The weirdest crossover in the history of crossovers
And i'm not complaining
"Become the knight and Steel Panther in the same room??"
Dante Estevez “Gone Wrong, Gone Sexual”
@@conormurphy4328 I laugh too hard at that and everyone in my class heard me
It's weird that Satchel dressed up as the character but didn't do the interview in character.
Odds are he was extremely high. Extremely.
Yeah he actually took a lot more seriously than his usual interviews. I think it's maybe a sign of respect to an aspiring musician. He may have advice that could be useful.
i like seeing him in character, but it was kinda cool seeing him being more serious
I rarely if ever see him out of character. Just nice to hear him serious and passionate about people that have influenced him.
Sgt. Rock none of them actually do drugs
This guy looks like a dad who's been an accountant for 15 years suddenly put on a wig and started a hair metal band :D :D Very interesting interview tho
He does look like that. Wait.....
Well, you're not wrong about the wig, and hair metal part lol
He's been in a successful hair metal band for 25 plus years.
so cool of paul stanley to accept this interview from a youtuber
Lmao
Nice
Spot on
@Hugh G. Fallacy I doubt he feels the same.
TheBull14597 disrespectful
This is the least "Satchel" interview I've ever seen
Who doesnt love Satchel and Steel Panther?? Damn even a critic like Corey Taylor loves them!
Corey wrote Community Property didn't he?
Sang it live but helped with death to all but metal in the record
Elysian Tattoo Travel never even heard one of their songs
Man, you are really the first interviewer, who catches the real Russ Parrish!!!
I've never seen satchel this serious in an interview. 😂
my exact thoughts
Wow this guy has so much insight, I'm a bass player but what he says about music and playing an instrument applies to all musicians.
bass is an instrument?
Bass gang unite
All hail the power of the bass
I’m the trout player...
This is actually so cool. Glam head and prog head hang out and have fun talking.
Russ does a lot more than steel panther.
Satchel is so positive. He seems to be a genuinely happy dude.
17:54 Mike taking a big sip to build up the courage to give his Gilmour opinion
He really needs it
Satchel: “smash.”
Mike’s subscribers: “uh oh...”
Satchel: compliments David Gilmour
Mike: *Drains whisky glass
*whiskey bottle
*whiskey jug
*whiskey barrel
*whiskey distillery
*Tennessee
I don't think Steel Panther get the love or appreciation they deserve. True they are a parody band but they have are talented guys and go for it live plus write their own songs. The personalities the band adopts is all for fun, they don't take it seriously, the only people that do are the ones that have a problem with. Satchel is by far my favourite member and in my opinion the true frontman of the band. He's a great guitar player and he truly embraces his character. I fucking love it. 🤘
Part of what sells their act is how proficient they all are at their instruments
@@BecomeTheKnight yeah they really are, just a shame that some people can't see past the parody concept. It's the big downfall of the metal community, all the elitism and gatekeeping. Just because you get it doesn't mean it's legit.
I've seen them live (and in a venue with great acoustics) and they sounded like the record, just spot on, one of the best performances I've seen
As somebody who's never listened to them, what would be some songs you recommend to get into them?
@@tacoman2147 check out death to all but metal and party like it's....
David Gilmour is a guitar god. Satchel summed it up perfectly when he said that his guitar writing is like a vocal melody. It's simple on the surface but loaded with so much emotion that oozes through each note, each bend, and each slide. It's the perfect combination of simplicity, precision, and soul, and it perfectly fits each song.
*Mike intesly sips on his whiskey glass again*
Cody Null “To each their own” is such a misunderstood pearl. I can’t stand *anything* punk, but for some people it’s the answer. I can listen to Queen and ELO all day, but for many it’s insufferably pompous. I’m good with that. Tribalism in music fandom is beyond stupid. Just enjoy the journey. And the Journey, if that’s your thing.
Sgt. Rock *Mike the music snob has entered the chat*
There are no gods. But I enjoy Gilmour's style.
I love how genuine Satchel is in this! Not that I don’t love him when he’s not too serious, but this is really refreshing and I feel we really get to know what he’s like.
This has to be THE best Satchel interview I've seen. I love his humor, but this is the first time I've seen him get a bit serious in an interview. Wonderful dude and player.
