All I can say is....if it was being actually made and true to the book, be prepared for a sad tale. Few of the tales of early Middle-earth have happy endings. And the Silmarillion is a never ending tale of one tragedy after another.
Easily ten seasons. Going from the creation of Arda and Eä, to the end of the Second Age. Maybe even parts of the Third Age before The Hobbit. If it actually respected Tolkien’s work. He spent his entire life developing it, and his son protected it. Both of them working together to solidify the maps and timeline of events.

This is a MONUMENTAL TASK. The gravity of expectations is tremendous. I hope that all involved have read this enormity of fiction. The silmarillion is gladly within the top five most difficult reads. Amongst the company of The Bible and P.D. Ouspensky's TERTIUM ORGANUM. This project is greatly anticipated.
First time I’ve read that book, I thought, this will be impossible to make a movie out of that book. What a hard task there going in…. It’s like reading the bible, how to make a movie out of that without missing tale
Once people said the same about the The Lord of the Rings books and look what masterpieces Peter Jackson made out of it. If you have the right people behind a project it could become big.

The Silmarillion is really very difficult to be adopted for the big screen. Maybe a TV series, GoT style, with 5 - 6 seasons, with 10 - 12 hourly episodes per season, so 55 - 65 hours of screentime, but this is still difficult, because the Silmarillion isn't one story, it'll be very difficult for the Writers to manage and connect everything to keep the interest high. And don't forget that the Silmarillion is quite dark, don't expect LoR and Hobbit happy endings etc.
I feel like many of the stories in The Silmarillion are so grand they'd devolve into CGI fireworks. I mean... Feanor fighting several balrogs...? It's a cool scene but the spectacle might just numb you after a while. The parts of the Silmarillion that might work as stories are the more human stories... some of which are mentioned here. I've always wanted to see Tuor's story turn into a movie - one of the few that didn't end in utter tragedy.
When the rights do become available I think a grand way to present stories from the creation thru the First Age would be use storytelling in a "Hall of Fire" type setting which would set the stage for various flashbacks. Tolkien's "Lost Tales" the early writings about the Elves were framed in this manner, It's nothing new but I prefer the shorter episodes (to gruelingly long feature films)
After seeing Amazon obliterate the Second Age canon, I would expect the Tolkien Estate to be very cautious with green-lighting anything related to the First Age.

Because they’re holding out for the Mother of All Paychecks before they let go of that storyline. Actually makes me rather ticked off at the Tolkien Trust that they did such a strangely restrictive agreement for the Rings of Power. Don’t think the Prof would have been okay with that.
And Jackson has done a good job with everything so far. Except for stealing the big giant worms from Dune in Battle of the Five Armies. Why for those things? 🤔
I love the Silmarillion.... hard to get into but once you do, its awesome! You have captured the feel of it so well in both your concept trailers... think it lives better in imagination like this than actually being put to film and the potential disappointment READ PEOPLE READ!! (or at best, listen to an audiobook - recently did LOTR on audiobook... way better than anything the movies delivered!)

Give the rights to the original LOTR crew and a big enough budget and time line and it would be the best version of the Silmarillion there can be. Give the rights to a greedy company like Amazon or WB then it'll become a disaster

We should get a tolkien universe on film like the Marvel universe you could do 18 movies of the 1st and 2nd age. I dream I'll still be here when it's done.
It would be nice if Peter Jackson made more LOTR movies so we can get a back story of how the rings came to be and the corruption they bestowed upon the 9 kings, then the war leading up to the Hobbit franchise.

I read the title and I know it said The Silmarillion, but for some unknown reason I expected to see The Mandalorian show up in the trailer. How is that even possible?
I hope they do proper justice with the screenplay, script, cast and dialogues!! Lord of the Rings was but a casket. This - The Silmarillion - is practically the treasure hoard.. It has the potential to be a much bigger series than all the MCU movies put together..

Nope. I'll just give you a couple of examples, and they are huge and pivotal. He gave Arwen the role that her brother had in a few scenes. When Aragorn picked up the palantir in the book, he wasn't just saving the hobbit he was letting Sauron know that he existed. That caused the dark Lord to panic because he knew that an heir of Isuldur was alive and was powerful enough to wrestle the palantir through sheer Will from his grasp. That is what caused him to panic and attack Gondor. In the movie he grabbed it and fainted like a little girl . That changes the whole story dynamic, and the character of Aragorn. Those are not isolated incidences . I understand not being able to write everything in to a movie that is in a book, but it sucks when you change characters, and add things that were not in the book.

I'm afraid the Silmarillion would not make a good film. It's a history rather than a Novel and any producer would have to change so many things to make it appeal, that it would just ruin everything.
