    This helped me so much! I watched it because I'm making Yamato from One Piece. I completely didn't realise that skirt hakama existed, but your discussion of it at the beginning made me realise that Yamato's pants.... are not pants. I would've been so annoyed if I made them before I realised. Thank you!

    Now that is an awesome hakama, I've never sown before 😁 but I feel motivated in doing this! Also, thanks for using the correct names for the Hakama.

    I've recently looked at dying fabric and found one brand that offers a "dye ball" which you put in the washing machine with your fabric. It seems a lot easier to do.
    Note: you have to "wash" the fabric twice, first with the dye and second to wash away remnants of the dye and then rinse the machine once for good measure.

    What pattern did you use? I know you modified the pattern slightly, do you have notes on the modification?

    • @Kartsie
      @Kartsie  3 года назад +3

      I did not use a pattern but I did follow along with a website that I have linked in the description. You can use the website to figure out the measurements you are using. It is basically a bunch of rectangles. The length is you waist down to your ankles. The most difficult part will be pleating the garment. Panel width is up to how many panels you want in the Hakama. I did my Himo length based on how much fabric I had. Hope that helps.

    I’m making a Hakama and this is very helpful! When you do the edge stitch to the pleats are you just doing the stitch on the edge of the fold or is it a top stitch that goes through all layers of fabric? Thanks❤

    I also want to sew hakama, can you please tell me about how big your fabric was? Would be really kind :)

    • @Kartsie
      @Kartsie  3 года назад +3

      My fabric I used was 125.5 inches long and about 53 inches wide. If you are using a Cotton based fabric remember to pre-wash for initial shrinkage. There is also a blog post in the description that you can use to reference determining how much fabric you need for yourself and a friend of mine Billy Matsunaga recently posted a video on making traditional hakama. Have fun!

    • @Kartsie
      @Kartsie  3 года назад +2

      After a while you get faster at tying it. But it's fairly fast to undo. I tie mine the kendo martial art style but there r more elaborate ways to tie hakama and those are more complicated.

    • @killiansirishbeer
      @killiansirishbeer 3 года назад

      @@Kartsie so true ! I have, so far, made one first attempt (it's now undone to remake the waistband and pleats), on accurate hakama and one very lightweight with a made up/simplified waistband/belt to easily take it off/put it on.

    • @killiansirishbeer
      @killiansirishbeer 3 года назад

      What I mean with my first comment is that if you like wearing them you learn to work the belts, just don't rush ! What's worst than taking a bit longer in the washroom is needing to go back to fix the belt because you didn't fasten them right the first time. Coming from someone who undid and redid my hakama in my friends living room while speaking to her because ... Well she's my friend and I couldn't be bothered to go back to the washroom to do it 😂
