  • A Thing That I Have Noted About The PS2 For Many Years Now Is How With Each One I Have Seen That Shows The Startup Animation, That The Transitions And Those Four Colored Lights (Which I Believe Resemble The Face Buttons Of The PlayStation Controllers!) And The Animation Speed For The Startup Animation, Being NTSC Against PAL, The Result Is Different, And PAL Consoles Cut The Animation More Off Earlier Than NTSC Consoles, Also The "Sony Computer Entertainment" Logo Fades Out Later And More Slowly On The PAL Consoles, And That Got Me To Deciding To Create A Video Like This To Show It Off, A Comparison Between This Particular Animation By Comparing The NTSC & PAL Modes!
    [Consoles Used]
    SCPH-77003 (Mechapwned To Pretend To Be A DTL-H77001 Unit, NTSC)
    SCPH-70003 (Unmodded PAL Unit, Broken) (See Note 1 For Why)
    [Notes]
    Note 1: The SCPH-70003 That I Have Is Broken As It Does Not Read Any DVD Based Discs Anymore For Some Reason, Meaning PS2 DVD Games & DVD Videos Do Not Work, However, Audio CDs, PS1 Games & PS2 Blue CD Games Will Work On There Fine With Minimal Struggle Depending On The Condition Of The Disc Used (This Unit Can Sometimes Be Picky)

    Something about going through the startup with & without a pause just hits differently

    The spinning lights on the browser screen are tied to the system clock, meaning that difference is likely just due to their clocks not being synchronized. Other than that I don't notice much difference.

      The PAL PS2 takes a bit longer to fade out the startup text and also takes longer to align the spinning stars.

    Surprised no one noticed this before! Also the Red Screen of Death has differences between both regions, specifically the cube that spins throughout.

    PAL has more contrast colours, but a bit slower (because 50 Hz) and has different animation and positions of balls in ring

    • @MiraiXDX
      @MiraiXDX Год назад +4

      Im pretty sure consoles that were made in 2000 and upwards didnt have the 50 hz cause i have a ps2 slim that is pal and it is not slow

    • @D0HERRITT
      @D0HERRITT Год назад +3

      @@MiraiXDX Different consoles are made differently in different regions. I suspect that the frame timings were adjusted so it wouldn't run slightly slower based on your region. It all has to deal with how TVs & radio signals work.

      @sparkwave2 Год назад +13

      The position of the balls isn't different because of the region, no, it's different because of the time setting. The balls are actually a clock and show the current time, so it's understandable that it's not the same.

    the disc reading error is pretty common with the older fat PS2 models. It can be fixed though, if you know how to take the system apart & the disc tray.

      @@FarmYardGaming There's a video on this site somewhere that walks you through how do that. You can probably search up PS2 disc tray repair or something along those lines to find it. As for myself, I haven't really gotten the chance nor time to fix mine.

    I genuinely don't remember my PAL PS2 taking that long to go to the browser & system configuration screen when I started it up with a disk inside. Maybe it's just me. Still, thanks for the memories of my childhood 👍

    As the Japanese flag is on the thumbnail, a bonus comparison should be there for the Japanese one. I don't think it has any difference in terms of animation, but the confirm button is the Circle button rather than the X button. As culturally, circle means ok or confirm in Japan while the cross/X symbol means something is incorrect/cancel.

    It's a bit confusing Sony sell the NTSC-J version to my country (Indonesia) as official release. Even actually this country runs PAL in tv broadcast 🤔 glad that most tv here was multisystem since long time ago. But the effect is there's a small black bar in the left side. NTSC-J is known as japanese version, but the difference from Indonesian NTSC-J is it using English language in the UI as like US version (SCEA).
