This is all fine and dandy but the structural integrity is compromised a lot and with a slightest crash this thing will go to pieces. All this cutting and welding creates metal fatigue but I give it to them for their skills using basic tools.

This is called Privileged perspective.
Structural integrity, driver safety, passenger ease of access, nice tools, safety gear and all other similar stuff comes under privileged perspective.
I've seen a lot of similar comments from people who mean well but are not seeing from their perspective. They are comparing it to their own standards.

Here in the USA all these vans would of been scrapped. The cost of labor to rebuild these would be enough to buy a new van. We rebuild very little here anymore. Not that we cant, just not worth the cost. Thats why insurance companies total everything. Sad. So sad.

Not exactly. In Pakistan, such vehicles are restored with cost effectively. Forexample, such restoration will cost less than $1,000 on average, and not more than $2,000, depending on restoration, I am estimating as I have not been back to Pakistan for few years. The new Van costs a lot more, since this is 1980s model. The new one 2024, will be close to $50,000, if imported from Japan.