This video will go down in history as the interview with satchel out of character
"Next up, Kurt Cobain" 21:03
*Uh oh*
I am watching this instead of online class
Dante Estevez I’m watching it during
I feel bad for you,
In Saudi Arabia the minister of education stopped school right when the pandemic started and made every student in the country pass school with the grades of the previous year
Now I’m playing guitar 24/7
Lmao same
Same!
lol same
Satchel looks like a middle aged mom with those glasses. I fucking love him.
Nice to see you getting some more interviews Mike. While I'm not a steel panther fan, it is always nice to see the perspective of performing musicians and how they are reacting to the world going to hell. Keep up the great content man!
When Satchel said "Rock On!" with Mike that warmed my heart. Steel Panther \m/
Epic crossover nobody saw coming.
I actually met Satchel back in '92. He showed up at my grandma's remembrance ceremony (event before the funeral). Pretty cool dude, was a little more clear minded than he is now. Long story short, he ended up taking a shot of antifreeze while stuck on the church's roof with his shirt torn up, while I was locked in an '87 Camaro without any pants. I think that's what fried his brain. Yea, good times.
Super glad you finally got to interview 80s Steve Vai
Seeing Satchel not play his character is nice change
I love how excited Satchel is talking about music. It’s awesome that the passion is still there all these years later! I can see why he did this informal interview with mike
So weird watching Satchel having a serious conversation, fucking loved it
Good to hear that satchel also loves Pantera
Not sure how many know what a good musician Satchel is...good friends with Paul Gilbert, played in a Racer X offshoot band with Jeff Martin and Paul Gilbert. Lived in Gilbert's house and house sat for him when he toured with Mr Big. Played in bands with Jeff Pilsson from Dokken and Rob Halford from Judas Priest...seriously good guitarist and muso.
Take a shot everytime Mike touches his nose
When I read this comment I literally saw mike touch his nose right after I read it
I'd be ded
Or says totally
Oh, Satchel is such nice and chill out dude! This was a fun interview, although I was bracing myself when the Doors came up. :D
The crossover we needed but didnt deserve🖖
George Lynch is the reason why I play guitar. Back in 1985 I was 2 years old, I stood on a stool with my toy guitar watching MTV and jamming to Dokken. I don’t remember back that far, but my mom has told me so many stories from when I was younger. And how I watched MTV in stead of cartoons, and made my own mix tapes at 3 years old. I was obsessed with rock n roll. Still am
Dave Mustaine and Ariana Grande playing online tetris coming next
I got one of his picks in the soundwave concert in brisbane Australia. I gave it to my best friend for his birthday cos steel panther is his favourite band.
Satchel is so friendly and engaged. I hope all Steel Panther fans support them and buy a ticket for June 7th. They always put on a truly great show.
So rare to hear Russ talk not in character!! This was a pleasure to watch
Is it me, or does Satchel look like a teacher with glasses on? Lol
Definitely
Satchel has the CUTEST laugh!!! You almost never hear him laugh like that in other interviews when he’s really in character but his laugh is adorable 😭
Awesome! I wasn’t expecting this to pop up! Satchel is fucking awesome.
Great stuff, Mike.🤘🏼
What a humble dude. He is by far one of the best technical guitar players around but makes it sound like he is just a regular player. I mean he actually filled in for paul Gilbert when he was a teenager.
Awesome interview I love seeing any member of Steel Panther being serious just because it's rare to see, a lot of it is joking around and stuff which is still great. Satchel was passionate talking about all these guys that influenced his journey, and I just think that's cool.
smash or pass starts at 16:30 :)
My Respect for Satchel just keeps growing up the more I listen to his work and his words. This interview has added more to it. Man I'm glad I finally discovered Steel Panther. Satchel you fuckin' rock my bro!
Great interview. Satchel is so right. What matters first and foremost is how the guitarist is serving the song and this is what SO many guitarists fail to understand. And for the record, Gilmour rules. Guarantee Mike could not compose solos nearly as memorable and Sir David (is he a Sir? I have no idea)
Go check out Psychostick's livestreams from the last nine weeks. They're doing doing one today at 4pm central. They do a pretty good job.
Great vid mike.Satchel is such a chilled out dude watching this.
now that's quality content right there.
This is the best anime cross-over ever.
