The Disco era shuttles made sense to me as taxis. They showed hundred year old tech still functioning in TNG. No reason to completely rebuild a shuttlecraft if there's nothing wrong with it. I'm sure it's got some updates on the inside!
3:22: I remember thinking when i first saw this episode what the hell is a D7/Ka'Tinga battle cruiser doing in 2151. The Klingons would have blown them to bits. I do like the D4 design, fits in more with the period.
11:04: When I saw the Discovery shuttle in Picard. I felt that there had been some cost-cutting in designing new ships. Even in the shipyard they were using the same design ships.
Yes, Sean, the Eaglemoss model is really nice :) Funny story, I ordered it and they accidentally sent me a k't'inga-class ship. They made good and sent me the right ship.
The Starfleet delta was originally only meant to be worn by the Enterprise crew, as a ship sigil. See TOS. It’s something that every other prequel series has ignored. Starfleet adopted the delta later on to honour the flagship.
The eventual Saru makeup had some strong similarity to The First Born, a.k.a. Speakers, in Babylon 5. I suspect this was not one influencing the other but a need in both cases to let the actor work through the makeup.
i wouldn't doubt it in the least because kurtsman and co. have NEVER had an original idea they are the ultimate repurposers, they take as much from both other better franchises as well as their own.
In all design and in use the philosophy is probably 'If it works use it', so designs remain unchanged until someone shows their way works better, then /that/ becomes the standard. Ergo the basic ship components don't change just occasionally their arrangement.
See, the secret for the Iowa- the SHUTTLECRAFT Winona Kirk left on was the Iowa, (the Kelvin shuttlecraft were named for American States). Yes, this is pure conjecture, but why the heck not?
I have no problem with older ships showing up. I would hope by that time we'll have grown past the disposable society we have now. Maybe some taxi service uses old shuttles. Obviously ships from the future require explanations.
I like the Saru makeup. Problem with sci prosthetics is just that sometimes. If it is too extreme it goes from being an Actor in makeup to a Puppet, (feel free to use that comment).
13:25: Seeing Saru character develop through the season has been interesting and it was interesting having him as captain, even though goody too shoes Burham kept cropping up
The concept art for the synth factory makes me wonder if the concept artist wasn't originally drawing it for ST: DISCOVERY overall, given the main doctor designing the synth is clearly Dr. Culber, and it looks like Stamets is standing further down the line.
I wonder is Culber's eye makeup is a reference to Cruz's character in "My So-Called Life." I don't think any other male-identifying character in DISCO's mirror universe had worn makeup as far as I remember.
4:42: I think the design for engineering was really badly done. The same could be said for the USS Kelvin engineering section, it look like it was film in chemical works
I always thought it was a shame the uniforms from all good things only got used in that episode. The admiral uniform was very uninspired though didn't fit with the ordinary uniforms at all but the design would be perfect for the picard era
theres nothing interesting about behind the scenes about ships nor who created them. if they look good on screen or film and are effective. it doesnt matter who designed them in the real world. nobody designing fictional shit is important at all
JJ-trek is NOT Star Trek! I do not understand why you cover that shit in your otherwise awesome videos. It clearly contradicts almost everything we know from previous, real Star Trek. If I was you, I'd leave that crap out entirely. And Enterprise is also no Star Trek for me for the reasons you brought forth with the D4, for Klingons appearing in the series, when the Fact Files clearly say the first contact with Klingons was in 2218, for Ferengi appearing in the series, when it is clearly stated that Captain Picard and his crew are the first Federation people to ever see Ferengi vis-à-vis, for the "Akiraprise" being more futuristic then the NCC-1701. This all makes this whole series non-Star Trek to me.

6:28 - To think, the Kelvin Timeline almost became the Iowa Timeline.
omigosh! lol
Need to call it the abrams garbage line...!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see the Tahoe class was included. When I saw that concept art in 2008-2009 I NEEDED that ship in STO. 14 years later I finally have it.
The Avenger was based on it.
That TOS-themed Kelvin actually looks really cool!
Looks like the Saladin class.
3:22: I remember thinking when i first saw this episode what the hell is a D7/Ka'Tinga battle cruiser doing in 2151. The Klingons would have blown them to bits. I do like the D4 design, fits in more with the period.
Sean, we ALL want Wilson Cruz to come to our birthday parties.
I want Tig Notaro....
This, so much!
@@artemisiatheta7549 Oh definitely, Tig is invited, too
We'll just have to invite the entire Rainbow Squad :) (And Mary Wiseman)
Missing "Ups and Downs" for the latest Prodigy episodes - I hope you'll get to them soon!
Me too I was disappointed not to see one last week. Maybe they will double it up this week. Both episodes were pretty good.
11:04: When I saw the Discovery shuttle in Picard. I felt that there had been some cost-cutting in designing new ships. Even in the shipyard they were using the same design ships.

A meta win.
I thought they did use this in the Enterprise two parter with the Soong children.
Unfortunately they didn't
I've always maintained that the Kelvin-verse game was actually fantastic. I loved playing it so much I've played it twice.
Sean is looking sharp!! New barber?
The Starfleet delta was originally only meant to be worn by the Enterprise crew, as a ship sigil. See TOS. It’s something that every other prequel series has ignored. Starfleet adopted the delta later on to honour the flagship.
That's not true, the Delta is for Starship Duty, not the Enterprise
Not right
In TOS, every starship had its own symbol. Look it up.
In TOS, every starship has its own symbol. The delta was for Enterprise.
@@robspadre5519 You are right Rob!
7:59: The Kelvin is along the similar design to the Saladin class starship

I'm glad Sean isn't the only one who's on the Culber band wagon. Honestly I think Wilson Cruz wins "most handsome Doctor" in the Franchise.
I have been saying for years tjat the disco u iforms are a spiritual bridge between the enterprise era jump suits and the original series uniforms!
Try finding any of the concept designs for the Congo class variant to the Enterprise J. I think this looks better than what we ended up with saddly
The t-shirt is great. CTRL Z is a very powerful command.
Tahoe class looks like it has a Peregrine fighter-ish winged craft docked on the saucer.
You can’t blame a video game for the franchise that shat on exciting cannon.
When i saw the Tahoe, i saw Voyager. Not the Enterprise E...
Damit! Now I want an Archer class skin for my Inquiry. That saucer looks so much better.
I could imagine Picard having an antique car/shuttle. Still newer than the vineyard.

