I met him in a bank in london today. I'm only 18 but I went crazy when I saw him - he couldn't believe that someone so young watched the young ones bless him =) He was absolutely lovely! x
Ha Ha I love this! I was about 4 or 5 when i Found My Dads tape of the young ones that he'd taped of telly. It got me in a lot of shit at the time!! I was 5ish calling my teachers "Bastards" and "Bottom Berps" etc love the young ones!!!! one of the best shows ever!!!!
I recommend any fans of this have a listen to "Alexei Sayle's Imaginary Sandwich Bar" radio series. He's older and wiser, but he's still got it, and his Sandwich bar is an under-appreciated gem, imo.
"I thought you was dead!?" "Nah, it was just me day off!" "You know KHAHK! for when you are talking on your radio." "If you don't get it right, I kick your head in." "Fascist!" "Si!" Gotta love, Sayle! The man is bloody brilliant! This and Dr. Marten's Boots were his two best moments in the series.
@MrNecropink When I was a kid I hated Alexei Sayle's Young Ones segments. Now that I am older I have leanred to really enjoy his left field sensibilities.
Take a look at the radio pages in Radio Times, for Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra. Won't be long before you find him . Lenin Of The Rovers, Imaginary Sandwich Bar and Strangers On A Train are three series you should look out for! 📻🎙️
None of those 16 people were Benito Mussolini who in fact never actually managed to invade Crete. The Italian invasion of northern Greece was a total fiasco. It was the Germans who invaded Crete with no Italian input
There’s another one with Alexei Sayle as El Duce, and he does an impression of Mussolini, doing an impression of George Formby singing “I was hanging off the lamp post at the corner of my street”.
I find it to be one of those things were you laugh in frustration mostly at the awfulness of the joke, but it's sometimes so funny it really cracks me up. I suppose you need one guy like him.
@kezzieb42 Not all Marxists are necessarly Communists, but I can see what you mean because politics in entertainment in the America will only stretch as far as center-left, considering the dichotomy there is Democratic vs Republic. But alot of radical left, and anti-capitalist/fascist political material from the UK is surprisingly more popular there than people expect. I was a little surprised too.
@555Nato No, it made perfect sense for conscripts to do that, seeing many of them hated Mussolini and Uncle Adolf even more, and just wanted to get home alive somehow. I was merely trying to stir up these strange pro-fascist fellows such as Lictorium who've been posting here and remind them the war is over.
@555Nato It's a bummer, dude. So much loss. I suppose the best we can do is try to create the better world these poor people hoped and died for, it's in our hands now and we at least owe it to them to try, even if it means just having a positive and respectful attitude to life, unlike the arsehole "leaders" of the past.
Unfortunately a lot of my fellow nationals don't have the sense of humour needed to enjoy the sketch, but are loaded with outlandish opinions and prejudices they're dying to express on the subject of this video, which they can't even begin to understand. I apologise on behalf of Italy.
@NotInterestedThanks My Dear old Granddad taught us the Italian army (Esercito Italiano) salute he learned in Libya in '41. You place both hands above your head and yell "Mi arrendo' to the nearest Allied soldier...
@555Nato Let's give these guys a jam-prone Carciano rifle and send them to the russian front in mid-winter, see how they like serving the duce. I detest war but like many I'm strangely fascinated by it, wouldn't miss a BBC war doco for money, and I have respect for those who were conned into serving in wars because they didn't want to be seen as cowards by their generation. Such misguided bravery and selflessness, and for what?
Non credo che gli autori degli interventi pro-duce abbiano capito una parola dello sketch, visto che non è satira politica, il travestimento è un semplice pretesto per far ridere...
@WillsMP92 It might benefit you to do some research before making such remarks. More people have died under Communism than they ever have under Fascism (Nazism is NOT Fascism). There is nothing inherently racist in any way about Fascism. Why is it acceptable for Socialists to express their views and yet you call for Fascists to be silenced? Surely that's Fascism in itself.
I met him in a bank in london today. I'm only 18 but I went crazy when I saw him - he couldn't believe that someone so young watched the young ones bless him =) He was absolutely lovely! x
