water if you want you will be just fine.
In a man made beach? Someone put that there
and that why no swim in big weed
It should NOT be in there as it's a man made body of water, nothing should be in there, so someone put it in there and there is no food in there other than a human swimming @@SputDobt
Weeds freak me out more then fish.
Fish in the water? Who knew.
It’s an artificial lake or a pool that looks lake a lake if you like.
Fish aren't in man made swimming ponds
Well man made or not life will grow
GET THE FISHERMAN OUT THERE BEFORE THEY OPEN AND AFTER THEY CLOSE
After my friend Graham told me about the Musky and Pike in the water it basically ruined the waterskiing experience for me. Every time I would fall waiting for the boat was like a living scene of Jaws in my mind.
My family got a house by the Lac-Saint-Jean in Québec. At the start of the 2000' a kid who was dipping his feet at the edge of a dock in Peribonka, not far from us, got two toes bitten-off by a big pike, scary stuff... 😅
What's crazy about this is that this is small man made lake and is not supposed to have Muskie or Pike as far as I know. Even in Muskie and Pike infested waters attacks on humans (and pets for that matter) are very very rare. It seems we hear about one of these incidents every ten years or so. Last one I heard of was a young girl who was playing near a Muksie's nest. Injuries were similar to this boys.
If you would have made a 5 second research on the internet you would have understood that yes, fish can indeed end up in the lake after you know that the water is pumped directly from the Saint-Lawrence river and filtered by nothing but algae
More likely a snapping turtle
Musky and pike will not kill you there are pike in every lake in Canada and musky in most lakes in Ontario
Except the man-made lakes they were never introduced to, like this one was.
@@B.D.F.and? It’s there now just like most lakes in Canada.
Not all Canada, we don't have them on the Est coast. 😂
Looked like a barracuda
Good thing it wasn't a larger fish. They can hit over 50 pounds. Those are slashes from being hit two or three times. A friend of mine got 17 stitches on his hand from a muskellunge bite while swimming in a spot on the Saint John River a couple decades ago.
There are no barracuda in that fresh water man-made lake.
@@PatG-xd8qn😂😂 that would not be good
They need to find out if the fish that bit the boy is a Muskie. And then they need to figure out how to remove it from the pond.
It's not a pond....it's a lake. Do they remove the sharks from the ocean ? Stop being weak
@@Matt133 R E L A X
@@ReneeKnightYogaRani that wasn't very zen of you
Its a manmade landlocked beach not supposed to b connected to the lake @@Matt133
Could be a piranha, theyve been found in several lakes in the area in the summer
A bird of pry probably dropped it's supper in the drink and the fish thrived in it's new home. You get into any outdoor swim area something could happen it's a chance you take... or not !
Oh huh, hadn't thought of that could be yeah. I can't imagine something that size thriving in there though lotta weight to sustain what's he eating? From the look of those teeth a healthy diet of insects is unlikely.
@@larrymunn5279 i work in gravel pits in southern Ontario... 2-3 feet long bass aren't unheard of in the ponds around these gravel pits
Where there's water, there's life, and where there's life.. there's predators and prey (think frogs, small birds, etc)
Omg what a shock!! The waters are dangerous.
And there shouldn't be ANY toothy biting fish in the man made water hole eh!!
Guess they didn’t know that fish was there, in fact there was a no swimming sign..seriously that dad is a bit much..
Absolutely.
I bet he's one of two dads
@@mrpotatoheadandhisfantasti That’s ridiculous, homophobia much??
@@Xylophone8 go cry about it lol... You must be the other dad
Call in Captain Quint and Roy Scheider.
Time to go fishing°
Any new details yall?
Wait living things can be in the water?! I thought only land creatures existed 🤯
This is a man-made lake that wasn’t filled with any living things.
@B.D.F. it's like next to 2 bodies of water. Wonder where they got the water. Also I'm sure sometimes it's rained or gotten flooded near the narrow bits. Just because u dig a hole in the ground and fill it with water ain't mean the fish aren't gunna use it too.
@@B.D.F.lol they literally get the water from the saint Lawrence river. (Feel free to check if u dont believe me). And guess what they ain't filtering out the organisms just straight pumping it. They're literally sucking fish up with the water
Edit: so yes it was filled with living things.
