seviren s well back then they didn't worry about genres and labels and it was pretty much metal or not metal to them back then. Trash is what influenced these bands so it would make sense.
He probably said Thrash Metal because it would make more sense to the mainstream audience, i mean how many people would know what the fuck he was talking about if he called it Grindcore?
Exactly The Grindcore term was around since the late 80s, but how many people were really using it? In the mid 90s, if you tell somebody that you listen to Thrash Metal or Death Metal, you have a good idea of what it :::might::: sound like. The same would be true if you walked into a record store and asked for either of the two genres. The one thing that the internet has caused is the creation of sub-sub-sub-genres that nobody gives a fuck about. I'm not saying that's the case with Grindcore, but the origins do come from hardcore punk, thrash, and/or death metal. Even the sub-genres of punk are guilty of this. (sorry for the side rant)
hyperdsg I think you're misunderstanding what I said. Re-read it and you'll see that I'm referring to the term Grindcore, not how long Napalm Death has been around. ;-)
Wolfgang Von Poserkila Hold up there a minute, the "mainstream" at this point thought nothing about metal at all. They probably thought Metallica were the heaviest grunge band, metal was GnR and thrash or death metal was Pantera or Sepultura heavy. Even metalheads don't define subgenres properly until after the fact. Lost count of how many old articles list "Reign in Blood" as one of the first Death Metal albums. You're right though, would've made more sense to me at the time. Took me forever to be able to hear the difference between brutal death and grindcore.
For those who argue about this being called 'thrash metal' It's because, back at that time (I supose this video recording came from the mid to late-80s, maybe early 90s) it was very common to miscall music genres, especially from the ones who came from the underground, actually, a lot of people who were into that kind of stuff didn't really knew how to call them, grindcore was often labeled as hardcore, fastcore, thrashcore, and others, and death metal was commonly know as just thrash metal (sometimes they even called it grindcore too). Remember that internet wasn't available and the only way to know about this names was by mouth, so it wasn't rare to hear someone tagging Cannibal Corpse as 'thrash metal' or someone tagging Sodom as 'death metal'. I'm sure that Jim knew about this but he called it 'thrash metal' so the audience could understand the joke by using a term that they could familiarize with (since thrash was at his peak by that time).
I did read the comment. And I certainly agree! Let alone, we had just witnessed the birth of Metalcore! Spread doom, spread doom everywhere! Don't forget to play the mods!!!

***** Very true. Thrash was used for everything from Anthrax to Metallica to Kreator to Sodom to Pantera, even though now we would probably be using different sub-sub-sub-genre terms for each one of them - though really, who actually gives a crap? Those were the days when speed and thrash were considered different styles, for crying out loud, and Pantera was called "power-groove metal"! I'm not kidding, I was there :)
He probably said "thrash" just so the audience of this mainstream talkshow would understand what he meant. I've spoken to Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse about him and apparently it is true that he requested they be in the movie and even specifically asked for Hammer Smashed Face to be played. He spent a lot of time on set hanging out with them and kept in touch for a year or two afterwards. Also Cameron Diaz was in the front row at one of their shows when some celebrity asked them to play a Hollywood party.

Gaurav Cz Barnes was good in CC, his material with SFU was awful imo, so yes as non-serious as Jim Carrey is a vocalist, his vocals are automatically better.

How funny. Because the first time I heard Napalm Death, and Mike (Barney) Greenway on vocals, it was like shock and awe, I couldn't belive there was somebody singing like this. Of course I basically said the same thing when I heard Lemmy of Motorhead sing. The stuff kinda grew on me
haha how funny that Jim Carrey wonders about death metal bands slowing down and singing beautiful songs lol , Paradise Lost went through that transition lol
metalmusician6798 True, but given when this was recorded and the fact that it was very new to many people, outsiders likely weren't familiar with the terms at first~.

Damn, he was telling the truth, Barney DID a "duet", with Volbeat :)
Well, they haven't slowed down yet!
And true enough there’s a duet with Volbeat, “Evelyn”! Love that tune!
"This guy's gonna wanna slow down and do some duets"
Mark Greenway's done a fair few duets, the last one he did was with Volbeat where he growled.
How funny. Because the first time I heard Napalm Death, and Mike (Barney) Greenway on vocals,
it was like shock and awe, I couldn't belive there was somebody singing like this. Of course I basically
said the same thing when I heard Lemmy of Motorhead sing. The stuff kinda grew on me
Napalm Death is still killing it!
Ya but not like they were in the 80's, u think?
Edward Pignataro IV I think they just got better over time.
John Dow
I always was way into the drumming with Mick Harris.
Edward Pignataro IV no doubt but they are still good. If you have not been listening to their later stuff you have been missing out.
0:14 When a metalhead drinks from a keg and other metalheads cheer him on.
hey Jim napalm death we're playing last weekend in their hometown Birmingham still rocking
he would've made a great vocalist
Actually Jim was looking into the future: Barny Greenday did duet with Volbeat
Greenway, not Green Day!
I love Jim Carrey, cant get enough of him☺
Anyone seen Ace Ventura?
his vocals are actually pretty sick lmao
haha how funny that Jim Carrey wonders about death metal bands slowing down and singing beautiful songs lol , Paradise Lost went through that transition lol
"Thrash metal music."
*starts doing Death Metal growls*
"Napalm Death"
Bruh…
Well actually, at this time, they weren't Death Metal either.
Bruh.
That's the joke. They are neither Thrash or Death; they're Grindcore.
metalmusician6798 True, but given when this was recorded and the fact that it was very new to many people, outsiders likely weren't familiar with the terms at first~.
metalmusician6798 just names bro lol.
Napalm death are deathgrind, get your shit together. And they're closer to death than grind.
At 1:06 , I love how he, by running his hand thru hair, switches from "casual waiting for the laughter to stop" to "unleash the mad genius of panto"...
Jimmy Carey listens to Napalm Death? YESSSSSSS.
