This was a fairly easy fix once I realized the bracket and board method was too much work. The wedge instantly held everything together nice and tight. Since you already have a hole there, in my case it was inside the closet, you can purchase a plastic access panel to cover the hole. You can also just patch the drywall if the hole is in plain view.