ST is a franchise that constantly shoots itself in the foot
Sean- Enjoyed this, but different topic question. Have the Up/Downs on Prodigy been put
on hold?
The new Prodigy episodes might not be available overseas yet, for them to review, after Netflix dropped the new Treks this autumn.
Yeah I wanna know too. And they have an American as part as their team now
@@arbjbornk Use a VPN. That's what almost ever RUclipsr is shilling nowadays.
Hey Sean, I notice you guys haven't done Ups and Downs for the last 2 Prodigy episodes. Everything okay?
The algorithm didn't like them.
See, the secret for the Iowa- the SHUTTLECRAFT Winona Kirk left on was the Iowa, (the Kelvin shuttlecraft were named for American States).
Yes, this is pure conjecture, but why the heck not?
I'd love to see a top 10 concept design video for Star Trek's big bads.
I'd like to put up DS9 Gorn Light Cruiser.
excellent list! Love the USS Archer too! Keep up the amazing content. LLAP!
Hey Sean! When are you going back to Ups and Downs for Prodigy?
There's a scary thought mirror universe Sean 🖖
I "Need to see" the Ups and Downs for _Prodigy_
12:20: Yep that archer class design does look good
I have no problem with older ships showing up. I would hope by that time we'll have grown past the disposable society we have now. Maybe some taxi service uses old shuttles. Obviously ships from the future require explanations.
Really cool stuff.
Sean's shirt is absolute 🔥

I'm a bit ashamed to admit when Sean mentioned Star Trek 09, I thought I had forgotten a Star Trek TV series or just plain missed one. Doh!
So I guess we all are just going to ignore the fact that you guys owe us 2 ups and downs
Another great video Seán! 🖖🏻👨🏻🦲👍🏻
they worry about starship design but they are going of the real mission of star fleet
Your hair grows fast 😧
13:25: Seeing Saru character develop through the season has been interesting and it was interesting having him as captain, even though goody too shoes Burham kept cropping up
She's the bestest ever
Great show.
A note on fashion: fashions come and go, but some stick around. For example: blue jeans were invented in 1871. Still around.

The word incredible got so devalued over time.............
the USS Archer looks like a kabuto beetle head in reverse
They played the born on the USS Iowa gag in Strange New Worlds and you gave it a down 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣
Where are the videos on Prodigy?
Check out Lorien from Babylon 5 and you'd see where the current Saru's design derives from.
STILL, IN 2022: There is no ship in canon named after James Tiberius Kirk. That's criminal.
I wonder is Culber's eye makeup is a reference to Cruz's character in "My So-Called Life."
I don't think any other male-identifying character in DISCO's mirror universe had worn makeup as far as I remember.
Are we not getting ups and downs on Prodigy anymore?
The fact the Archer class isn't on the legendary Avenger in STO is a travesty.
Can't help think that when it came to the Copy/Paste fleet that the presenter and writer were pulling their punches when it came to critiquing it.
So happy Doug Jones does not have ten eyes!
Cool.
12:57
Ah, yes. The Cut-n-Paste Fleet.
I don't like Discovery, but I THAT had been Saru, I'd had kept watching after season 1.
I despise single nacelle starships.
Kirk never said he was born in Iowa, just from there
Did you all forget that Ups & Downs exists as something you guys can do?
12:03 This is what you're here to see
Forward to the future I suppose
They'll probably use it for the anomaly aliens
I feel like that Qwertee you're wearing has much more meaning....
Why no Ups & Downs for Prodigy episodes S01E06 Kobayashi and S01E07 First Con-tact?
Beer? O_o
natürlich
Saru concept would have triggered trypophobia too.
I think the Suliban from Star Trek Enterprise filled out that role...
5:09 really long Iphone on the wall.
4:42: I think the design for engineering was really badly done. The same could be said for the USS Kelvin engineering section, it look like it was film in chemical works
Looked more like a brewery to me!
@@sarahscott5305 I work in(hic) engineer(hic)ing
Close. It was a brewery, the Budweiser Brewery in Los Angeles.
Who puts windows on a Klingon ship?
Did DS9 get a refit ???
#9 That design looks just fragile to me. Nothing a Klingon would fly in.
Forward to the past ?🤔
JarJar Abrams determined to ruin EVERYTHING
this was a pretty underwhelming list id have to say the archer was about the only thing that looked cool or show worthy
11:19: The uniforms in Picard, didn't look right and as for the admiral uniforms. they really should have put some thought into it

To my eye, those Discovery uniforms are a blatant ripoff of Fallout Vault Suits.
Anything that JJ touched didn’t do well because it sucked and he relied too much on the cop/paste feature in his script app
No USS Copy/Paste… please.
WHY IS STAR TREK DISCOVERY EVEN MENTIONED. STOP TALKING ABOUT STAR TREK DISCOVERY IT IS A ADMOMINSTION.
Thank fuck there is a speed up option on RUclips videos. dude, you talk way way way too slow