@@Oracle2448 Weird, I’ve seen plenty of backyard pools and never seen a fish in any of them. 🤷♂️
First of all that's not a beach and secondly glad to know the kid is ok
A cold front sets across the north today, as a family on vacation from the states comes to realize that Canada has more than they ever expected lurking in it's icy cold waters. They decided on vacationing out of country due to the political climate, and decided on venturing into friendly Canada, but in the end more was was bitten off than they could digest.
It gets extremely hot in summer in Québec. Our lakes aren't icy cold in the middle of July 🤦
Im not Quebecois, but I am as well a Canadian. I know
O yes those muskies we used to swim in waters with 10' long ones called them toe bitters. Sometimes they would bite a toe right off lol. I miss the 80s/90s haha, it was apart of the thrill!
I always think twice skinny dipping.
Might not be a toe😮
Im glad the kid is ok... I can't speak to the dads pov on this. Im sure he's just being a dad here.
Warning man eating fish in lake..🤷♂️😲
Get fishing 🎣
Now imagine the scene from JAWS unfolding here. 30 small boats chumming, shooting, fighting, and throwing dynamite into the water. At the end of the day, there's a couple jack fish and a stringer of perch hanging at the dock.
0:08 That was extremely important for the story!! Global News is definitely not an example of tabloid journalism 😂😂😂
Hahahaha... yeah, to add emotions...lol
In Canada....assume there are fish in every body of water. I mean, I can't seem to HAVE ANY LUCK, but the fish are there.
Sheesh. We might need a bigger boat.
Surprised that fish live in water is crazy
If we put signs up to warn you about the dangers of this country, you probably wouldn't come here for a vacation ever again.
Largest Musky I've ever caught was 48 inches long and weighed about 100lbs, took me almost 4 hours to get it into the boat...enjoy your day at the beach! lol
Sounds a little fishy to me😅
@@redneckguy2169 It smelt a bit fishy too, but the biggest I've seen is even more of a tall tale, big fish story at 73 inch and about 150lbs...lol
It’s weird to require a sign about living things in a place where there’s supposed to be no living things.
@@B.D.F. Does the government tell you there's living things in your drinking water? If it's an open body of water, man-made or not, life will find a way and should be expected, all it takes is for one or two eggs to be stuck to a duck, and presto, you have life.
Seen my dad get bit by a pike while fishing it looked painful multiple punctures
It looks like a pike, they are nicknamed freshwater sharks.
Serious? just get fishing boats out and fish finders and catch them. No new details about what?
An experienced swimmer was swimming in Lake St Clair last year and either a muskie or pike bit his fingers.
That kid will never swim I. A lake again
maybe some sort of freshwater shark? very odd.
Holy frick those people speaking English in Quebec did not see that coming.
What! Living creatures in water? How is that possible?
It's a muskie not a shark LOL go get a fish finder and a fishing rod and take care of that toothy critter
"Glad the little guy is ok but is the dad serious? We need signs to tell us things live in the water?"
Have a Musky derby to catch and relocate the beautiful fish.
INCOMPÉTENTE is the best word to describe how she handle the city!!!!!
Here be dragons
Lakes have fish and some have teeth. Canada.
Investigation. 🤣 3 years later = 3 millions 🤮🤮🤮
Definetely the muskellenge, if they grow over 50" they are very powerful
I thought it was going to be about “the itch” since everyone freaks out about it. Where I come from, we don’t get angry if the fish are biting. 😂
Ahahahahh! You realy had to follow up on this story. Come on!
Love fishing 🎣.
Two piranhas were found on Nanaimo’s most popular swimming lake a couple years ago - might be a released pet?
Uhhh this is north America and we have fish in everything deeper than a few feet of water
what happened to bilingual signs, that one means nothing 0:49
Québec doesn't have to have English signage. The 🚫 is pretty clear to those who can't read french.
QC is not bilingual. If you are interested in knowing which province in Canada is bilingual, refer to a Canadian Constitution.
Idk, the real question is , what happend to Quebec? Looks very ☪️
@@icouldjustscream it's not, the line does not run through the swimmer, it a circle with two nubs.
It's not a shark lol
Been swimming with the fishes for all my life. Ive never had an issue. If there is a musky in there, its possibly starving, i dont know anything about this man made lake . Doesnt make sense for it to attack to him. Mistaken identity maybe?
Fyi birds can transport fish and fish eggs from one body of water to another. That alleged musky may have grown up in there and is only now showing its face. Curious how this pans out. Speedy recovery young man.
