Not for fainthearted; that's for sure. IMHO Ivo is closer to true playing than anyone else. Live his world if you feel you could or - let him be. Spare him your judgment if he does not meet your criteria for an entertainer; for he is not one.
Everytime I hear him, makes me feel that there is no better way to express what he plays... He is the best researcher in pianism that could be... Bravo once again!
I don't know why people don't like this he is obeying the sheet music because the first section is all Staccato. Edit. And I don't know why people complain that Pogorelich play too fast when this is slower that a lot of other interpretations. Another edit. Listened to the coda again and yes it's maybe the fastest piano playing in history 🤣 but still musical and is really a Wild jagd
do not be disappointed. he kills some parts in order to resurrect others. he plays everything with aesthetics of 21st century. I cannot say if he is genius. he surely is the best piano player if we wants to.
Again, only Pogorelich is able to make us see anew through music. This is HISTORIC. He should definitely record again for DG and leave this master interpretation for Humanity. Thank you.
I've found videos in which they upload some masterpiece allegedly performance by one of the great masters and it turns out to be a fake. Here I can absolutely tell you there's no fake at all. It's Pogo
catharsis, war, love...to share in divine life we must be totally purified...every trace of sin within us is eliminated and every imperfection in our soul is corrected by this liszt pogorelich´s purgatory purification in order to live with the Lord in eternal beatitude.
Are we sure this is Pogorelich? And in 1990? It seems impossibile to me that a pianist like him decided to completely ruin the capriccio part which is in piano, without aknowledging the big crescendo heading to the fortissimo in the middle section. This can't be Pogorelich...I refuse to accept that
He often changes dynamics from the performances I’ve heard of his, for example right at the start of his recording of scriabin’s 4th sonata he essentially plays a forte instead of mezzo piano. I don’t think it’s unusual for him, he liked to accentuate changes in dynamics.
No an amazing recording by todays standards, but I can imagine this is how they used to play back in the 19th century before recordings. They were probably a lot loss worried about mistakes, and more willing to bring out the musicality at all costs.
Andrei Anghel below, and people reading this: go to Andrei’s RUclips channel, where you can in 5 seconds see his low pianistic and musical quality. No wonder Andrei cannot understand this. Andrei, do us a favor and learn to listen before you talk and try to play anything, please.
Andrei's channel is very high quality. He is a defender of the faith of Liszt, a composer who has needed defence by those unable to play his phenomenal works themselves. Andrei concerned about 'empty virtuosity'. In this case, believe he is mistaken. Wilde Jagd is a showpiece, and per the name is wild, a hunt, exciting, dangerous, thrilling, etc. Pogorelich's virtuosity here is quite some way beyond any other pianist I can think of. He simply lets it rip, just lets his fingers and mind go, to the finish. And in this piece, Andrei is mistaken... Total abandon produces better results than restraint. I have discovered many wonderful performances via Andrei's channel - particularly of Liszt - and commend it highly.
@@rachman1noff why do you think its awful, upon first listen for me i was convinced this was one of the best performances in music, i did not listen to wilde jagd before this so this was completely new to me
If you knew the origins, history behind this piece, you would know it is supposed to be somewhat of a disaster and contrary to way 90% of musicians play it. In the middle portion we can hear the true wild hunt played presto... when played at this speed it’s becomes extremely difficult and he executes almost seamlessly.
This I call “Wilde Jagd”!!!
No words, speachless as always. Bravissimo maestro

Prime Ivo was an historically great pianist.
Pogorelić è un interprete geniale. La sua tecnica è sicura. Sicuramente un grande artista!

his fortes sound so rich. love it! again thanks for the upload!!!

He has lost most of his skills by now, unfortunately...
With few pedal and such an unbelievable variety of colours. The genius version of the etude
Assolutamente straordinario 😯
Terrific!!

The reckless speed in the middle section reminds me of Richter’s 1956 performance.
Richter never was that great. Ever.

It's Pogorelich for sure! Not sure about 1990: I heard him play this in the early '90s and it was faster, more flowing and with more pedal.

PieInTheSky knows plenty of better recordings.

Thats not the only thing. It is more about the touche, the tonequality or rather the lack of tonequality

I agree. Most of it is awful. Only interesting part is a detached treatment of the LH in middle section. (2:14 to the ugly parts)
