This is DISGUSTING. I’m an actress and I would never WRITE or ACT in a play that would make fun of our sad, gruesome history.

i'm an actress too and was offered to audition for something similar. lots of negative stereotypes, and come to find out it was a token gay black dude that wrote it.

Have you seen the most recent incident with this play? When a white woman couldn't handle the emotions of the play, and started yelling at the writer? It was insane. And you know what it did? Just what it was supposed to do: Started a dialogue. So this man used his talent to its furthest extent, and is using it to battle racism in America. You may not agree with the message or way it's done, but damnit...he is fighting AGAINST America's racist ways. Do me a favor and explain why THAT is so bad. Not the method. But the purpose.
    You can't.
    So stop hating.

MyVoice Channel I saw it and wish I saw these reviews before buying my ticket. There are some redeeming qualities to the way he presents black-white dialogs on race in the second act, which I rather enjoyed, but it all comes back to the basic premise which is revolting. Paris Milan was right, at the end of the day this is a play that fetishizes the rape of black enslaved women. If it was using these tropes which are a part of mainstream society and depictions of black women to, as the set design purports to do, hold up a mirror to us and get us to truly deeply examine the pathology, I would understand the process and intent, but no, that wasn’t the intent here. I gave it the benefit of the doubt going in, looking for deeper layers that didn’t exist.

I saw it last night and it was disgusting...a celebration of white domination of the afro-hebrews while in a state of slavery to them...

It was written by an African American/Person of Color, though. Does that not make it a commentary from "inside" the community?

@@murphyboyreviews4349 as MyVoice Channel said we don't need to see it. This play is very disrespectful to my ancestors who went through slavery. Slavery was forced upon them, just like how the white slave masters of that day forced themselves upon my people. Then you guys try turn the r*pe of slaves into a "thrilling and erotic" broadway show . You don't see people making Broadway shows like this for jews and the nazis or native Americans and the pilgrims. Whether or not the show is good and whether any of us see it is still disgusting, and please explain "the point" of this show because I see none.
Im not trying to be mean i just don't understand how people can sit and watch this type of stuff.