We used to skip school in the 70s and swim in the Trent canal. Half the high school would be there on a hot day, sometimes bringing down the truant officer to try to talk us into going back to class and stop drinking beer. Muskies used to routinely nip at your toes, ensuring no skinny dipping for guys. What scared me worse in the Muskokas and North of the 401 was those darned water moccasins. Not posionous like the Mississauga rattlers, but a real nasty bite.
Ya takes yer chances cooling off in our 100s of thousand of lakes in Canada. I've swam in the Atlantic and the Pacific, never been biten. I stick to pools nowadays. Ottawa's got some beautiful outdoor and indoor pools all for a reasonable yearly membership....nothing to bite you, plenty clean and you can shower before and after. Go try that new 2 acre outdoor pool past Hogtown.

Did this dad actually say he needs to be warned that there are living things in the lake before he makes a decision to go in? Its lake dude, what did you think there were just minnows swimming around? He looks like someone in the IT busienss so it doesnt surprise me
Calling Jeremy Wade to fish it out. Also why didn't they swap DNA on the wound to see?
You need to get bigger fish in there. It didn't even eat the kid. Hardly a story. Leave the kid and the small fish alone. They both belong in the lake. You don't belong near any lake if you're scared of kids and fish who eat people.
I’ve swam in almost every lake in Ontario never have been bitten once pay attention to what’s going on around you
WOWZERS!! That's alot considering there are 250K in Ontario and only 365 days in a year..lol
I agree the Muskie was put in there by some bonehead
I blame Harper for this racism.

😂 worried about fish are in water, headline news. If you're scared go to church 😂
So they told people to stop swimming in the lake, what else should they do? Perhaps your reporter doesn't know that Muskie can't come up on the beech, so there is no danger?
1:29 mother of the year.... yeah maybe if there is something biting kids in the water you should probably not put yours in there for a little while 🤣
Plage Jean Doré, le Doré est agressif en période de rut. 😂
If you don't swim with the fishes. Get a pool
That's the muskie jaws of the lake bite Mark's I can tell just by the size of the puncture wounds and how big it's mouth is, better get some people out there with foot long plugs to catch it, it could be a new record or it could actually kill someone, stupid people letting them continue to swim.
Your going to need a bigger boat.
How many more people have to get hurt before they believe me that chupacabre has made its way north and has evolved aquatic / psychic abilities? I have data to prove it. This boy is lucky the creature decided to only use its physical attacks, the leg will heal but many face years of mental turmoil after their encounter with the chupacabre

A more informed decision.
Dood it’s a wild, open waterway.
It’s a beech. LOL wow. Zero common sense.
Bull shark?
Injuries would have been a bit more dire than those scratches…
Time to be scared of something new. Keep us in fear!
Pike and Muskies are the alligators of Northern lakes. Aggressive and can be 5 or 6 feet long weighing up to fifty pounds. They'll strike at almost anything.
Its Not a Mystery
nature fighting back yeahh!
I swam in waters with northern pike or muskees and was never bit….maybe the muskee was just saying hey you need more smaller fish I am hungry…..
Meby a big jack fish thought the kid was sausge.
Looks like a job for River Monsters host Jeremy Wade
Doesn’t matter if it’s made made- flooding happens and fish make there way through waterways and drainage.
But by the looks of the bite marks definitely Nessy.
Warning!!: Fish in Water!!
Warning: Fish in water not meant for fish.
@@B.D.F. Too many characters. Maybe just the swimmer with a shark sign. It makes you wonder how many man made lakes have life lurking below the surface.
Running short on fear news again I guess.
Huge musky is my guess
odd coincidence that dad has a leg scratching fetish
how is this even on the news anymore. What a joke so in Florida you can swim with gators and sharks around. In Canada close the beach because there is an angry fish?

Wait what fish in man made lakes now I've heard it all. People just stay in side with your masks it's way safer.
At least signs that tell you there is something in the man made lake
Feel bad for the kid but if you go into water any animals can get ya. Land or water we share the earth
We're going to need a bigger boat! 😂😂
Good to know the child is well, on the other hand: their are THINGS living in everything we touch, eat, drink, and in our bath water as well. Does not mean because you clean it: it is clean. To say someone should have told you something might be in the water is nieve or just plain ludicrous is the best response to this ignorance.
This is a man-made lake that’s not supposed to have anything in it, so having something in it is a surprise.