Summer vacation here I come
18:54 That Roger Waters roast killed me, and that's a good point for one of the reasons I love Gilmore. He fits the band perfectly for what their are trying to do
21:53 minute of silence for those of us who thought playing fast would bring all chicks
And still can't even play fast
You should do a rock podcast this was super interesting and I enjoyed the whole thing. Rock on mike 🤘🏼
omf such a long interview, i have a lot to watch then . gonna bring the popcorn
Something I didn’t know I wanted but now I need
Mike, you should check out Satchel's previous band, War and Peace. It has Dokken/Foreigner bassist Jeff Pilson as well.
@Solange Completely underrated.
Steel Panther fucking rocks! They are also hilarious. Their concerts generate laughs for sure along with enjoying the music
Satchel is incredible, I’ve looked up to Steel Panther musically since around 2010 when I started playing bass. Their music is amazing, and they definitely don’t get the credit they deserve being a comedy band
Im just trying to picture lexxi fox greening out 😂😂 best interview of satchel so far 🤘🏽
I had no idea how much I needed this video
Cheap Paul Stanley and Discount version John petruchi? Hell yeah!
Awesome interview, awesome satchel, nice
RUclips didnt give me a notification so I didnt see this I'm lowkey glad bc I can watch it now
Your lack of notifications is in the majority, man. YT has been fucking me pretty hard and they aren't telling me why
Don't you guys just love Rick Beato's new video on Nirviana? Stating that Kurt's genius was intrinsic. "His ear led him to those notes." Awesome!
Man, Satchell is just one of the coolest dudes ever. Not too huge into Steel Panther (mind you, have only heard a handful of there stuff) but he’s such a funny down to earth dude
Satchel is awesome great video!!
Loved the Pantera in Amsterdam story 😂 Dimebag is the GOAT!
Steel panther needs their own talk show. Satchel is so hilarious 🤣
I loved this interview it was so chill please get him on again ASAP :)
Love to sit down with you satch you're the best out there . Kudos for getting him. My favorite record is balls out !
Satchel kinda sounds like Jonah Hill.
A little bit
Great interview :) Thank you! See you June 7th :-* Love from Germany
Also, on that note, I want to hear Steel Panther music AND Crusade music. :)
bro is dressed all hair metal but has his glasses on 😂
I'm pretty sure Satchel used to use a George Lynch Signature Guitar and still has it
George Lynch’s solo in Heaven Sent from Japan 1988 “Beast from the East” still gives me chills.
This is awesome!!
Holy shit, a Satchel interview out of character.
I hope to see Tom Monda on here one of these days. First Petrucci and now Satchel.
Me too, hopefully one day
Also had Baard Kolstad from Leprous too. Wouldn’t be surprised if Mike got Misha Mansoor or Mikael Akerfeldt on here someday too.
That would be the dream.
Tom Monda is the greatest guitarist no one's ever heard of.
What about Richard Henshall coming on to the channel?
How did you get a interview with Russ? Satchel must have been busy!!!!! The best interview ive seen with him yet
Take a shot everytime Mike wipes off sweat from his face
Satchel looks like a math teacher at a "go as you like" party, with his specs on
Didn't want this to end...
Dimebags the GOAT for metal players
Steel panther is the most underrated band ever in terms of skill and shit
Did not expect this crossover
I bought the live stream and a shirt. I’m looking forward to it.
This was awsome
How can you pass on Gilmour? The solo on Comfortably Numb is the most emotional solo I’ve ever heard.
Can't deny comfortably numb is excellent
this game is too darn appropriate for satchel cuz he likes this kind of stuff
Aww crap I got smash for every choice
SHOCKER
\
/
Didn't expect Dokken's George Lynche on the list, very cool. I also agree with over the mountain fantastic song, underated af.
Satchel seems like a really insightful dude. Maybe ill never be a Vai or a Guthrie but I can be my best Wally Bones.
wow very inventive interview, thank u :)
Satchel? isn't that Link from GMM? ;)
Few minutes in, awesome video already Mike!
Anyone else come for a laugh expecting Satchel in character and just stayed for the great interview?
Speaking as a mediocre music critic myself, I can't imagine a world where I would hate Frank Zappa or Steel Panther. Rock on Satchel, rock the FUCK on
